Application : acquisition optique systématique et détaillée des fonds marins / Design of a hybrid coordination algorithm for groups of communicating submarine robots. Application : optical acquisition systematic and detailed seabed

Ben Saad, Seifallah 14 September 2016 (has links)
In the underwater environment, the needs of data acquisition have significantly increased over the last decades. As electromagnetic waves show poor propagation in sea water, acoustical sensing is generally preferred. However, the emergence of small and low cost autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) allow for rethinking the underwater use of optical sensors as their small coverage can be significantly improved by using a fleet of coordinated underwater robots. This paper presents a strategy to coordinate the group of robots in order to systematically survey the seabed to detect small objects or singularities. The proposed hybrid coordination strategy is defined by two main modes. The first mode relies on a swarm algorithm to organize the team in geometrical formation. In the second mode, the robot formation is maintained using a hierarchical coordination. A finite state machine controls the high level hybrid strategy by defining the appropriate coordination mode according to the evolution of the mission. Before sea validation, the behavior and the performance of the hybrid coordination strategy are first assessed in simulation. The control of individual robots relies on visual servoing, implemented with the OpenCV library, and the simulation tool is based on Blender software. The dynamics of the robots has been implemented in a realistic way in Blender by using the Bullet solver and the hydrodynamic coeficcients estimated on the actual robot. First results of the hybrid coordination strategy applied on a fleet of 3 AUV’s, show execution of a video acquisition task by a group of autonomous robots controlled by vision and coordinated by a hybrid strategy.

Self-reconfigurable multi-robot systems

Pickem, Daniel 27 May 2016 (has links)
Self-reconfigurable robotic systems are variable-morphology machines capable of changing their overall structure by rearranging the modules they are composed of. Individual modules are capable of connecting and disconnecting to and from one another, which allows the robot to adapt to changing environments. Optimally reconfiguring such systems is computationally prohibitive and thus in general self-reconfiguration approaches aim at approximating optimal solutions. Nonetheless, even for approximate solutions, centralized methods scale poorly in the number of modules. Therefore, the objective of this research is the development of decentralized self-reconfiguration methods for modular robotic systems. Building on completeness results of the centralized algorithms in this work, decentralized methods are developed that guarantee stochastic convergence to a given target shape. A game-theoretic approach lays the theoretical foundation of a novel potential game-based formulation of the self-reconfiguration problem. Furthermore, two extensions to the basic game-theoretic algorithm are proposed that enable agents to modify the algorithms' parameters during runtime and improve convergence times. The flexibility in the choice of utility functions together with runtime adaptability makes the presented approach and the underlying theory suitable for a range of problems that rely on decentralized local control to guarantee global, emerging properties. The experimental evaluation of the presented algorithms relies on a newly developed multi-robotic testbed called the "Robotarium" that is equipped with custom-designed miniature robots, the "GRITSBots". The Robotarium provides hardware validation of self-reconfiguration on robots but more importantly introduces a novel paradigm for remote accessibility of multi-agent testbeds with the goal of lowering the barrier to entrance into the field of multi-robot research and education.

TAR: Trajectory adaptation for recognition of robot tasks to improve teamwork

Novitzky, Michael 07 January 2016 (has links)
One key to more effective cooperative interaction in a multi-robot team is the ability to understand the behavior and intent of other robots. Observed teammate action sequences can be learned to perform trajectory recognition which can be used to determine their current task. Previously, we have applied behavior histograms, hidden Markov models (HMMs), and conditional random fields (CRFs) to perform trajectory recognition as an approach to task monitoring in the absence of commu- nication. To demonstrate trajectory recognition of various autonomous vehicles, we used trajectory-based techniques for model generation and trajectory discrimination in experiments using actual data. In addition to recognition of trajectories, we in- troduced strategies, based on the honeybee’s waggle dance, in which cooperating autonomous teammates could leverage recognition during periods of communication loss. While the recognition methods were able to discriminate between the standard trajectories performed in a typical survey mission, there were inaccuracies and delays in identifying new trajectories after a transition had occurred. Inaccuracies in recog- nition lead to inefficiencies as cooperating teammates acted on incorrect data. We then introduce the Trajectory Adaptation for Recognition (TAR) framework which seeks to directly address difficulties in recognizing the trajectories of autonomous vehicles by modifying the trajectories they follow to perform them. Optimization techniques are used to modify the trajectories to increase the accuracy of recognition while also improving task objectives and maintaining vehicle dynamics. Experiments are performed which demonstrate that using trajectories optimized in this manner lead to improved recognition accuracy.

Efficient Factor Graph Fusion for Multi-robot Mapping

Natarajan, Ramkumar 12 June 2017 (has links)
"This work presents a novel method to efficiently factorize the combination of multiple factor graphs having common variables of estimation. The fast-paced innovation in the algebraic graph theory has enabled new tools of state estimation like factor graphs. Recent factor graph formulation for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) like Incremental Smoothing and Mapping using the Bayes tree (ISAM2) has been very successful and garnered much attention. Variable ordering, a well-known technique in linear algebra is employed for solving the factor graph. Our primary contribution in this work is to reuse the variable ordering of the graphs being combined to find the ordering of the fused graph. In the case of mapping, multiple robots provide a great advantage over single robot by providing a faster map coverage and better estimation quality. This coupled with an inevitable increase in the number of robots around us produce a demand for faster algorithms. For example, a city full of self-driving cars could pool their observation measurements rapidly to plan a traffic free navigation. By reusing the variable ordering of the parent graphs we were able to produce an order-of-magnitude difference in the time required for solving the fused graph. We also provide a formal verification to show that the proposed strategy does not violate any of the relevant standards. A common problem in multi-robot SLAM is relative pose graph initialization to produce a globally consistent map. The other contribution addresses this by minimizing a specially formulated error function as a part of solving the factor graph. The performance is illustrated on a publicly available SuiteSparse dataset and the multi-robot AP Hill dataset."

Uma arquitetura de controle inteligente para múltiplos robôs / An intelligent control architecture for multi-robots

Gedson Faria 24 April 2006 (has links)
In this work, an intelligent control architecture for multi-robots denominated ACIn was proposed. With this objective, some techniques considered intelligent were studied for the planning of trajectories, such as Artificial Neural Networks, Potential Fields and Potential Fields based on the boundary value problem (BVP). Such techniques, normally used for a single robot, were adapted to function with multi-robots inside the ACIn architecture. Another contribution of this work refers to the improvement of the Potential Fields based on the boundary value problem (BVP) technique. This improvement was proposed to supply the drawback of the BVP based techniques when they are applied to multi robots environments. Besides, a Rule Based System (RBS) was also proposed as part of the ACIn architecture. The objective of the RBS is to characterize the functionality of each robot for a determined task. This is necessary for the behavior of the equip members not to be competitive, but collaborative. Finally, it was observed through the experiments with the robot soccer simulated environment, that our intelligent control architecture (ACIn) proposal, integrating planning and RBS for the control of multi-robots was satisfactory

Mapeamento e localização simultâneos para multirobôs cooperativos. / Cooperative multi-robot simultaneous localization and mapping.

Romero Cano, Victor Adolfo 05 October 2010 (has links)
In this text a comparative survey between the two basic strategies used to combine partial landmark based maps in multi-robot systems, data association and inter-robot observations (known as rendezvous), is presented. The simulated environment is a at place populated by trees, which are going to be mapped by a two-mobile robot team equipped with laser range finders in order to measure every tree (landmark) location and width. Partial maps are estimated using the algorithm FastSLAM. Besides the comparative study it is also proposed an alternative algorithm for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) in multi-robot cooperative systems. It uses observations between robots (detections) not only for calculating the coordinate transformation but also in the development of a sequential process for updating the alignment between maps, exploiting in a more efficient way the inter-robot observations. The experiments showed that the algorithm can lead to significantly better results in terms of accuracy when compared with the traditional approach of combining maps (using the relative distance between robots).

Desenvolvimento de técnicas de acompanhamento para interação entre humano e uma equipe de robôs / Development of following techniques for interaction of human and multi-robot teams

Batista, Murillo Rehder 17 December 2018 (has links)
The field of Robotics have been advancing significantly on the last few decades, presenting commercial products like vacuum cleaning robots and autonomous quadcopter drones. With the increasing presence of robots in our routine, it is necessary to develop human-robot interaction schemes to manage their relationship. Works that deal with a single robot doing a socially acceptable human following behavior are available, but do not consider cases where a robot team walks with a human In this thesis, it is presented a solution for social navigation between a human and a robot team combining socially aware human following techniques with a multirobot escorting method, generating four bioinspired navigation strategies based on collective intelligence and social behavior. Experiments comparing these four strategies on a simulated environment in various scenarios highlighted advantages and disadvantages of each strategy. Moreover, an experiment with real robots was made to investigate the difference on perception of people when interacting with one or three robots, and no difference was found.
