Automatic Restoration and Management of Computational Notebooks

Venkatesan, Satish 03 March 2022 (has links)
Computational Notebook platforms are very commonly used by programmers and data scientists. However, due to the interactive development environment of notebooks, developers struggle to maintain effective code organization which has an adverse effect on their productivity. In this thesis, we research and develop techniques to help solve issues with code organization that developers face in an effort to improve productivity. Notebooks are often executed out of order which adversely effects their portability. To determine cell execution orders in computational notebooks, we develop a technique that determines the execution order for a given cell and if need be, attempt to rearrange the cells to match the intended execution order. With such a tool, users would not need to manually determine the execution orders themselves. In a user study with 9 participants, our approach on average saves users about 95% of the time required to determine execution orders manually. We also developed a technique to support insertion of cells in rows in addition to the standard column insertion to help better represent multiple contexts. In a user study with 9 participants, this technique on a scale of one to ten on average was judged as a 8.44 in terms of representing multiple contexts as opposed to standard view which was judged as 4.77. / Master of Science / In the field of data science computational notebooks are a very commonly used tool. They allow users to create programs to perform computations and to display graphs, tables and other visualizations to supplement their analysis. Computational Notebooks have some limitations in the development environment which can make it difficult for users to organize their code. This can make it very difficult to read through and analyze the code to find or fix any errors which in turn can have a very negative effect on developer productivity. In this thesis, we research methods to improve the development environment and increase developer productivity. We achieve this by offering tools to the user that can help organize and cleanup their code making it easier to comprehend the code and make any necessary changes.

Plan de negocios para la implementación de una línea de cuadernos con características artísticas y organizativas: Rombook

Capcha Porras, Aaron Francisco, Cocha Retiz, Valeria Sofia, Gordillo Medina, Karol Stepanie, Montes Calle, Carlos Daniel, Mujica Saco Vertiz, Mario Alonso 01 December 2019 (has links)
Nowadays, independent art in Peru and the world is a cultural expression that still struggles to become visible, especially in those segments dominated by a more commercial art. Beginner or lesser-known illustrators and graphic designers experience a need for exposure not only to be able to live from their profession, but also because in a context dominated by social media; success is measured by followers and likes. Given this, new artists are constantly searching for ways to help their work reach more people. How to give independent artists an exhibition window that also allows them to generate some kind of income? Could they go back to more traditional channels to achieve it? In this context, it is important to highlight that it is young university students who have a greater attraction for independent art and they turn out to be an attractive market when it comes to products related to culture. This situation, coupled with the need of artists for a more massive means of exposure, allowed to generate the idea of creating a new alternative for a tool widely used by university students, which due to its portable feature becomes something exposed in several places and for several people: a notebook. Thus, Rombook is born. Rombook is a proposal that differs by gathering multiple customizable organizational features while promoting independent art through its cover, becoming more than just a notebook. The target market points to modern and sophisticated lifestyles, especially for university students in Metropolitan Lima, between men and women; with a desire to differentiate and express their personality through art. To estimate the market size, the successive ratios method was used. A potential market of 151,600 university students in Lima was obtained for Rombook. In addition, it was determined that sales of 48,549 Soles (PEN) will be received in the first year of operations. Thus, Rombook proposes to become a brand that contributes to a culture that values and appreciates independent art, while being a special window for its exhibition. / Trabajo de investigación

A wall and a city

Dunn, Cary Franklin January 1983 (has links)
To consider a wall as a city element, a city addition, a wall proportioned to the scale of a city where the wall ls proposed not as a building, but rather as a community of buildings whose presence demands that their external possibilities are as significant as their internal obligations, a wall whose position brings order to the means of movement vital to the life of the city. / M. An interstice

Solomon, Lee Ann 24 February 2010 (has links)
In this exploration of nature and symbolism, catalyzed and expressed in architectural form, an environment emerges which provides both an intellectual and sensual world. These ideas are expressed on a general, architectural, and case study level. Nondiscursive and discursive thoughts have been applied in the hopes of bringing together people, architecture, and nature to make a place a whole. / Master of Architecture

A thesis of architecture

Delgado, Eduard 26 January 2010 (has links)
As we move from one dimension to the next, there are cycles from cosmic to chaotic order, each element is part of a bigger one. It can be concluded there is a whole to which all things form part, the parts can be seen as articulations of the whole. It makes sense that the whole which contains all and is not contained be of cosmic order. / Master of Architecture

The Floatplane Controversy: Proscription, Procedure, and Protection in Carroll County, Virginia, 1992

Wesdock, Ryan Joseph 19 June 2019 (has links)
In March of 1992, Marion Goldwasser, a teacher at Carroll County High School in Virginia, came under fire for her use of the book, The Floatplane Notebooks, in her classroom. A local preacher and several parents objected to six pages which contained sexual content. Over the next three months, residents throughout Southwest Virginia entered into a debate over the merits of the book, and more broadly the purpose of education. This debate roughly divided into three camps with different perspectives not just on how to proceed, but on the very nature of the controversy itself. These camps were those who felt the controversy was primarily about the censoring of books, those who were primarily concerned with the proper procedure by which the book should be reviewed, and those who saw the book as a moral affront to religious, Christian values. These disputes remained intractable throughout the controversy reflecting underlying disagreements about the ethical role of state power, the public nature of public schools, and the connection between power and knowledge. By understanding these underlying intellectual causes for the intractability of censorship disputes, historians can engage other academics and the public on this important issue. Engagement can take multiple forms, including writing in handbooks designed to help educators deal with such controversies, writing amici curiae briefs on relevant First Amendment cases, and encouraging a broader and more lucid public discussion on censorship and free speech. / Master of Arts / Marion Goldwasser was a high school teacher in Carroll County, Virginia in 1992. That year, she taught a book called The Floatplane Notebooks in her classroom. A parent and a local preacher objected to her use of the book because they did not like its sexual references. They demanded that the book never be used again and that the school board fire Goldwasser. The teacher, the preacher, the school board, and the community debated what to do for four months. Finally, Superintendent Oliver McBride ended the controversy by compromising and allowing the book to be used for advanced senior classes but not junior classes. This controversy matters because it tells us something about censorship controversies in general. They have been going on for a long time and are likely to continue. People disagree about when the government should get involved. They disagree about why we have public schools. They disagree on who should make decisions for the classroom and how the media talks about censorship. Historians need to understand this. When they do, they can help the public become more informed on the issue of censorship.
