Lavoisier nos livros didáticos: uma análise à luz da História da Ciência

Santos, Ana Flavia 11 September 2015 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-28T14:16:22Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Ana Flavia Santos.pdf: 879662 bytes, checksum: 2c87836548ec3d5d6dddd9d39085d3bb (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-09-11 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This work takes as its starting point the observation that the High School Chemistry textbooks suggested by the PNLD (Textbooks Brazilian National Program) often relate, Lavoisier, the Mass Conservation Law and the origins of Modern Chemistry. With the main purpose of analyzing this relation, the textbooks statements were confronted with studies developed by historians of science in the current historiographical perspectives. Besides, the Elementary Treatise of Chemistry was used as a research original source, focusing mainly on the ideas about the caloric that were undertaken by Lavoisier and Laplace, which had a major role in Lavoisier s conceptions about matter and its transformations. Other ideas were also approached involving the transformations of the matter in the eighteenth century, based on current studies of historians of chemistry. Thus, it was possible to analyze the aspects of the construction of these recurrent ideas on the role of Lavoisier in the birth of modern chemistry . This work has been developed as part of the "History of science and education: interdisciplinary approaches in Higher Education (diagnosis, continuous and specialist training for teachers)", Supported by the Centre for Education Program - OBEDUC (CAPES / INEP process 23038.002603 / 2013 -47) / Este trabalho parte da constatação que os livros didáticos de Química do Ensino Médio sugeridos pelo PNLD recorrentemente relacionam Lavoisier, Lei da Conservação das Massas e origens da Química Moderna.

The capital investment appraisal process : the case of Libya

Mohammed, Moftah January 2013 (has links)
This thesis aims to explore and investigate the state of current investment appraisal practices within Libyan firms. In particular, the thesis attempts to answer four research questions: (1) How do Libyan firms appraise capital investments? (2) Do Libyan firms incorporate risk into their capital investment appraisal processes? (3) Do Libyan firms face capital rationing and, if so, is it externally or internally imposed? and (4) Does the availability of Islamic Finance affect Libyan firms' view of the capital investment appraisal process? This study is based on a qualitative empirical approach, with a subjectivist orientation but a main concern with the sociology of regulation; the interpretive paradigm is employed in this thesis. Rather than simply providing a simple description of the phenomena under investigation, the aim of this thesis is to interpret and understand the issues surrounding the problem being considered. Thus, this study seeks to establish a better understanding about the nature of the capital investment appraisal process in Libyan corporations, and how it differs across Libyan economic sectors. In order to provide evidence and contribute to our knowledge about this topic, two research methods, both compatible with the interpretive paradigm and consistent with the methodology and the researcher’s beliefs about the topic under investigation, are employed. The research methods used are: (i) a semi-structured interviews; then (ii) a questionnaire survey based upon the literature review and on the key results from (i). For the former, 20 interviews were conducted, involving two groups: firm-based interviewees (‘insiders’ working in firms) in five economic sectors with different size and ownership structures and ‘outsider’ interviewees (bankers, academics and chartered accountants). In the second phase, 45 questionnaires were collected from firms which operate in five economic sectors, again with various size and ownership patterns. The main findings indicate that non-financial criteria (e.g. political priorities, State development plan and personal experience) play a more important role than financial factors. While Libyan companies use multiple techniques to appraise capital investments, usage of discounted cash flow techniques (DCF), although increasing is not yet as high as in developed nations, with payback remaining the most popular. The evidence shows that the source of the funding (followed by project size and nature of the project, respectively) also plays a role in choosing the appraisal techniques. Typically, the process of capital investment appraisal in Libya appears to have five stages (determination of budget, research and development, evaluation, authorisation, and monitoring and controlling). Libyan firms consider the first of these as the most important stage. The majority of the respondents employ a post-audit phase of two years or less; about half the sampled firms conduct the post-audit by comparing the actual performance with the feasibility study on which the project was based. The companies consider real options when looking at flexibility, but they have no effect on the choice of the appraisal techniques or the process generally. Similarly, there are no changes in the techniques or the process when advanced manufacturing technology investments are considered. Regarding risk evaluation, this is mostly subjective although scenario analysis and sensitivity analysis are employed to some extent. Around 50% of the firms calculate the cost of capital, but most of these firms do so subjectively (e.g. via interest rate observations), while the rest use CAPM to calculate the cost of capital. Fewer than one in ten of the firms that calculate the cost of capital employ project-specific rates. The majority of the companies noted their experience of capital rationing, mostly of the external variety (primarily reflecting State actions). The majority of the firms claimed to be considering the Libyan Stock Market as source of funding, but not in the near future, essentially because of a lack of knowledge among Libyan companies about its functioning. The findings suggest that use of Islamic finance is not yet common among Libyan firms. However, two thirds of the firms suggested that they would use Islamic financial products to finance their future projects for several reasons; mainly religion, to avoid paying interest or demurrage, plus risk sharing though the use of Islamic financial products such as Musharakah. Those firms, which did not view Islamic finance positively, mentioned the incompatibility of the current products with Islamic Shariah law, suggesting that in reality they are just traditional financial products with Islamic names. Some notable differences between theory and practice emerged in this research. For instance, certain non-financial criteria (e.g. political priorities) were more important than financial factors. Relatedly, there was evidence of external interested parties such as academics seeing practice and ideals differently. This type of finding suggests a key contribution of this study as highlighting the need for contextual specificities to be carefully considered when investigating an issue as (theoretically) straightforward as investment decision-making in practice.

No. of bitstreams: 1 2009 - Duval Nessler.pdf: 730188 bytes, checksum: b23e8e6f11366eaef954a4fd9a7dbfb7 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-12-18 / Nowadays, professionals in the area of Physical Education are challenged to adapt the curriculum to the new guidelines and new demands of society. There will, the following question: "what alternative content taught in classes of Physical Education can be useful for agricultural education?" In handling this issue, this research supports the hypothesis that the agricultural college, the teaching of Physical Education has the need to give students more time through the significant inclusion of AFAN (Physical Activities of Adventure in Nature) and new perspectives to be included in the Agricultural College "Senator Carlos Gomes de Oliveira" (CASCGO). In order to get the general goal, which is try to identify activities related to AFAN that can be focused on teaching Physical Education and funded through an interdisciplinary perspective of agricultural education. The AFAN addressed several issues important to improving the quality of life: sports, corporate and legitimacy of Physical Education school, interdisciplinary, ecology, ecotourism, ecological trails, and even the interface between the Physical Education, Environmental Education and sustainable development. In addressing the methodological aspects of qualitative research, set a new proposal for alternative content in Physical Education in CASCGO. The strategies and deepening of research focus on the literature search, application of the same questionnaire and analysis. From the data collected, it identifies the categories as the evaluation of discipline in CASCGO, their working hours and content, the relationship between physical education and other areas of technical knowledge of the course in Agriculture, the interdisciplinary, and practical feasibility of the AFAN lessons of Physical Education. Analyzing the type of content that is practical and minister in the daily school's agricultural college, seeks to present an innovative fitness, showing a significant educational component for both the teacher and for the student, where he ceases to be a receiver only and skillful, Emphasizing the importance of physical activity in the nature of adventure in your daily life inside and outside the school context. The results of this study suggest that the implementation of the AFAN as prospect for the teaching of Physical Education in CASCGO is within the expectations of students due to shortage of recreation spaces, among which stand out as follows: trees, Ecological and Rock climbing Sports Track. In examining the prospects for the AFAN as CASCGO it was found that among their different ways, the ecological track is the most activity that provides an interface between the Physical Education and Environmental Education, fits perfectly well into our institution of agricultural education. Therefore, it is confirmed that the arrangements between the AFAN suggested, specifically the Ecological Trail is the most auspicious for the CASCGO. It is believed that the AFAN, as content of Physical Education in Agricultural Education can be significant in developing the education of our students.

An Exploratory Study of Current Performance Management Practices: Human Resource Executives’ Perspectives

Gorman, C. Allen, Meraic, John P., Roch, Slyvia G., Ray, Joshua L., Gamble, Jason S. 01 June 2017 (has links)
A survey of performance management (PM) practices in 101 U.S. organizations explored whether their PM systems, as perceived by human resources (HR) executives, reflect the best practices advocated by researchers to provide a benchmark of current PM practices. Results suggest that many of the PM practices recommended in the research literature are employed across the organizations surveyed, but several gaps between research and practice remain. Results also indicated that the majority of PM systems are viewed by HR executives as effective and fair. Implications for the science and practice of PM are discussed.

If I Could Give a Yopp: Confronting Sex, Talk, and Parenting

Kinser, Amber E. 01 December 2014 (has links)
Excerpt: I am wearied by sexual repression in the family. I find parental obsession with virginity for its own sake tiresome. I am troubled by the neighbour boy who, when playing some form of truth or dare, dared my daughter, twice his age, to jump in the air and grab her penis; she says, “That’s going to be tricky, since I don’t have one.” He says, “Really? Why not?” He was seven. My own son figured this out in the bathroom with me at around two.

CAREGIVERS OF PARENTS WITH AlZHEIMER’S DISEASE: QUALITY OF LIFE FOR CAREGIVERS: PERSPECTIVES & FAMILY DYNAMICS

Cornu, Matthew 01 January 2019 (has links)
This study furthers Alzheimer’s family literature regarding the impact of caregiver attachment, readiness to provide care, and caregiver quality of life. A sample of 33 participants caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s disease in the state of Kentucky was recruited to complete a questionnaire for the study. The questionnaire consisted of an online survey about participants’ experiences and attachments growing up with their parents, their experiences becoming caregivers to their parents with Alzheimer’s disease, and participants’ current perspectives of their own quality of life. Positive perspectives in regards to quality of life among caregivers seem to be a predictor of both stronger readiness to care and stronger attachments. These finding inform therapists about the importance of recognizing a caregiver’s presenting problems of burden and their significance to attachment and readiness to provide such care. This recognition may impact therapy to strengthen a caregiver’s positive adaption, thus it may also decrease burden.

Influence of Psychological Capital and Thinking Perspectives on Construction Safety Climate and Performance

Cades, Anne-Perrine Pascale 01 January 2018 (has links)
Understanding safety factors in construction is critical to reducing accident frequency and severity. Grounded in the safety performance model, this study was conducted to examine the impact of psychological capital (PsyCap), which consists of the shared variance of hope, efficacy, resilience and optimism, and Past, Present, and Future thinking perspectives, on safety climate and performance. A nonexperimental quantitative design was used to determine whether PsyCap and thinking perspectives of construction project employees predicted safety performance and/or moderated the relationship between safety climate and performance across construction sites in different countries. 411 construction employees were recruited via a multistage and clustering strategy and took part in the study. The PsyCap Questionnaire, MindTime Profile Inventory, Group-Level Safety Climate Scale, and Safety Performance Measure were used to assess PsyCap, thinking perspectives, safety climate, and safety performance. Multiple regression was used to determine the effects of PsyCap and thinking perspectives on safety climate and safety performance. Results showed that Future and Present thinking predicted PsyCap as well as safety climate and safety performance in the construction industry. Further, safety performance accounted for variations in hope and efficacy, two PsyCap components. Findings might be used to influence thinking perspectives of team leaders in designing training, developing employees' efficacy levels, and preventing accidents and fatalities on construction sites.
