The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of wetland restoration on the water balance, flushing time, and water chemistry of southern Taylor Slough, a major water way in Everglades National Park. Water balance and flushing time equations were calculated on a monthly time step from 2001 – 2011. Water chemistry of major ions and nutrients were analyzed and correlated with water flushing times. Results showed that evapotranspiration followed by water volume had the greatest influence on flushing time. The flushing times varied between 3 and 78 days, with longer times observed between October and December, and the shorter times between March and May. Ion concentrations at the coastal areas decreased with increased flushing times. Increased surface water inflow that resulted from restoration projects and water management changes were productive in the rainy season and should result in increased flushing times and decreased ion concentrations in Taylor Slough.

For some countries, terror has been an inherent concept in the formation and transformation of their urban condition. 1959 marked a turning point in the history of the Cuban territory. With the coup of the Cuban Revolution and the beginning of the Castro dominance, a control over the territory and the urban fabric became in effect alongside the exercise of political power. The display of control on the built environment was the tool used to impose the new political system across the island at a faster rate. In response to the frugality consequential of the new political system, a survival phenomenon spontaneously arose as Cuban families struggled with the economic models of the island. Many have had to develop a second means of income by either growing and selling produce or livestock. Urban and rural conditions present a different set of challenges that can potentially be addressed and engaged through architecture, urbanism, and the public realm. Holguin, the capital city of the Province of Holguin, is further known as “the city of parks/ plazas”. The inhabitation of these public spaces have experienced a fast paced transformation within the last 3-4 years, much due to recent public accessibility to the internet. Parks have become places of interaction, of connection and reconnection, not only at a personal, but a virtual scale. This phenomenon have made people take a stand and reclaim their city. Although, Holguin’s parks/plazas are being refurbished, planning deficiencies evidence a lack of engagement to the changes that society is experimenting by the porosity of the blockade. Public spaces that respond to their actual flux of information, and the interaction of the different spontaneous phenomena coexisting in Cuban territory is required in order to provide healthy communities that aid its people to achieve a better quality of life as the country keeps transitioning. The first part of the thesis deals with the need to restore the castle park in Tovačov. The need for park renewal was assessed on the basis of several factors, namely the number of green areas in the city, their availability, function and usability for recreation. The results were subsequently supported by a questionnaire survey among residents of the city and adjacent villages. The second part deals with variants of park renewal. All variants are preceded by the first phase of the restoration consisting of cultivation measures. Other variants of the renovation were "Improving the state of the object" and "Restoring in the spirit of history". Variants were mapped and a budget was also created. The resulting material serves the object's owner for his disposal.

The subject of the thesis is to describe issues connected to theme of the urban park by presenting art and architectural principles and inspirations in retrieval part of the thesis and then to come with the unique proposal of the urban park on the example of the particular urban space. The core of the thesis is in the proposal, including the part of the analysis research, which could be helpfull tool for concept part of the proposal. The analysis part of the thesis is presented by graphic and word as well.

BACKGROUND: In the U.S. STEC HUS is the most common cause of acute renal failure in children. In TN from 1996-2017 there were 2008 STEC cases were reported. Every year in the U.S, there 36 reported mortality each year. At our local children’s hospital, 4-5 children are hospitalized with STEC infection each year. Some of these children had no history of ingesting food items that could have placed them at risk to develop STEC infection; however, there are other ways that humans could get infected, such as exposure to contaminated water from cattle farms. GOALS: To determine if there are differences in the presence of STEC at a local park at different seasons of the year. METHODS: Fifty (50) ml of water samples were collected from a creek in 2 areas of public park in Johnson City, TN. Samples were inoculated to Sorbitol McConkey Agar (SMAC) plates under sterile techniques & incubated at 36C for 18 hours under aerobic conditions. RESULTS: Table demonstrating presence of STEC from water samples at different seasons of the year. Public health measures should be undertaken to inform the community that these waters around public parks are contaminated with STEC to prevent STEC infection. The Moravian town of Zlin has now dual look: It is not only historical important architectural monument, but it is also dynamic town with vital public and bussiness life and University of Tomas Baťa. The factory covers important architectural and spiritual heritage, which is even today everywhere visible. Designed science-technical park is situated in Zlin, in previous Baťa´s factory, in the place of late swimming pool for employee. Manufactory is typical of its urbanistic solution. Location of science-technical park is on the border line of the “new“ and “old“ centre of Zlin and shakeups inauguration centre-line of previous factory.

Studied area is located in a quiet street in Palm Brno. Land is mostly wooded park, dominated the land, the villa of 30 years. The idea was to create a concept that keeps dominating the villa and does not interfere with surrounding buildings. New building fills a gap in the street and is stretched to the rear of the property. Loosely on her property for recreation and leisure. The building is partially embedded in the slope, the existing facilities are tennis court. Below ground there are located ground parking.

Ground, construction, light and weather: all of these elements when compounded create architecture. What is the built? What is the unbuilt? How can we merge the two? How can we architect a future where buildings are so contextually true to their site that the boundary of what was traditionally exterior and interior are one in the same? A building must be rooted in the site, it must be of the ground. It has to be grounded. The roots of the building must dig deep into the meaning of what the site is, what it was, and what it wants to be. Through careful discernment of these varied layers of ground are, we can begin to understand the levels and layers that take place within a structure. This thesis strives to ground architecture. The library at Rock Creek Park is nestled into the site, it is of the site, and honest to the site. A building that seems to grow out of Rock Creek Park as it exists in a city, a building that pulls the park into the city, and the city into the park. It is a glimpse of what potential the futures can hold if we, as designers, decide to collaborate, to treat each discipline as a layer of groundwork. A groundwork and foundation that must be laid first and then consciously called to mind to create a strong foundation for the design. This common thread must be kept taut throughout the design process.
