Analyse des mécanismes de destruction non-catalytique des Oxydes d’Azote (DeNOx) et application à la simulation aux grandes échelles (LES) d’un incinérateur / Analysis of Nitrous Oxides non-catalytic reduction and its application to the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of an incinerator

Farcy, Benjamin 19 March 2015 (has links)
To guarantee the reduction of pollutant emissions, the analysis of the Selective Non Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) of Nitrous Oxides (NOx) and its application to an industrial incinerator is carried out by numerical simulation. First, a reduced kinetic scheme is proposed for SNCR with ammonia. The process is analysed to determine the key parameters, such as mixing and temperature fluctuations, acting on NOx reduction. Then, a downsizing procedure is developed to enable the simulation of the full size real system. Afterwards, Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of the incinerator are performed, including multicomponent evaporation, to appreciate the DeNOx efficiency. Optimization techniques are suggested and evaluated to strengthen the NOx reduction. Finally, a low order model of the incinerator response is proposed, thus enabling its use in an active process control loop.

Reforming civil procedure : trends in continental europe and england and wales

Coetsee, Anlu Renette January 2019 (has links)
This research involves the timeless question regarding the effective improvement of access to justice. The problems pertaining to access to justice, especially in respect of litigation, have been experienced and exposed in several jurisdictions across the world and has become known as the battle against costs, delays and complexities. The goal shared by most jurisdictions is to give all individuals the right to have his or her legal dispute resolved by a judicial entity at a proportionate cost and in a reasonable time. South African authors have made several suggestions in respect of reforming civil procedure in order to combat the problems identified above, to reduce the backlog in our courts and, ultimately, to enhance access to justice for all. This research aims to find solutions by investigating different categories of civil procedural reform and by identifying which categories could serve as beneficial and prospective reforms for South African civil procedure. Accordingly, trends in civil procedural reform in Continental Europe and England will be investigated. Three countries have been identified for comparative analysis: England, the Netherlands and Belgium. Within each of these countries two trends have been identified, namely (1) case management, pretrial protocols and the distribution of powers between parties and judges; and (2) digitalisation, modernisation and computerization of procedural rules. A chapter will be allocated to each trend, briefly describing the manner in which the procedure functions and its recent development, comparing and contrasting the situation with the South African position. In conclusion, it will be considered in what way South African jurisprudence could benefit from the comparative analysis and identified reforms. The new developments in South African civil procedure relating to the specific categories of trends will further be investigated and discussed. / Mini-Dissertation (LLM)--University of Pretoria, 2019. / Procedural Law / LLM / Restricted

An Analysis of a Set of Medical Data Using the Bootstrap Procedure

Tawfik, Lorraine 06 1900 (has links)
The efficacies of two anti-inflammatory drugs in ankylosing spondylitis and related complaints were studied at a single medical clinic over a period of twenty-eight weeks. The purposes of this project were: (1) -To determine .any significant differences within and between the two drug groups using well-known nonparametric procedures, and (2) To illustrate the use of the bootstrap method and determine whether it is appropriate and useful for this data set. Some statistically significant changes indicative of improvement occurred among both groups of patients for primary efficacy variables. No definite trend was found for most of the laboratory variables. Both drugs demonstrated effective pain relief. Regarding the variables of day and night pain relief as well as pulse, the Experimental Drug proved to be clinically but not statistically superior to the other commonly used drug. Analyses of safety data indicated some statistically significant changes in both drug groups. There was a statistically significant difference between drug groups at baseline. / Thesis / Master of Science (MS)
