The purpose of this project was to find out how reading is affected, and not affected, by different elements on a start page. The site I was studied belongs to the magazine Fitness Magazine, and the current site has a problem. The editorial texts and articles don’t reach out to the visitors. The goal was to make a proposal for a new first page of the web site that highlights the texts and the reading.With the help of interviews, user testing and textual analysis, I studied if the texts were in itself that caused the problem or if it was the design. I found that it was a combination of text and design that caused the problems. The results showed that some elements of a website is needed to help the reader in the right direction while some elements was more noise that destroyed communication. The noise consisted of color combinations that fooled the brain, a logo that did not appear right, wrongly-placed ads, articles that were not suited for the web and a menu that was not located and designed to benefit the reading. I have made a design in which I tried to remove the noise to make the information more readable to visitors. / Syftet med mitt examensarbete var att titta på hur läsningen påverkas och inte påverkas av olika element på en webbplats förstasida. Webbplatsen jag studerade tillhör tidningen Fitness Magazine och den nuvarande webbplatsen har ett problem. De redaktionella texterna når inte ut till besökarna. Målet var att jag sedan skulle gestalta ett förslag på en ny förstasida på webbplatsen som lyfter fram texterna.Med hjälp av intervju, användartest och textanalyser studerade jag om det var texterna i sig som orsakade problemet eller designen. Jag kom fram till att det var en kombination av texterna och designen som orsakade problemen. I arbetet kom jag fram till att vissa element på en webbplats behövs för att hjälpa läsningen i rätt riktning medan andra element mer blev brus som förstörde kommunikationen. Bruset bestod bland annat av färgkombinationer som lurade hjärnan, en logotyp som inte syntes, felplacerade annonser, artiklar som inte var anpassade för webb och en meny som inte var placerad och utformad till läsningens fördel. Jag har gjort en gestaltning där jag försökt ta bort bruset för att göra informationen mer framkomlig till besökarna.
