O ouriço do mar Lytechinus variegatus é um dos organismos mais utilizado de toxicidade da água, no entanto, ao longo da costa nordestina as populações encontram-se reduzidas e o desenvolvimento de um modelo biológico sensível para a avaliação ecotoxicológica da água faz-se necessário. O teste crônico com náuplios de Tisbe biminiensis consiste na exposição dos náuplios durante 48h ou até que 50% dos indivíduos do controle sejam copepoditos. As amostras ambientais utilizadas nos testes foram coletas no Complexo Estuarino de Suape em 5 diferentes pontos . Já para os testes com sedimentos com a finalidade de observar se há diferença entre os copépodos T. biminiensis e Nitokra sp quando expostas aos mesmos sedimentos, foram escolhidos 3 locais com toxicidade anteriormente comprovada, são eles: os Complexos estuarinos de Santos e São Vicente (Alemoa, Cosipa/Usiminas, Marina e Mariana), Suape e Parque dos Manguezais (Ilha de Deus).. De modo geral os náuplios de T. biminiensis demonstraram o mesmo padrão de resposta dos ouriços e em algumas ocasiões uma maior sensibilidade. Já para os testes com sedimento também foi observado quem os copépodos apresentam padrão de sensibilidade semelhante e em alguns experimentos Nitokra sp demonstrou maior sensibilidade ao sedimento exposto. Logo, náuplios do copépodo T. biminiensis podem ser utilizados com sucesso na avaliação da toxicidade de amostras ambientais de água do mar/estuarinas. E testes com os copépodos T. biminiensis e Nitokra sp mostram um padrão de sensibilidade relativamente semelhante
