It becomes the reference in the studies of different areas and taking into account that the theme does not finishes itself. We propose, in this essay, some reflections about the discursive functioning of the question in Mafalda, taking as its theoretic perspective the Pêcheux’s Discourse Analysis, as it has been worked in Brazil. For such, we mobilize some theoretical concepts, like reading in a discursive perspective, the silence, the fault and the humor as excess in a sense production. Furthermore, it should be noted, that concerning the syncretic text, in which the protagonist is a young girl, we also mobilize concepts referred to image and gender. Thus, with the purpose to contribute with discourse studies, we reflect about a file, formed by ten comic strips, whose observation lead us to two predominant discursive formations, named as anticapitalistic discursive formation and sexist discursive formation. The analysis points out socio-ideological and imaginary determinations involved in Mafalda’s humor constructions. It is from the material linguistic dimension and imaginary. / Há pouco mais de cinquenta anos, nasce, na Argentina, a personagem que problematizaria uma série de questões de cunho social e político. Ao tornar-se referência a estudos sob o olhar de diferentes áreas e sabendo, pois, que o tema não se esgota, proponho, neste trabalho, algumas reflexões sobre o funcionamento discursivo da interrogação em Mafalda, na perspectiva da Análise do Discurso pecheuxtiana, tal qual vem sendo trabalhada no Brasil. Para tal, mobilizamos alguns conceitos teóricos, entre os quais, destacamos: a leitura na perspectiva discursiva, o silêncio, a falta e o humor na produção de sentidos. Além disso, convém destacar que, ao tratar de textos sincréticos, em que figuram como protagonista uma menina, também mobilizamos conceitos referentes à imagem e ao gênero. Desse modo, com o propósito de contribuir para os estudos do discurso, refletimos sobre um arquivo formado por dez tirinhas, cuja observação leva-nos a duas formações discursivas predominantes, designadas, respectivamente, como formação discursiva anticapitalista e formação discursiva sexista. A análise assinala determinações sócioideológicas e imaginárias envolvidas na construção do humor em Mafalda, a partir da dimensão material linguística e imagética.
