Development in Lacuna and Littorina (Mesogastropoda: Littorinacea) from California with emphasis on egg masses, egg capsules and larvae

Murray, Talbot E., Jr. 01 January 1973 (has links) (PDF)
In the present study, characteristics of egg masses and egg capsules of the four most abundant California littorinaceans (Lacuna marmorata, L. unifasciata; Littorina planaxis, and L. scutulata) are described. Development within the egg capsule at ambient water temperature is followed to hatching and early weligers are described to facilitate their separation from the plankton.

Spring Food Habits of Corydalus Cornutus L. in the Brazos River, Texas

Friday, Gary P. 08 1900 (has links)
The objective of this study was to determine the kinds and numbers of food organisms consumed by Corydalus cornutus, and to investigate its periodicity of feeding during the spring months in the Brazos River, Palo Pinto County, Texas. A total of 468 larvae were collected at two-week intervals from February 29 to May 14, 1971. Larvae were taken at opportunity during three periods of the day, 6am.-12pm., 12pm.-6pm., and 6pm.-12am. A total of 23 different food items was observed in the 121 stomachs containing food. An expedient method of dissection of the digestive tract is included.

Axenic Culture of House-Fly Larvae and the Influence of Stored Nutrients on Adult Dietary Requirements for Survival and Reproduction

Taylor, Grace Catherine 05 1900 (has links)
Larvae of the house fly, Musca domestica L. , were reared axenically on semi-synthetic media and their performance both as larvae and as adults was assessed in comparison to that of flies reared on an undefined wheat-bran medium. Three components of a standard sterile casein-base medium, i.e., sodium oleate, RNA and cholesterol, were assessed as to their effects on both the larval and adult stages. All improved larval growth, with cholesterol being essential. It has been substantiated that specific larval nutrient reserves were transferred to the adult. Larval nutrition influenced fecundity through its effect on adult survival and vigour, number of eggs developed, and the adult hormonal system. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Larval debridement therapy: vascular wound management

Tweedle, B., Vig, S., Vowden, Kath, Tyrer, J. January 2014 (has links)
No / Lower limb ulcers (LLU) are a common manifestation of long-standing vascular disease and may be exacerbated by trauma or dependency. Ulcers can be grouped according to the underlying aetiology with approximately 76% due to venous disease, 22% due to arterial and 5% occurring as a complication of diabetes. In up to 20% of patients there is some crossover where a mixed picture is present. / BioMonde
