"Černý Petr": česká společnost a Čestný štít protektorátu Čechy a Morava / "Old Maid": Czech Society and the Honour Shield of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia

Beneš, Otmar January 2019 (has links)
Presented diploma thesis focuses on research and analysis of the only decoration founded in the name of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. It is not only focusing on the timeframe of the Second World War, but it also tracks the phenomenon of civil decorations and medals across entire modern Czech history. The main research question is following: why was not the preceding First Czechoslovak Republic creating similar institutions and why after 1945, or more precisely 1948, the time has come to create enormous inflation of them. The main aim of the thesis is to define the Honour Shield of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia as probably the very first civil decoration of modern Czech history. The thesis is not only focusing on the period of the occupation (1944-45), when the decoration was distributed. It also concentrates in detail on the previous thinking of the Nazi occupation authorities, which then resulted in founding of the decoration, together with the postwar retribution, with which were the awarded people confronted after 1945. The thesis is modifying so far common purely phaleristical approach to the topic, which it is supplementing with wider context. It is assessing the reaction of the Czech population on this particular award and on the term of honour, which it was supposed to...

Kadlec, Petr January 2015 (has links)
Karel Ančerl 1968-1973. A documentary monograph OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this thesis is to capture and describe the last five years (1968-1973) of life and artistic achievements of the conductor Karel Ančerl. This is a topic which has not been elaborated on an academic level yet. On the beginning of the captured period we find Ančerl to be a prominent member of the Czechoslovak music environment working as the chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic. At the end of this period, Ančerl permanently lived and worked in Canada as the chief conductor of the Toronto Symphony. This fact is reflected in the two main topics of this thesis. First, there is the theme of process of following a qualitative change which the Toronto Symphony undertook during Karel Ančerl's leadership. Second, there is the relationship of the conductor to the Czechoslovak environment and its musical tradition. Main axis of the thesis is defined by a chronological following of the affairs of Karel Ančerl's life story in the given period. METHODOLOGY: Since the estate of Karel Ančerl has been missing, some of the important - maybe even the most important - documents still remain unknown. The story is being told with the help of supporting sources, just like is the correspondence between Ančerl and Ivan Medek, which covers...

Od neutrality k alianci: Dánsko na cestě ke spojenectví s USA a ke členství v NATO: Příspěvek ke studiu dánské zahraniční politiky v letech 1945-1949 / From Neutrality to Alliance: Denmark on the Way to the Alliance with the USA and to the Membership in NATO: Contribution to the Study of Danish Foreign Policy in 1945-1949

Hůrská, Jana January 2018 (has links)
The topic of my diploma thesis is the Danish foreign policy between the years 1945 and 1949 and its relation to the Danish national identity. The main research question is, if and how the Danish national identity influenced the state's shift from the traditional neutrality policy to the North Atlantic Agreement. To understand the national narrative I use a discoursive analysis of selected sources, mainly the daily press and political speeches intended for public. I focuse not only on the image Danes had about them selves, but also on their view of the other agents of the international relations - mainly on the Soviet Union, the United States and the North. Keywords: Denmark, USA, Greenland, Occupation of Bornholm, NATO, UN, Marshall Plan, Easter Crisis 1948

Stavební proměna protektorátní Prahy: nacistické záměry a realizované projekty v dopravě a průmyslu / Constructive change of Protectorate Prague: Nazi plans and realized projects of traffic infrastructure and industrial buildings

Bajusz, Tadeáš January 2018 (has links)
This thesis deals with the questions of urban planning and building activity in the time of the Second World War. The research topic of the single case study is Prague in the period of Nazi occupation between March 1939 and May 1945. The aim of the thesis is to challenge the simplifying interpretation of occupation as a period without any building activity. The simplifying interpretation usually explains the low number of built objects being caused directly by the occupants' long term plans with Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. The thesis tries to challenge this interpretation and using the examples of built objects of the traffic infrastructure and industrial buildings, it shows the ongoing building. The first part shortly summarizes the concepts of Nazi architecture and town planning and connects them with long-term plans with the occupied territories of South-eastern Europe. The second chapter concentrates on the Nazi concepts and plans for remaking Prague and introduces the problematics of building activities during occupation. Based on archival research, the examples of building activity of traffic infrastructure and industrial buildings are shown in the third chapter. The conclusion summarizes the results of the research and critically evaluates the outcomes of the thesis. The thesis is based on...
