Functional changes in rat achilles tendon following collagenase injury and manual soft tissue mobilizationLim, Young-tae January 1994 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the functional changes due to the Graston Therapeutic Technique (GTT) in an animal model. This study attempted to verify the biomechanical changes associated with the Graston Therapeutic Technique (GTT) in order to possibly apply it to humans as a major physical therapy modality. Eighteen adult, male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned randomly to three groups. The groups were classified as follows: (a) no injured plus GTT treatment, (b) injured minus GTT treatment, (c) injured plus GTT treatment. The GTT therapy began after one week following injury to allow for optimum inflammation and scar formation. The animals receiving GTT had six treatments over the course of two weeks. Running tests were performed on a treadmill at a velocity of 22 cm/s prior to induction of injury, one week following injury, two weeks following injury, and three weeksfollowing injury in the experimental groups. Variables analyzed were knee and ankle range of motion (ROM), stride length (SL), and stride frequency (SF). Significance of effect between experimental groups were determined by repeated measures one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's post hoc test, and Newman-Keuls post hoc test. The stride length and stride frequency results of the present study appeared to indicate that the Graston Therapeutic Technique (GTT) had an effect on changes in the stride length and stride frequency after injury. Statistical analysis between observations for the GTT plus groups indicated a significant difference in the swing phase of knee ROM. The results of this study also indicated that the Graston Therapeutic Technique may have had an influence on knee joint range of motion. / School of Physical Education

Tre deltagare inkluderades i studien. / Background: Heel pain affects 1 in 10 individuals at some point in life, in about 80% of the cases, the cause is plantar fasciitis. The healing time for plantar fasciitis can be very long, in some cases up to two years. Adherence to treatment is of great importance for the outcome in physiotherapy. Aim: To investigate how the strength of the toe flexor, focusing on the eccentric load, affecting self-efficacy for activity (power walking) and symptoms of plantar fasciitis. Further to investigate and examine factors affecting adherence to exercise, and how participants feel the workout, based of social cognitive theory. Methods: The study has an A-B-A Single-Case Design. Patients asked to participate at a private physiotherapy clinic in Sweden. Three participants were included in the study. Baseline measurements was collected for two weeks (A1) that was followed by six weeks of intervention with ending baseline measurements for two weeks (A2). Data were collected through self-reported estimates of the variables of interest in a diary. Visual reading was made based on the trend and slope. Results: Participants A showed improvement, B and C have persistent or increased symptoms. All participants showed high self-efficacy for performing the exercise. Participant A and B showed high adherence and C showed lower adherence to the exercise program. Conclusions:. The author's conclusion is that the exercise program is feasible for patients with plantar fasciitis. For a future group study the inclusion and exclusion criteria are proposed to be based on the results of this study.

Физическая реабилитация после перелома лучевой кости в типичном месте с использованием механотерапии с биологической обратной связью : магистерская диссертация / Physical rehabilitation after tyical radius fracture with the use of biofeedback mechanotheratyКочина, В. Р., Kochina, V. R. January 2019 (has links)
Taking into consideration high prevalence of upper extremities injuries, there is a particular demand on development of effective methods of physical rehabilitation after typical radius fracture. This will enable significantly decrease the recovery time, improve quality of life and will promote psychological health of patients. Implementation of the proposed method will be more effective in comparison with traditional methods used in medical departments at the moment. The aim of the study is to justify effectiveness of innovative physical rehabilitation methods. Thirty patients with typical radius fracture were recruited for the study. The obtained research enabled to develop effective complex methodic for rehabilitation after radius fracture in typical place. Guidelines and recommendations for healthcare practitioners and physical rehabilitation specialists were proposed for implementation of this methodic in patients after radius fractures in typical place.
