Desenvolvimento de instrumentação eletrônica para estudos de codificações neurais no duto óptico em moscas / Development of electronic instrumentation for neural coding research in the optical flow of the fly

Almeida, Lirio Onofre Baptista de 18 December 2006 (has links)
Ambos sistemas estão sendo utilizados no laboratório Dipteralab do IFSC, para o estudo da transmissão da informação no duto óptico da mosca / This work describes the project and implementation of custom build electronic instrumentation to be used in neurobiophysical research, more precisely in neural coding experiments with invertebrates. A hard real time computer controlled integrated system was developed capable to acquire the timestamps of evoked neural spikes of a fly submitted to visual stimuli. The visual stimuli generator is a custom build system connected to the hard real time computer capable to generate images at a frame rate of 500Hz. Dedicated hardware was developed, including an analog front end and FPGA based digital circuits. The IBM/PC compatible computer hosted hardware provides the system interface with the end user. Two prototypes were build, one based on dedicated hardware and the other based on real time routines executed on the host computer. Both systems are in use at the Dipteralab of our institute to study the information transmission of the optic flow signal in fly.

An Assessment of the Key Success Factors of Manufacturing Performance From the Perspective of External Decision-Makers

Gomes, Carlos Ferreira, Yasin, Mahmoud M., Lisboa, João V. 01 January 2007 (has links)
The objective of this study is to investigate the approaches utilised by external decision-makers in their evaluation of the different facets of performance of manufacturing organisations, operating as open systems. In process, important linkages which exist among relevant performance parameters are explored. The types and frequencies of performance measures used by the sampled Portuguese financial analysts are compared using factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. Results tend to underscore the significance of the collective performance of all subsystems of the manufacturing system. Based on the findings of this research, implications focusing on the management of organisational performance systems are identified.

Ecologically considered design of operational systems for high-rise buildings in Kolkata

Chakraborty, Kalyan January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Architecture / R. Todd Gabbard / This thesis presents design possibilities for reducing the ecological impact of the operational systems of high-rise buildings in Kolkata, India. This research is supported by a study of the current urban situation of Kolkata which shows a recent growth in number of high-rise buildings and a need for ecological considerations in their operational systems. To fulfill this need this thesis studied recent developments in alternative operational system design and explored the possibility of developing operational systems in a proposed residential high-rise building. In the process of developing an alternative operational system for a high-rise building in Kolkata this thesis firstly studied development of operational systems in high-rise buildings and recent sustainable architectural guidelines to understand the primary design necessities for ecological considerations. Secondly a study of alternative design strategies and techniques was done and a research for the development of a building integrated solar thermal updraft façade was carried out. The research into a building integrated solar thermal updraft façade showed the possibility of developing a façade system in high-rise buildings which can generate electricity. Finally on the basis of the studies and the research an analysis was done to check the reduction in carbon footprint and improvement in the design of operational systems in a hypothetical high-rise residential building in Kolkata.

Uma arquitetura hierárquica baseada em sistema de arquivos para monitoramento de pacotes de rede no sistema operacional GNU/Linux / A hierarchical architecture based on the file system for monitoring network packets on GNU / Linuxoperating system

Leal, Beraldo Costa 14 October 2013 (has links)
Capturing and analyzing data packets flowing across networks are essential tasks for network administrators. These tasks help to detect anomalies in the systems and check the current status of a network. There are software applications for the GNU/Linux operating system which perform such tasks. These tools also export their information to users and other applications in different ways. However, current systems do not export this information in a hierarchical manner. This research introduces an alternative architecture to current systems. Our architecture exports data packets in a hierarchical structure of directories and files. Furthermore, since this is a modular architecture, additional third-party filters can be developed and loaded into the system. The proposed architecture comes with a reference implementation: the pseudo file system netsfs (Network Statistics File System), in kernel space. The architecture and the pseudo file system netsfs, developed in this research, introduce an alternative method to display data packets. Results show an apparent improvement regarding network throughput
