I study the trajectory effected by goiana society in search of its modernization during the XX century. For this, will be analyzed the public policies of Vargas and Kubitschek governments that had objectified the incorporation of the Brazilian Center-West to the capitalist system and political world. The main focus of this research is the process of meaning given to the history of the Federal University of Goiás, since its idealization, creation, through the struggle over its structure, the military crackdown of 1964 and reaching the University Reform of 1968. The inclusion of Goiás in modernity it was only possible thanks the technicist ideology imposed for a organizacional ideal that also was linked to the creators of the universities and to investment that came for the state, arranged in a broad attempt to shift the economic hub of Southeast, especially of Rio de Janeiro for Goiás . The University represented an instrument responsible for the formation cultural and intellectual of this administrative and bureaucratic body, and would also have the task of preserving regional culture and develop some sectors of the State. / Este é um trabalho que tem por objeto a modernização goiana. Estudo a trajetória percorrida pela sociedade goiana em busca de sua modernização durante o século XX. Para isso, serão analisadas as políticas públicas dos governos Vargas e Kubitschek que objetivaram a incorporação do Centro-Oeste brasileiro ao sistema capitalista e político mundial. O foco principal dessa pesquisa é o processo de significação dado à história da Universidade Federal de Goiás, desde a sua idealização, criação, passando pela luta em torno da sua estruturação, pela repressão militar de 1964 e chegando até a Reforma Universitária de 1968. A inserção de Goiás na modernidade só foi possível graças à ideologia tecnicista imposta por um ideal organizacional que também esteve ligado aos idealizadores das universidades e aos investimentos que vieram para o Estado, dispostos numa larga tentativa de deslocamento do eixo econômico da região Sudeste, em especial do Rio de Janeiro, para Goiás. A Universidade representou um instrumento responsável pela formação cultural e intelectual desse corpo burocrático-administrativo e, também teria as tarefas de preservar a cultura regional e desenvolver vários setores do Estado.
