An investigation towards the need for a postgraduate qualification in the specialisation fields of Diagnostic Radiography at the CUT

Du Plessis, J., Friedrich-Nel, H.S., Van Tonder, S.P. January 2010 (has links)
Published Article / The current master's degree qualification in Diagnostic Radiography at the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) is research based and does seemingly not address the need for training in the specialisation fields of Diagnostic Radiography sufficiently. To address this problem, a needs assessment was conducted amongst qualified diagnostic radiographers in Bloemfontein and Kimberley by means of quantitative questionnaires, qualitative interviews and a focus group discussion. The main aim of the needs assessment was to determine the need for a postgraduate qualification for radiographers in the specialised fields. The possible structure of such a program and the preferred mode of delivery were also investigated. The results of the study emphasised the need for a structured postgraduate learning programme in the specialisation fields in Diagnostic Radiography in the region. Responding to this validated need for a structured postgraduate qualification at the CUT, the current master's degree was revised to accommodate the results of the study and it was proposed to the Professional Board for Radiography and Clinical Technology for approval.

Assessing the level of preparedness, preferences, and fears of first-year science students at the Central University of Technology, Free State

Matoti, S.N. January 2010 (has links)
Published Article / This exploratory and descriptive study examines the perceptions of first-year science students regarding their preparedness for the programme, their preferences and their fears as they embark on university education for the first time. A questionnaire was used to collect data from all the first year students enrolled in the programme in 2008. Seventy students answered the questionnaire from a class of 78. Both quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods were used to analyse and present data in the study. The results showed that students differed in their preparedness for the programme, their preferences regarding teaching methodologies, learning methods, and classroom climates, and the kinds of fear or apprehension about the programme and university education. Some recommendations regarding the teaching and learning of science are made.

The effect of avocado consumer preferences and behaviour on the global commercialization of new avocado horticultural intellectual property

Bekker, Theo Frederik 20 August 2012 (has links)
The study’s aim was to determine how consumers relate to specific factors that affect the way in which fruit is marketed in supermarkets. This might have an influence on effective commercialization of new intellectual property in the global avocado industry.

Mixed Network Clustering with Multiple Ground Stations and Nodes Preferences

Traore, Oumar, Gwanvoma, Stephen 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / This paper presents a method for managing a Mixed Network with multiple ground stations and Test Articles (TA) preferences. The main difference between a Ground Station (cellular) network and the over the horizon (ad-hoc) network is that the ad-hoc method has no fixed infrastructure. This paper presents the computation and performance of a clustering technique for mobile nodes within the simulated mixed network environment with multiple ground stations and users preferences for those ground stations. This includes organization for multiple ground stations and for TA's gravitating toward a ground station of their choice on the basis of service and performance.

What makes a hero : An investigation of players’ personality and their choice of hero class in a MOBA

Isaksson, Camilla, Bagstevold, Dennis January 2015 (has links)
This study investigates how a player’s personality type might affect a player’s choice of playable character class and, by extension, their playstyle in a MOBA game. 6014 participants completed a survey consisting of questions regarding most played character and their preferred character to play. Following this their personality types were set using the Big-Five personality type model. Results show several interesting correlations between a player’s choice of character class, player motivation, and personality traits. For instance, players most often playing the Support or Warrior hero class tend to score higher on agreeableness. Certain differences between male and female players are also noted.

UNIVERSITY STUDENT PREFERENCES FOR THERAPIST VARIABLES INFLUENCED BY STUDENT DEMOGRAPHICS AND PRIOR COUNSELING EXPERIENCES

Weber, Jennifer Ann 01 January 2007 (has links)
Research on psychotherapy has consistently revealed that a portion of the variance in positive outcomes can be explained by therapist variables. Examination of clients preferences for certain therapist characteristics has led to inconsistent results further complicated by differences in participant characteristics. This study on therapist characteristics examines relationships between student-preferred therapist characteristics and demographic information provided by participants in their survey responses. Therapist characteristics under investigation include counseling style and approach to treatment, level of experience and training, and demographic information. This study also validates an online survey as a quality method of investigating university students preferences for therapist characteristics through the use of a one-parameter Rasch Item Response Theory model of analysis. Results from this study suggest that the Web-based survey employed was a quality method of collecting data on student preferences for therapist characteristics. Results also indicate that student prefer a well educated therapist of advanced training who is a good listener, makes them feel comfortable and is nonjudgmental. Finally, results suggest that student preferences for certain therapist characteristics are influenced by student demographic information and previous counseling experiences.

HIERARCHICAL PREFERENCES AND CONSUMER CHOICE.

COURSEY, DON LAWTON. January 1982 (has links)
This study considers the problem of the consumer in light of work presented by classical economists who discussed consumption. Richer assumptions about the tasks of an individual consumer and technology of consumption activities are used to develop a static model of consumer behavior. This model is extended through the introduction of opponent-process theory to develop a dynamic model which includes habit formation. Particular emphasis is placed in Chapter 2 upon the psychological underpinnings of consumption activities and the allocation of time aspect of these activities. It is assumed that a consumption activity is defined as a production function combining commodity and time inputs to produce satisfaction. Chapter 3 presents the framework over which preferences about different activities are defined. Preference relationships are assumed to be rational, transitive, and constant over time and location. In addition, satiation in a particular consumption activity is assumed to exist and the ranking over satiation states is defined. Chapter 4 deals with the behavior of a time and income constrained consumer who seeks to choose an optimal bundle of commodity and time inputs over the ordered activity set. The solution to this problem is characterized by affordable allocation of resources from the highest ranked down to the lowest ranked activity. Comparative statics results associated with this solution are considered for non-labor income, wage rate, and price changes. It is shown that besides the production substitution effects brought about by changes in the wage rate and in commodity prices, the net effect of changes in economic variables is predominantly at the lower end of the preference ordering. Chapter 5 presents both a psychological version of opponent-process theory and an economic interpretation of this theory which is used to describe habit dynamics. Chapter 6 combines the static consumer problem and the dynamic description of activity productions under habit formation to present an extended problem of a dynamic consumer behavior.
