O trabalho desenvolve-se a partir de uma sucinta análise de modelos iconográficos precedentes, para então discutir as mudanças impetradas por Michelangelo nessa tradição iconográfica ao idealizar sua própria interpretação para o tema, observando-se também os pontos de contato do artista com essa mesma tradição. Para proceder a tal análise, serão vistas possíveis influências externas ao campo artístico, como as pregações de Girolamo Savonarola e o saque de Roma de 1527. Por fim, a pesquisa irá discutir as críticas sofridas pelo Juizo michelangiano no século XVI, examinando as razões para uma oposição tão forte ao afresco a partir do ambiente contra-reformístico / Abstract: This work approaches the iconography of the Last Judgement, focusing especially on the renowned fresco of Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) in the Sistine Chapel. It begins with a brief analysis of preceding iconographic models; afterward it shall examine the changes entreated by Michelangelo in this iconographic tradition as he idealised his own interpretation for the subject, also considering the elements he maintained from this tradition. For such analysis, we shall see possible influences from outside the artistic context, such as the preaching of Girolamo Savonarola and the Sack ofRome in 1527. Finally, it shall be fundamental to discuss the criticisms to Michelangelo's Last Judgement in the sixteenth century as well as to examine the reasons for such fierce opposition to the fresco from the Counter-reformist context / Mestrado / Mestre em História
