Creation and Testing of a Semi-Automated Digital Triage Process Model

Cantrell, Gary DeWayne 15 December 2012 (has links)
Digital forensics examiners have a growing problem caused by their own success. The need for digital forensics is increasing and so are the devices that need examining. Not only are the number of devices growing, but so is the amount of information those devices can hold. One result of this problem is a growing backlog that could soon overwhelm digital forensics labs across the country. One way to combat this growing problem is to use digital triage to find the most pertinent information first. Unfortunately, although several digital forensics models have been created, very few digital triage models have been developed. This results in most organizations, if they perform digital triage at all, performing digital triage in an untested ad hoc fashion that varies from office to office. This dissertation will contribute to digital forensics science by creating and testing a digital triage model. This model will be semi-automated to allow for the use by untrained users; it will be as operating system independent as possible; and it will allow the user to customize it based on a specific crime class or classes. The use of this model will decrease the amount of time it takes a digital triage examiner to make a successful assessment concerning evidence.

Preparing Young Children to Respond to Art in the Museum

Stewart, Nancy L. 03 November 2011 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis describes a research study which the Investigator prepared and documented. It involved two groups of five kindergarten children who were prepared by the Investigator to view one artwork in a museum. Children were prepared to view the artwork by exploring and solving open-ended design problems with large shapes, one-third the size of those in the artwork. The Investigator guided children to respond to the artwork through inquiry and discovery activities related to the artwork's specific characteristics. Findings revealed that kindergarten children enjoyed exploring large shapes and were capable of solving collaborative design problems with the shapes, which prepared them to respond to an artwork with similar shapes.

Recherche d'information dans les documents numériques : vers une variation des modalités d'exécution procédurale / Information retrieval in digital documents : a variation patterns of procedural execution

Djouani, Mohamed 05 December 2013 (has links)
The research activity of information on the internet has become common in our daily life. Despite this fact, it still raises many problems for the user who does not find the information they want or is lost to the amount of information available. This study aims at testing a new patented preview device, enabling users to browse and view pages in depth. The task is to find a target apartment with one or more specific criteria in a real estate agency designed website. Several conditions were tested. The “usual” condition with the classic search features, page by page, the other "transparent" condition which enables you to preview selected pages and select only relevant pages. We are interested in the implementation of cognitive processes to which is added the importance of maintaining the goal of research in working memory, and also in the concept of cognitive load invested in such activity. We use the technique of eye movements among others which determines how a user addresses and searches for information in a digital document. We also compare the performance of this device to a touch pad. The results show significant effects of such previewing device.
