MULTI CHANNEL AC POWER MONITOR USING DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING

Hicks, William T. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / The monitoring of multi phase 400 Hz aircraft power includes monitoring the phase voltages, currents, real powers, and frequency. This paper describes the design of a multi channel card that uses digital signal processing (DSP) to measure these parameters on a cycle by cycle basis. The card measures the average, peak, minimum cycle, and maximum cycle values of these parameters.

A NEXT GENERATION AIRCRAFT POWER MONITORING SYSTEM

Grossman, Hy 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2007 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Third Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2007 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / Historically, aircraft power monitoring has required the use of multiple signal conditioning functions to measure various parameters including voltage, current, frequency and phase. This information was then post processed to determine the characteristics of the 3-phase power quality on the aircraft. Recent developments in embedded DSP processors within signalconditioning systems provide the instrumentation engineer with expanded capabilities for realtime on-board power quality monitoring. Advantages include reduced space and bandwidth requirements and minimal wiring intrusion. For each phase, output data may include peak positive and negative voltages and currents, peak-to-peak, average and RMS voltages and currents, phase power (real and apparent), phase power factor, phase period (frequency), phase shift measurement from phase 1 (the reference phase) to phase 2, and from phase 1 to phase 3. In addition, a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is performed on each phase voltage to provide Total Harmonic Distortion measurements. This paper describes the methods employed in the implementation of these functions on a single signal-conditioning card in order to provide detailed information about the power quality of a three-phase aircraft power source.

Energy Consumptions of Text Input Methods on Smartphones / Energiförbrukningen för textinmatningsmetoder på Smartphones

Obison, Henry, Ajuorah, Chiagozie January 2013 (has links)
Mobile computing devices, in particular smartphones are powered from Lithium-ion batteries, which are limited in capacity. With the increasing popularity of mobile systems, various text input methods have been developed to improve user experience and performance. Briefly, text input method is a user interface that can be used to compose an electronic mail, configure mobile Virtual Private Network, and carryout bank transactions and online purchases. Efficient energy management in these systems requires an extensive knowledge of where and how the energy is being used. This thesis investigates the energy consumption of text input methods on various smartphones. Hence, the authors modeled the energy consumption profile of text input methods on smartphones and analyze the energy usage benchmarks of the battery. This thesis presents a systematic technique to conduct application specific measurements. The data analysis showed substantial variations in the energy consumptions of various text input methods on a smartphone. / The main objective of this research is to find a systematic and measurement based method to evaluate the energy efficiency of the selected text input methods used on smartphones namely: SwiftKey, Swype, and Zimpl. Using Power Monitor equipment and MATLAB, the energy consumption log files of the text input methods were collected for each of the smartphones, and analyzed. This research introduces an optimized technique to carry-out application specific test on smartphones. It is hoped that the thesis will be beneficial to smartphone battery manufacturers and developers of text input techniques on how to make users’ smartphone battery last longer.

Measurements of Energy Consumptions in Mobile Applications with respect to Quality of Experience / Measurements of Energy Consumptions in Mobile Applications with respect to Quality of Experience

Kumar, Kasireddy Sai Suren, Vardhan, Bojja Vishnu January 2012 (has links)
Nowadays, Third Generation (3G) mobile phones equipped with powerful hardware are becoming popular and dominating the market of cellular com-munication systems. Features such as music and video players, in-built Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, navigation maps, Internet connectivity and high resolution cameras has converted mobile phones into so called Smartphones. With the increase in applications and services, limitations on energy consumption are also increasing. Therefore, it is more im-portant for manufacturers to nd e ective means of increasing battery life of mobile phones, as the mobile device itself is energy consuming and longer operational times are demanded by customers. Good energy mangement in mobile phones requires a good understanding of the energy usage in mobile phones. To this end, this thesis report presents the results of power and energy consumption measurements conducted on available Smartphones. The services under investigation includes basic Smartphone functionalities and few Internet services are studied and conclusions were drawn. This paper presents a cost e ective methodology for reliable measurements of energy on Smartphones. It also examines the e ect of operating systems on en-ergy consumption in mobile phones and reports less energy consumption for Android supported phones. The energy consumption of these Smartphones with respect to various applications has been studied and related to Quality of Experience of users'. Based on the results conclusions were drawn. / This Thesis will serve as a guide to manufacturers and Users of smartphones while choosing smartphones and designing energy-efficient protocols. / +46 (0)723260656
