For this we use the two textual documents Stratagemata of Sextus Julius Frontinus and Polyaenus Strategica. We conducted an analysis of the lives of these authors, their works and military events of the most remarkable period in which they lived and wrote aiming a better understanding of why the roman aristocracy produced and consumed this type of literature. / Este trabalho de dissertação tem como objetivo propor uma tipologia dos manuais militares romanos do período do Principado. Para isso usamos dois documentos textuais o Stratagemata de Sexto Julio Frontino e o Strategica de Polieno. Procedemos uma analise da vida destes autores, suas obras e eventos militares mais marcantes do período em que viveram e escreveram objetivando uma melhor compreensão dos motivos pelos quais a aristocracia romana produziu e consumiu este tipo de literatura.
