Den mångtydiga notbilden : Klingande gestaltning av pianostycken i romantisk stil utifrån instuderingar med reducerade notbilder

Persson, Olof January 2006 (has links)
ENGLISH SUMMARY Title: The ambiguous score Presenting romantic piano pieces from simplified scores In this essay, I have investigated if different types of simplified scores – scores whose musical structure are clearer compared to the original – can stimulate a more artistic interpretation as well as a more linear understanding of the piece. My analysis also investigates what kind of impact these kinds of scores have on memorization. The music is derived from the romantic piano repertoire and the subjects are six university-level music students. Half of them were placed in a reference group, and only received the original scores, while the others also received the altered versions. I used both reduced scores where notes were removed in order to emphasize the linear structure and scores where the pitch notation was the same as in the original , but the notes were grouped differently. The result indicates that those having access to multiple versions had a positive impact on the musical interpretation. They also gained a more comprehensive understanding of the overall form.

Perfectionism in South African university music students : correlations with academic motivation and performance anxiety

Botha, Madaleen January 2015 (has links)
Perfectionism is often associated with the positive characteristics of motivation, effort and achievement. However, perfectionism encouraged by the views of others may result in increased levels of anxiety and ultimately lead to inferior academic performances of undergraduate university students. The aim of the study is to examine whether, and if so, to what extent perfectionism is related to academic motivation and performance anxiety in BA (Music) and BMus students. A total of 93 music students from four South African universities’ music departments participated in the study. Significant correlations between perfectionism, academic motivation and performance anxiety within the sample are explored. Additionally, the perfectionism, motivation and anxiety levels of the students are compared according to confounding variables such as the academic institution, type of music degree, academic year, gender, home language and first instrument. The study follows a quantitative survey design consisting of the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS), the Work Preference Inventory (WPI) and the Performance Anxiety Inventory-Revised (PAI-R). Strong positive correlations were found between the Concern over Mistakes subscale of perfectionism and the Extrinsic Motivation: Outward dimension. The Personal Standards subscale of perfectionism showed moderate to strong correlations to the Intrinsic Motivation: Challenge and Extrinsic Motivation: Compensation dimensions. The BA (Music) students scored significantly higher than the BMus students in Performance Anxiety, Parental Expectations and Parental Criticism. Students from the Other language (African language) group scored significantly higher in both the perfectionism subscales of Parental Expectations and Parental Criticism. The study provides valuable insight into the perfectionistic trends and its effect on motivational orientations in South African undergraduate music students, particularly the differences between the BA (Music) and BMus degrees, which have not yet been investigated. The study verifies various inter-correlations between aspects of perfectionism and motivation with specific emphasis on the parental dimensions of perfectionism. / Dissertation (MMus)--University of Pretoria, 2015. / Music / Unrestricted

Charles Koechlin's Silhouettes de Comédie for Bassoon and Orchestra: An in Depth Study

Unknown Date (has links)
Charles Koechlin composed the Silhouettes de Comédie for bassoon and orchestra in 1943. It is a monumental work for bassoon due to its length, scope, orchestration, and magnitude of difficulty. Because of these elements, the Silhouettes de Comédie has languished in obscurity. The purpose of this treatise will be to discuss in depth all aspects of the Silhouettes in order to bring this major work by a renowned composer back to the public awareness and add it to the bassoonist's repertoire. In addition to providing biographical information concerning Koechlin's life and career, this treatise includes an in-depth study of each of the movements of the Silhouettes de Comédie. The character of each movement is indicated by a descriptive title. Some of the movements are dedicated to single characters from the Commedia dell'Arte tradition, but others are more likely to have been inspired by a combination of Commedia-influenced art, drama, poetry, film, and literature from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. / A Treatise submitted to the College of Music in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Music. / Summer Semester, 2009. / April 29, 2009. / Commedia, Koechlin, Bassoon / Includes bibliographical references. / Jeffrey Keesecker, Professor Directing Treatise; Richard Clary, Outside Committee Member; Eric Ohlsson, Committee Member.

Det ”svenska musikundret” och den kommunala musikskolan : Kommersialiseringen av musikens påverkan på musikbranschen, kulturekonomin och den svenska musikutbildningen.

Lindholm, Sandra January 2021 (has links)
This thesis provides an insight in the development of the Swedish music industry as well as in the secondary school musical education during the period from 2009 to 2019. It provides an historical background that reflects on the industrialization that took place within music industry in the early 70-ties and how that has evolved and impacted the functions in the industry and the role they play today. It also includes an overview of select research, published thesis and theories and the view of different type of cultural capital and its evolvement and impact on the society on domestic and international levels. It reflects on how the structural setup of today’s music industry impact music workers and their ability to have a professional career, how the highly commercialized and streamlined music creates obstacles for new musicians to reach out with their music and thereby develop their professional careers. The analysis and summary display the situation that arise and that includes questions about the ability to maintain high growing and successful music industry if the foundation built on music education is diminished and entrepreneurial skills becomes the main competence.
