Mezidruhové interakce v mokřadním společenstvu v závislosti na vodním režimu: dlouhodobý test stress-gradient hypotézy / Interspecific interactions in wetland communities in dependence on water regime: long-term test of stress-gradient hypothesis

The Stress-gradient hypothesis predicates a change of interspecies relations from negative to positive according to the stress gradient. The basic assumption is that the presence of one species (the facilitator) makes the growth of other species easier. In this study was determined based on the 5years experiment, whether the interspecies interactions (i.e. the importance of facilitation and competition) changes according to the hydrological conditions. Three wetland species (Calamagrostis canescens, Carex elongata and Deschampsia cespitosa) were planted in experimental pots with the presence and absence of the dominant species (Carex elata). The hydrological gradient (= the stress gradient) was simulated by three types of hydrological conditions: dry, fluctuating and wet. The success of the species within the specific conditions was correlated with the fitness-related characteristics of the plants including the biomass, the number of ramets and the height of the plants. Following hypotheses were tested: i) at a low intensity of stress (with the wet treatment), the C. elata represents a competitor for other species. On the other hand, at a high intensity of stress (with the dry treatment), the C. elata represents a facilitator, making it easier to the other coexisting species to grow. This presumption was confirmed only with the D. cespitosa, which was more successful under dry treatment with the presence of a dominant species, which facilitated it. With the other two species the change of interspecific relations was not observed and the relationships remained negative. Furthermore the results showed, that in the dry treatment with the presence of a dominant species, there was a lower intensity of competition among the coexisting species. The experiment showed, that the interactions of particular species with dominant species can vary according to the stress gradient. The hydrological gradient also influences the character and intensity of interactions among the species.

The aim of this thesis is to describe the most frequent models describing population dynamics and then to perform some numerical experiments in the MATLAB environment. These simulations should validate our theoretical results. The models are sorted from the basic models to the most complicated and are divided into the models which describe dynamics of one population and models of coexistence of two biological species. The master's thesis icludes also a program for drawing graphs and trajectories of solutions of models described in this thesis including a description of this MATLAB program.

Ekologické specializace ptáků na základě prostorových patrností v koexistenci / Ecological specializations of birds based on spatial co-existence patterns

Ecological specialization based on co-existence patterns is new methodology used for niche breadth measurement using co-existing community with occupancy data. It results in generalist-specialist continuum according to value of speciali- zation index. The aim of this thesis was testing index stability at spatial and tem- poral scale, compare this specialization index with other specialization indices and study changes in specialization with time changes in occupancy. Specialization was quantified using data of breeding birds atlases in the Czech Republic and Europe using two selected indices Theta and Simpson. Methodology seems to be sensitive to spatial scale. Instability appears at small scale for birds, stability and correlation between indices increase with gre- ater scale. Problems with using point counts corresponds to their unsuitability encompass birds' habitats, especially for water dependent birds. Correlations be- tween different time periods are stronger at greater spatial scale. Specialization based on co-existence patterns correlates with specialization according to experts' opinions. Results from comparing changes in specialization with changes in occu- pancy suggest, that most of species tend to leave more diverse sites with occupancy decline.

Mixed-ploidy populations, consisting of multiple cytotypes, are an optimal system for studying genome doubling consequences in plants. The role of frequency dependent selection, known as minority cytotype exclusion principle, is very important in them, but there are many factors limiting this selection. In my thesis, I evaluate the changes in cytotype frequencies and pattern in permanent plots in natural mixed-ploidy populations of three plant species - Butomus umbellatus, Knautia serpentinicola and Tripleurospermum inodorum and I also experimentally analyze partial aspects of frequency dependent selection towards minority cytotype in artificially established mixed-ploidy arrays of two plant species - Arabidopsis arenosa and Tripleurospermum inodorum. Varied changes in frequencies of minority cytotype ware revealed in permanent plots. Usually there was decrease, but in two plots there was increase in minority cytotype frequency and in one case it became dominant. Observed changes depend on initial frequencies of minority cytotype in populations, biological properties of species and particular environment of permanent plot. In the present study, I dealt with morphological, cytological, and ecological research on a rare Central-European species Spergularia echinosperma and its comparison with a similar weedy species S. rubra. Existence of two cytotypes of S. echinosperma significantly differing in their morphology was revealed, as well as distinct morphological differences between the two species were found. Moreover, the analyses revealed one possibly hybridogenous population. In addition, both the species and the cytotypes were also proven to display different germination behavior, which I correlate with their individual ecological adaptations.

Master's thesis The Signal Processing in ZigBee System is focused on properties of Physical Layer of ZigBee (standard IEEE 802.15.4 - 2003). The work consists of three parts. The first part contains common view on using and properties of ZigBee. The next part focuses on the Medium Access Control Layer and in detail on the Physical Layer. There described signal processing in the Physical Layer in individual radio bands. The last part of the project contains the process of modeling in the MATLAB for both models of system ZigBee (bands 868/915 MHz and 2450 MHz). The last part of thesis deals with the simulations of BER depending on Carrier-to-Noise Ratio. Also examined the coexistence of systems operating in the same or a nearby frequency band. Based on the results of simulations there are given recommendations for the use of the ZigBee system in minimizing BER.

Contact zones of cytotypes harbour a unique opportunity to study the dynamics and evolution of mixed-ploidy systems. Butomus umbellatus (flowering rush) is one of a few species in which diploid and triploid cytotype is present in nature. The first known mixed-ploidy populations of B. umbellatus were discovered in south-eastern Slovakia during the previous studies. Common occurrence of the species in an area with substantially natural dynamics of wetland ecosystems represents a unique model system for unbiased comparisons of traits and genetic diversity between diploid and triploid individuals along with their dispersal capabilities on a landscape level. The main aim of of this thesis is to uncover the truth behind evolutionary processes that are taking place in the contact zone of diploid and triplioid cytotype of B. umbellatus in south-eastern Slovakia. Using flow cytometry and molecular methods (microsatellites) we will test whether this is a primary or secondary contact zone and assess the level of genetic variability between individuals and populations of both cytotypes. This diploma thesis is based on the experiment which took 5 years. In 52 plastic containers were planted four species wetland plants; two species of grasses (Calamagrostis canescens and Deschampsia cespitosa) and two species of sedges (Carex elata and Carex elongata). Three types of water regime were set up with: high, low and fluctuating water level, where the high and low level of water took turns after one year. One year before the data collection the strongest competitor Carex elata was cut out. For the evaluation of the role of water level (environmental stress) and removal of the dominant (competition) we selected two functional trait indicators: specific leaf area (SLA) and leaf dry matter content (LDMC). SLA is an indicator of resource strategies, competitiveness and efficiency of light photosynthesis. Species with high SLA are usually better competitors for light, but tolerate harder the environmental stress. LDMC reflects a plants investment in persistent leaf structures and therefore in nutrient retention. A significant effect of water regime on LDMC was observed in the species Deschampsia cespitosa that had higher average values of LDMC in dry water regime, which is indicating higher investment into persistent leaf structures. And the effect of the dominant removal on SLA, where the values of SLA in the containers without removed dominant were higher. Increased SLA implies increased intensity of competition for light. My diploma thesis supported that specific leaf area and leafdry matter content are important functional indicators different types of stress conditions in wetland communities.

This thesis is aimed at learning selected aspects of the private health insurance system in OECD countries and its co-existence side by side with the public health insurance. Introductory chapters describe theoretic starting points and principles of functioning of the health insurance system in harmony with existing models of the healthcare policy. The analytical part of the thesis, using qualitative methods of investigation, deals with the development and the current state of the system of the health insurance in the Czech Republic from 1989 and characterizes briefly major problems being encountered and solved. Furthermore, the thesis maps trends of the health insurance in selected OECD countries, showing issues within the structure of healthcare system expenses in countries followed and their influence on the system of the health insurance. The thesis is also informing about present problems on the private health insurance market in OECD countries precisely as described in a study made by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. The final chapter compares the mentioned health insurance systems from the point of view of co-payment and co-existence.
