Le présent document porte sur les facteurs premiers se situant entre le plus petit et le plus grand, appelés les facteurs premiers milieux, ou encore les facteurs premiers β-positionnés. Il s'agit d'une version plus élaborée d'articles publiés ou en phase de publication. Le premier chapitre présente les notions préalables à la bonne compréhension de cet ouvrage. S'y retrouvent entre autres les notations utilisées tout au long du texte, qu'elles soient des notations de fonctions arithmétiques ou encore des notations asymptotiques. Certains résultats classiques de théorie des nombres, tels que la formule de sommation d'Abel, la formule de Mertens et les séries de Dirichlet, de même qu'une introduction à la théorie de l'équirépartition modulo 1, y sont également mentionnés. Le second chapitre porte sur des problèmes d'estimation de sommes ou de séries sur des entiers qui ont un nombre prédéterminé de facteurs premiers, que la multiplicité soit comptée ou non, mais qui possèdent également d'autres propriétés. Celles-ci portent sur la taille des facteurs premiers, et c'est pourquoi il est question d'entiers friables ainsi que d'entiers sans petits facteurs premiers. Dans le cas des entiers friables, l'un des résultats présentés est dû à Erdõs et Tenenbaum et a été démontré par la méthode du col. En ce qui a trait aux entiers sans petits facteurs premiers, les résultats énoncés sont ceux d'Alladi obtenus par la méthode de Selberg-Delange. Le troisième chapitre porte sur le premier résultat principal de ce document. Il s'agit de l'étude du comportement asymptotique du facteur premier β-positionné, plus particulièrement l'obtention d'une estimation pour la somme sur la réciproque de ce facteur premier. L'idée générale est de généraliser et d'améliorer la démarche utilisée précédemment par De Koninck et Luca dans le cas du facteur premier milieu grâce aux résultats d'Alladi, d'Erdõs et Tenenbaum présentés au deuxième chapitre. Un résultat en phase de publication, portant sur la distribution du facteur premier β-positionné, clos le chapitre. Le quatrième chapitre, quant à lui, présente le second résultat principal, à savoir l'étude asymptotique ainsi que l'obtention d'une estimation pour la somme sur la réciproque du facteur premier β-positionné dans le cas où la multiplicité de chacun des facteurs premiers est prise en considération. Bien que l'idée initiale soit similaire à celle du précédent chapitre, la résolution de ce problème est bien différente et permet d'obtenir une estimation beaucoup plus précise. Le chapitre se termine par la présentation d'une amélioration de cette méthode dans le cas de l'étude du comportement asymptotique de la somme sur la réciproque du facteur premier milieu avec multiplicité. / The aim of this thesis is the study of some sums of the prime factors that are between the smallest and the largest ones, called the middle prime factors. In particular, this is an extended version of published and prepublished articles on this subject. The first chapter develops all the preliminary notions necessary for the good understanding of this document. In particular, arithmetic and asymptotic notations are established. Moreover, some classical analytic number theory results, such as the Abel summation formula, Mertens' formula and Dirichlet series, and an introduction to the theory of uniform distribution mod 1 are mentioned. The second chapter is about some problems on the asymptotic behavior of sums and series of integers that have a given number of prime factors, with or without multiplicity, and that have other properties concerning their smallest and biggest prime factors. In the case of smooth numbers, one of the result was obtained by Erdõs and Tenenbaum by the use of the saddle-point method. For the integers without small prime factors, the results were obtained by Alladi by the use of the Selberg-Delange method. The third chapter exposes the first main result of this thesis, namely the study of the asymptotic behavior of the sum of the reciprocals of the β-positioned prime factors of the integers n ≤ x. The proofs improve and generalize previous work of De Koninck and Luca about the middle prime factor. This was possible by the use of Alladi's and Erdõs and Tenenbaum's results which are given in the second chapter. This third chapter ends with the study of the distribution of the β-positioned prime factor. The fourth chapter presents the second main result, which is about the study of the asymptotic behavior of the sum of the reciprocals of the β-positioned prime factors with multiplicity of the integers n ≤ x. The methods used are different from those in the third chapter and allow for much more precise estimates. Moreover, this chapter ends by showing that the proof can be improved in the case of the middle prime factor with multiplicity.

This thesis is a biography of Walter Scott, first Premier of Saskatchewan. He was a populist and had a vision for the new province, the fastest growing province in the Dominion. Agricultural and educational institutions were created to serve this growing population. Walter Scott combined his ability to collect strong people around him with his talent to sense the public mood. Scott was a newspaperman, entrepreneur, land speculator, and distributor of federal Liberal patronage in the North-West before being elected to the House of Commons in 1900. By 1905, Scott became leader of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party and Premier. Contrary to currently held beliefs, this thesis argues that the four months between when Scott became Premier and the first election, the government was neither restructured nor was it rife with patronage. This was a time for campaigning. The political machine was built much later. After the 1905 election, the Scott government embarked on a program to build the new province's infrastructuresuch as the Legislative Building and the University of Saskatchewan. For Scott and his government, agriculture was the vital component in the fabric of Saskatchewan life. By including farm leadership in cabinet and creating a political climate founded on agriculture, Walter Scott built a power base that withstood the United Farmers' Movement that unseated governments in neighbouring provinces. During the First World War, which created a climate of social change in Saskatchewan, the Scott Government banned the bar and established female suffrage. This thesis also examines when Walter Scott first exhibited signs of mental illness. His health became a primary focus as he searched for a cure for depression. It will be argued that it was the battle with Rev. Murdock MacKinnon over minority rights in the school system that brought Scott's mental health to the point that he had to resign. After his death, the memory of Walter Scott faded. Yet his legacy of democracy, education and agriculture continue until today. The fruits of Walter Scott's labours continue to be harvested in Saskatchewan but few remember who planted the original seeds.
