This report covers a product development project conducted as Bachelor of Science thesis forthe Innovation & design engineer program at Karlstad University. The assignment was supplied by MMB Consulting, Kristinehamn. The purpose of this projectwas to find an alternative way of shaping wire-net insulation mats. This insulation product isused for fire and thermal insulation of technical installations. The insulation consists of stoneor glass wool with a sewn on steel wire netting on the out facing side. This netting has thepurpose to enable fastening to e.g. ventilation ducts and to provide bounding of joints. Thiswire netting makes regular methods for fitting stone or glass wool non applicable. Theexisting method for shaping wire-net insulation has flaws due to not being designed for thisapplication. These flaws include poor ergonomics, efficiency and low result quality. The objectives with this project is to find a new method that makes fitting of wire-netinsulation more efficient and safer for the user regarding personal safety and ergonomics. The work has been conducted according to the methods of the industrial product developmentprocess and the design methodology. The project resulted in a motor driven tool for shaping wire-net insulation that according to atheoretical foundation has proven to be more user adapted through being designed for goodergonomics and by offering a simpler handling. This solution is also considered to be moreefficient and to give better results than the present solution. Some correlation betweenreductions in energy losses from technical installations and the new method is detectable.

Designstudie CamCoil : Inkåpning av haspelsystem / Redesign CamCoil : Housing for reeling systemBjörkdahl, Mikael January 2013 (has links)
The project has been carried out as a bachelor thesis in the Innovation and Design Engineering Programme at Karlstad University. For this project, Lennart Wihk has been the supervisor and Professor Leo de Vin acted as examiner. The task has been to conduct a design study on CamCoil, a reeling system for strip steel in the manufacturing industry. The reason for this is that the principal, Camatec Industriteknik AB, would like this machine to be made more competitive in the european market. The goal is to create a unique and brand specific concept solution compatible with the many different options of the reeling system. Mikael Hallenborg acted as supervisor from the client. The study has been conducted on the product development process. The implementation phase consists of an initial functional analysis, interviews with customers and product specialists, an investigation into the Machinery Directive for the opportunity to CE mark the housing as a security feature. The concept is also studied on the semantic correlations between CamCoil and the housing. The result culminated into a solid concept database as the client requested. One of the proposals was selected for further development. The conclusion of the project resulted in a concept that responds to the question: "How should a housing be designed to tell of its brand, and make the work environment safer for an operator without limiting the reel systems features? “. This resulted in a saftey feature compatible with different configurations of the machine and with a major focus on defining the product profile.

Utformning av företagsentré som speglar Autofrics kompetens och värden / Design of a factory entrance that shows Autofric's competence and valuesHenriksson, Jessica January 2018 (has links)
This report describes a Project for Degree of Bachelor of Science in Innovation and Design Engineering, performed at Karlstad´s university. The purpose of the project has been to come up with a proposal of an entrance for an industrial enterprise. The company is Autofric AB in Hagfors, which produces spirals and spiral conveyers. They used to have a canopy which had to be taken down. The entrance should show the spirit of the company and express quality, and the company also want to fabricate it with their own machines and materials as far as it is possible. Because of this, several examples of how to use the spirals in the entrance has been developed during this project. The focus in this project has been on the design of a shell which will become the gestalt. The company will take care of construction for strength. The entrance has been analyzed considering semantics, some laws for construction and some theory of design. The project has followed the product development process and it has taken advantage of the strength of models as a visual tool. A collection of cardboard sketches, that grew bigger and bigger during the project, many good advices from an architect and the company´s opinions led to a proposal that fulfills the requirements and requests and gives a solution to the problem. It resulted in a canopy, shaped as a half moon, resting on two pillars. The cross section of the pillars is inspired by some of the machines the company manufactures. An illuminated logotype is integrated in the frontage of the canopy. The entrance can be manufactured mainly by the machines and materials available at the company.
