This diploma thesis deals with the interaction of male members of the fitness culture with content referring to this topic on social media. The diploma thesis examines the connections between the monitored content, the desire to build masculinity, the satisfaction of men with their own body, or the idea of an ideal male body. The aim of this thesis is to answer the questions of how men interpret media content, which suppose to inspire the creation of healthy lifestyle habits, and whether, or how, this content contributes to their approach to the fitness culture. Research shows that men attribute a significant influence to social media on their concept of fitness as a lifestyle. These participants talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the content of fitspiration, which affect the perception of their own body and mental well-being. Although, social media contributions motivate them to improve themselves and achieve better results, images of masculinity on social media force them to focus on the aesthetics of the body, the amount of muscles rather than on the quality of life, health and other benefits from the regular physical activity.

Kognitivní predispozice dané mírou maskulinity a femininity mozku / Cognitive predispositions affected by degree of brain masculinity and femininity

PIXA, David January 2008 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with gender-related differences of cognitive predispositions. Findings could be utilized predominantly in human resource management, pedagogy and psychology. The research was proceeded as a case study of 45 undergraduate students. Individual degree of masculinity/femininity (gender) was indicated by the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), while cognitive preferences were measured and described by Hermann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI). Another data were obtained by means of qualitative research methods, such as participant observation and semi-structured interviews. Besides, in general features were surveyed hand-lateral-preference, professional orientation and attention capability. All probands were divided into 6 categories according to gender and degree of MF. Synthesis of MMPI and HBDI results showed significant congruence between the gender-categories and a dominant preference of the HBDI{\crq}s cognitive styles: Masculine men {--} a dominant preference of A-mode (analytical thinking). Feminine men {--} a dominant preference of D-mode (imaginative thinking). Masculine women {--} a dominant preference of B-mode (sequential thinking). Feminine women {--} a dominant preference of C-mode (interpersonal thinking). This findings were in accordance with a professional orientation of the probands (regardless of the field of study they have choosen). Right-brain dominant students (mostly feminine men) were not well-adjusted to a classical passive teaching metods.

Rodina v moderním americkém dramatu / Family in modern American drama

Hovorka, Jan January 2011 (has links)
This work analyses the American family in context of society and its demands. It focuses on the cannonical works of the Modern American drama, namely plays of Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Edward Albee, Sam Shepard and David Mamet. The playwrights are analysed in two distinctive groups according to similar themes they share. Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller depict the family under increasing pressure from the outside as well from the inside. The unit disintegrates, members of the family escape and thus the unit loses its funtions. The pressure is imposed by the tenets of the American mythology that governs the society, which, in turn, influences the family. The common theme of the first group of playwrights is the feeling of loss. This comprises of two dimensions - spatial and tempoval. The second group of playwrights share the same theme of loss with its spatial and temporal implications. They are characteristic by their distinctive use of language that depicts the prevalent sense of doom, apocalypse, futility and sterility. The search for identity is also implied by the restlessness of characters. The detrimental effect of harsh business environment on the family is explored with regards to masculinity. The work shows the family in the context of the 1950s, an era when the family was elevated to...

Politika genderové identity v dělnickém prostředí na Liberecku (1890-1914). / The policy of gender identity in the labour movement within the region of Liberec (1890-1914).

Mareš, Jan January 2021 (has links)
Jan MAREŠ, The policy of gender identity in the labour movement within the region of Liberec (1890-1914), dissertation, Institute of Czech History, Charles University, Charles University Prague, 2021. The thesis attempts to address the question of whether and how the configuration of the gender order of the labour movement represented by the German Social Democracy was transformed and how it was formed by class and nationalist politics. Therefore the dissertation focuses on changes of the representations of femininity and masculinity and desirable social relations between two of them. It is situated into the specific spatial context of the city of Liberec/Reichenberg in North Bohemia and its surroundings, with emphasis on the period 1890-1914. The broader context of the development of the workers' Social democratic movement is considered too. The study is mainly based on printed literary sources with special regard to periodicals. Firstly, the thesis examines the broader context of the formation and reception of Marxist thought and its relationship to the national and woman question. The second chapter is focused on the 1860s and 1870s. It builds on existing literature about development of the Social democratic movement, but illuminates it from a gender perspective. Here the attention is focused...

Vizuální symbolické násilí na ženách a zvířatech jako prostředek reprezentace a ukotvení patriarchální moci / Visual symbolical violence against women and animals as means of representation and consolidation of the patriarchal power

Gabrielová, Jana January 2017 (has links)
The dissertation connects areas of critical-animal studies and feminist studies over the question of picturing bodies of animals and women including visual violence. In particular it addresses the use of mentioned picturing methods by an animal rights movement. I understand women and animals to be marginalised groups in patriarchal society on which is represented the power of hegemonic masculinity by denigrating, violent and sexual representation, even though each group has its specifics. The method of representation serves as means of confirmation and embedding of hegemonic masculinity, anthropocentric system built on binary oppositions man/woman, human/animal, and with them related discourse of difference. The aim of the dissertation is to point out common characteristics of denigrating representation including violence (with sexual meaning) on animals and women who are reduced to objects, on which visualisation of violence is socially accepted. The initial point comes from feminist theories of Carol J. Adams and her concept of absent referent. Further it works with concept of intersectionality and fluid identity according to Rosi Braidotti, which enables consideration of assigning a claim of personal identity also to animals. From the methodological position, the dissertation is based on...
