Secure digital documents using Steganography and QR Code

Hassanein, Mohamed Sameh January 2014 (has links)
With the increasing use of the Internet several problems have arisen regarding the processing of electronic documents. These include content filtering, content retrieval/search. Moreover, document security has taken a centre stage including copyright protection, broadcast monitoring etc. There is an acute need of an effective tool which can find the identity, location and the time when the document was created so that it can be determined whether or not the contents of the document were tampered with after creation. Owing the sensitivity of the large amounts of data which is processed on a daily basis, verifying the authenticity and integrity of a document is more important now than it ever was. Unsurprisingly document authenticity verification has become the centre of attention in the world of research. Consequently, this research is concerned with creating a tool which deals with the above problem. This research proposes the use of a Quick Response Code as a message carrier for Text Key-print. The Text Key-print is a novel method which employs the basic element of the language (i.e. Characters of the alphabet) in order to achieve authenticity of electronic documents through the transformation of its physical structure into a logical structured relationship. The resultant dimensional matrix is then converted into a binary stream and encapsulated with a serial number or URL inside a Quick response Code (QR code) to form a digital fingerprint mark. For hiding a QR code, two image steganography techniques were developed based upon the spatial and the transform domains. In the spatial domain, three methods were proposed and implemented based on the least significant bit insertion technique and the use of pseudorandom number generator to scatter the message into a set of arbitrary pixels. These methods utilise the three colour channels in the images based on the RGB model based in order to embed one, two or three bits per the eight bit channel which results in three different hiding capacities. The second technique is an adaptive approach in transforming domain where a threshold value is calculated under a predefined location for embedding in order to identify the embedding strength of the embedding technique. The quality of the generated stego images was evaluated using both objective (PSNR) and Subjective (DSCQS) methods to ensure the reliability of our proposed methods. The experimental results revealed that PSNR is not a strong indicator of the perceived stego image quality, but not a bad interpreter also of the actual quality of stego images. Since the visual difference between the cover and the stego image must be absolutely imperceptible to the human visual system, it was logically convenient to ask human observers with different qualifications and experience in the field of image processing to evaluate the perceived quality of the cover and the stego image. Thus, the subjective responses were analysed using statistical measurements to describe the distribution of the scores given by the assessors. Thus, the proposed scheme presents an alternative approach to protect digital documents rather than the traditional techniques of digital signature and watermarking.

Paperspace : a novel approach to document management by combining paper and digital documents

Sallam, Samer 20 November 2006
Personal document management systems provide good support for storing and organizing digital documents. However, there are no computer tools that support organization of paper documents on our desks. We ran a study of people's organization of their office desk space with respect to their digital workspace. This study resulted in a set of requirements for a media bridging tool. Based on these requirements, we built a prototype media bridging tool called PaperSpace that uses computer vision to link paper and digital documents. The system also tracks piles of paper documents on the real desktop, and links those papers to digital documents stored in the computer. Digital documents can be sorted and grouped according to the physical layout of the corresponding papers on the desk. The system automatically creates digital piles of documents in a simulated desktop that reflect the paper piles on the real desktop. The user can access valuable information through the system, such as printing statistics, location of a printed document on the desk, and past projects and their documents. A two week user evaluation of the system showed interesting usage scenarios and future trends for improving user interaction.

Mécanismes et outils pour sécurisation de systèmes à accès distants : application aux systèmes de gestion électronique de documents / Mecanisms and tools to secure remote access systems

Risterucci, Gabriel 31 March 2016 (has links)
This thesis' goal is the improvement of the security of remotely accessed systems with the use of cryptographic tools. Specifically it is applied to digital documents management software that raise issues in three fields~: communication, authentication and rights management. Unlike common approaches that involve the use of individual protections for these three fields, we offer a set of tools made to work together to improve the system's security. Securing communication is done thanks to a new secure communication protocol designed for distributed applications. Authentication issues led to the development of two tailored solutions providing cryptographic support to the application for any authentication method. Rights management is handled through new associations between a given access right and specific cryptographic applications. A key element of those solutions is the emphasis put on the usability of these secure tools. It swayed the development of our proposals toward more transparent solutions that would not disturb the user experience. As a result, we obtained a secure system made of these tools and mechanisms that work together to provide full and transparent security for a digital documents management software. This security is fully based on cryptographic algorithms to provide provable and verifiable security properties. As a supporting layer for these mechanisms, a secure software library was designed to provide all the required tools for cryptographic uses in a portable way.

Dokumenthanteringen på kulturförvaltningen i Värnamo kommun : - en studie av personalens upplevelser / Document management at the cultural administration in Värnamo municipality : - a study of staff experience

Sjöström, Viktoria, Jonasson, Emelie January 2021 (has links)
This is a master thesis which is performed at the cultural administration in Värnamo municipality and where the purpose been that under april-may 2021 map how their document management looks by finding out the employees own experience of it.    Because of a unstructured document management we were commissioned to look at it from our point of view. How does the routines for document management at the cultural administration look like? What is saved and where? What problems are there? These are questions that we have brought up and answer in this report.    To know what the employees think about the document management we designed a both qualitative and quantitative survey which we sent out. We also performed semi-structured interviews with a few selected employees. We chose this way because we wanted to get as many opinions as possible.    Of the survey and interviews we could draw the conclusion that most of them think alike. Their shared server was unstructured, and the file archive in their intranet Nettan is hard to understand.    In the report we have a result summary of the interviews and the survey. Under result discussion we have our own suggestions on how the document management can be improved in the business.    At the end of the report we have a conclusion where we have included our purpose of the study, the issues, what we have reached and continued research within the area. / <p>Examen i vårdadministration, YH-utbildning: 20 Yh-poäng</p>

Preservação digital: autenticidade e integridade de documentos em bibliotecas digitais de teses e dissertações / Digital preservation: authenticity and integrity of documents in digital libraries of theses and dissertations.

Corrêa, Amarílis Montagnolli Gomes 09 September 2010 (has links)
Technological innovations raise a set of great challenges to the preservation of digital heritage. Besides assuring the longevity and accessibility of digital documents, it is also important to preserve their authenticity and integrity so one can trust and use digital documents as information source and study objects. Memory organizations must assume an active role in preserving their digital collections and building trusted digital repositories. This dissertation searches through an exploratory study to uncover the practices of the digital libraries of theses and dissertations of the three state universities of Sao Paulo (Universidade de São Paulo - USP, Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho - Unesp e Universidade Estadual de Campinas - Unicamp) for preserving the authenticity and integrity of their collections. Their preservation practices show that improvements need to be done so they can in fact take the responsibility of preserving digital heritage.

Supporting medication-related decision making with information model-based digital documents

Calabretto, Jean-Pierre January 2007 (has links)
Medication is vital in treating chronic disease. Increasing use of medication, however, can lead to (potentially preventable) medication-related adverse events. Medication management offers a means of addressing such adverse events and pharmacists have an important role in this solution, especially in terms of reviews of patient medication. Improved availability and sharing of patient-related information are critical factors in medication management, so that providing access to this information becomes a major factor in effective medication reviews. Although clinical decision support tools can significantly assist doctors in accessing relevant point-of-care information for greater patient safety, it has proven difficult to ensure the availability and appropriate structure of patient-related information for such support tools. These information access and input problems are further exacerbated by a lack of existing research into suitable decision support solutions for pharmacists. This research project explored the suitability of an essential information model to support an electronic document solution to support clinical documentation and allow effective communication between pharmacists and doctors for medication reviews. The project investigated whether this approach could improve safety, quality and efficiency in the medication review process; as well as more generally identifying factors influencing development and uptake of document-based support tools in the Health sector. The project used a qualitative Design Research approach and iterated through three scenarios. The first, information-rich, hospital scenario developed an information model of essential medication management components, which underpinned the development of a digital document prototype implemented using XForms technology. In the second scenario, accredited pharmacists evaluated the digital document to enable refinement of the information model and its associated digital document for the broader community context. The third scenario involved field studies which evaluated the digital document (and thus the underlying information model) within the community, assessing its contribution to quality, safety and efficiency throughout the medication review process. The investigation identified a number of themes which guided design and development of the prototype; and which appeared likely to have a broader impact on successful uptake of decision support tools. Missing information proved to be a constant and serious problem for health professionals although, in this project, it also became a way of determining the value of an information element and thus its inclusion in the information model. Conversation played a significant role in the hospital environment to help supply pharmacists information needs. Information granularity, the language of health professionals; and their time constraints were major factors influencing design. Health professionals extensive use of their personal knowledge also suggested decision support tools in this sector should be systems for experts rather than expert systems, i.e. the decision support tool and its users personal knowledge should complement one another. The results of this proof-of-concept project suggest practice improvement in medication management is possible, with perceived improvements in safety, quality and efficiency of the medication management process. These benefits, however, now need to be affirmed in larger field studies. The contributions of this research are two-fold: firstly, it is possible to develop a model of essential medication-related information which is succinct, relevant and can be understood and shared by health professionals in conjunction with the individuals personal knowledge. Secondly, a document metaphor is a natural fit with health professionals for representing and communicating information. Expressing this metaphor as digital document overcomes the main problems of paper-based documents sharing and communication; and the dynamic properties of digital documents assist in decision-making.

Recherche d'information dans les documents numériques : vers une variation des modalités d'exécution procédurale / Information retrieval in digital documents : a variation patterns of procedural execution

Djouani, Mohamed 05 December 2013 (has links)
The research activity of information on the internet has become common in our daily life. Despite this fact, it still raises many problems for the user who does not find the information they want or is lost to the amount of information available. This study aims at testing a new patented preview device, enabling users to browse and view pages in depth. The task is to find a target apartment with one or more specific criteria in a real estate agency designed website. Several conditions were tested. The “usual” condition with the classic search features, page by page, the other "transparent" condition which enables you to preview selected pages and select only relevant pages. We are interested in the implementation of cognitive processes to which is added the importance of maintaining the goal of research in working memory, and also in the concept of cognitive load invested in such activity. We use the technique of eye movements among others which determines how a user addresses and searches for information in a digital document. We also compare the performance of this device to a touch pad. The results show significant effects of such previewing device.

Acessibilidade em documentos digitais: uma possibilidade de democratizar a informação e o conhecimento na Unipampa / Accessibility in digital documents: a possibility to democratizate information and knowledge in Unipampa

Schmitz, Daniele dos Anjos 10 July 2017 (has links)
This study is linked to the research line Development of Educational Technologies in Network, of the Professional Master's Degree in Educational Technologies in Network of the Federal University of Santa Maria, started from the problem: How to support the teachers, servers and technical-administrative in education of the Federal University of Pampa (Unipampa) in the process of creating accessible digital documents? In view of this questioning, the objectives listed were: 1) to propose solutions to make documents more accessible, providing democratization of information and knowledge; 2) promote accessibility at Unipampa through accessible digital documents; 3) adapt the accessibility recommendations WCAG 2.0 and eMAG 3.1 to the evolution of the manual. In this way, this research developed a manual with orientations for the creation of accessible digital documents in the text editors Microsoft Word 2010 and LibreOffice Writer. Moreover, to execute this study, the theoretical reference has brought information related to the democratization of information and knowledge, accessibility, assistive technology, universal design, as well as guidelines and recommendations for accessibility. The methodological approach for this project involved applied research, with a qualitative and descriptive approach and in the investigative context the case study was used. For the data collection, an online questionnaire was used to identify the degree of knowledge of the servers for the creation of digital documents and the importance of having a manual of guidelines for the accessibility of digital documents. After analyzing these data, a market research was made to identify the existence of manuals that guide the accessibility of digital documents. In addition, an exploratory research it was made with the intention of identifying features and functionalities that allow accessibility in documents in text editors (Microsoft Word 2010 and LibreOffice Writer); the guidelines WGAC 2.0 and eMAG 3.1 were also explored for the definition of adaptations to digital contents. Following this research, the final product of this dissertation was developed, the Guidelines Manual for creation digital documents accessible in the text editors Microsoft Word 2010 and LibreOffice Writer. After the manual was developed, the evaluation stage was followed, in which the servers and a blind consultant tested the manual and answered a questionnaire indicating possible improvements. Then the adjustments were made according to the suggestions given, and a document was created based on the guidelines of the manual which was sent to the servers, students and consultants for them to do the validation, answering whether the document was accessible or not. The results pointed out that the manual is a way to contribute with the servers of the Unipampa in the process of creation accessible digital documents. However, the contributions of the product developed in this study depend on the will and the conscience of the people to continue create and make available more accessible documents, making them a means of democratizing information and knowledge.
