Radio astronomy depends on a radio frequency quiet area. The remote mountain top is ideal for such a radio astronomy array. However, RFI from equipment inside one type of antenna had a path loss of 13 dB to its feed area, when measured at 100 GHz. Carbon filled foam is being used to enhance shielding to reduce the negative effect of local radio frequency interference (RFI). This foam has been measured and verified to be effective from 1 to 100 GHz.

Data shows that elderly people are more likely to live alone than younger people, meanwhile the percentage of elderly people with disabilities increases significantly with age. These trends and facts bring a number of issues. One of these we would like to solve is that it is difficult and dangerous for them to lift the heavy loads through ladder. Sometimes it is also very dangerous for normal people, not to mention to people with reduced mobility. In order to solve these issues and reduce the possibility of accident, we have come up with a new ladder used for attics that can transport the heavy loads automatically. As transmission part we use a rack and pinion mechanism to achieve a smooth transport and a ratchet mechanism for stopper to avoid sudden accident drops. The ladder also can be hidden when not using it.

Based on the evaluation of selected criteria, more useful version was chosen. The final part is devoted to the economic evaluation of its realization.

Previous issue date: 2015-04-14 / The Distribution Centers (DC) has embarked on a major role in the supply chain, to
the extent that manage much of logistics that is implemented and controls the
storage from its origin to its final point. Among the processes of a CD, is the shipment
of product for subsequent separation. Distribution Centers implement the fractional
separation (rack flow) have constantly problems conference output products, waste
and increasing the quality of decreasing process. This work aims to analyze the
quality of separation and inspection of rack flow of products on a CD in order to
ensure the quality of delivery to the final consumer. One high error rate in the
separation process and also inspection of products and proposed an alternative in
the inspection process was detected for identify errors and correct them. The results
showed that the proposed process and analyzed, based on a precision scale,
decreased the return of errors and identified the inspection errors in order to
practically zeroing them. In addition, based on the results, analyzed and proposed a
modification of the separation process. / Os Centros de Distribuição (CD) vem empenhando um papel importante na cadeia
de suprimentos, na medida que gerenciam grande parte de logística que é
implementada e controla o armazenamento desde sua origem até ao seu ponto final.
Dentre os processos de um CD, encontra-se o de separação de produtos para
posterior expedição. Centros de Distribuição que implementam a separação
fracionada (flow rack) apresentam, constantemente, problemas de conferência de
produtos de saída, aumentando o desperdício e dminuindo a qualidade do processo.
Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a qualidade da separação e inspeção dos
produtos do flow rack em um CD, a fim de garantir a qualidade da entrega para o
consumidor final. Foi detectado um alta taxa de erros no processo de separação e
também de inspeção dos produtos e proposta uma alternativa no processo de
inspeção para indentificar os erros e corrigi-los. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram
que o processo proposto e analisado, baseado em uma balança de precisão,
diminuiram os erros de devolução e identificaram os erros de inspeção de forma a
praticamente a zerá-los. Além disto, baseados nos resultados, analisada e proposta
uma modificação do processo de separação.

Le résultat principal de cette thèse est une solution locale du problème des coquecigrues. Par problème des coquecigrues, nous parlons du problème d'intégration des algèbres de Leibniz. Cette question consiste à trouver une généralisation du troisième théorème de Lie pour les algèbres de Leibniz. Ce théorème établit que pour toute algèbre de Lie g, il existe un groupe de Lie G dont l'espace tangent en 1 est muni d'une structure d'algèbre de Lie isomorphe à g. La sructure d'algèbre de Leibniz généralise celle d'algèbre de Lie, nous cherchons donc une structure algébrique généralisant celle de groupe et répondant à la même question. Nous résolvons ce prob- lème en intégrant localement toute algèbre de Leibniz en un rack de Lie augmenté local. Un rack de Lie étant une variété munie d'un produit satisfaisant plusieurs axiomes qui généralisent des propriétés de la conjugaison dans un groupe. En particulier, ce produit est autodistributif. Notre approche de ce problème est basée sur une preuve donnée par E.Cartan dans le cas des groupes et algèbres de Lie, et consiste à associer à toute algèbres de Leibniz une extension abélienne d'une algèbre de Lie par un module antisymétrique. Cette extension est caractérisée par une classe dans le second groupe de cohomologie de Leibniz, et nous associons à tous représentant de cette classe un cocyle de rack de Lie local qui nous permet de construire un rack de Lie augmenté local répondant au problème. Pour construire ce cocycle, nous généralisons une méthode d'intégration d'un cocycle d'algèbre de Lie en cocycle de groupe de Lie due à W.T.Van Est.

Evaluation of Bar Rack Designs to Allow for the Downstream Passage of Silver American Eels at Hydropower FacilitiesMelong, Tresha K 27 January 2014 (has links)
Concerns regarding the decreasing population of the American eel (reported by Castonguay et al. 1994; Haro et al. 2000) have led to design restrictions for hydropower facilities in the Eastern United States. However, the effects of these restrictions on eel passage and their impacts on power generation have not been fully researched. The goal of this study was to evaluate design parameters for bar racks that have potential to prevent entrainment of silver American eels, but also have minimal impacts on power generation. Hydraulic and biological assessments were used to determine the role of bar spacing, rack angle, and approach velocity on head loss across bar racks and the effects of bar spacing and approach velocity on eel bypass efficiency. The hydraulic assessments included computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses and laboratory experiments conducted in a re-circulatory flume at Alden Research Laboratory (Alden) in Holden MA. The flume allowed for determination of head losses across bar racks placed at angles of 45 and 90 degrees to the flow direction, with bar spacings of 0.75, 1.0 and 1.5 inches (19, 25 and 38 mm) and approach velocities of 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 ft/sec (0.46, 0.61 and 0.76 m/s). Biological assessment, supported by funding from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), used the same flume and included experiments with a 90 degree rack angle, bar spacings of 0.75 and 1.0 inches (19 and 25 mm), and approach velocities of 1.5 and 2.0 ft/sec (0.46 and 0.61 m/s). Bypass efficiencies, defined by the percentage of eels moving through the bypass, were evaluated for eels using three 2-hour replicate trials with nighttime releases of 30 eels per trial. Eel behavior in the vicinity of the racks was observed to the extent possible using a DIDSON acoustic camera. Experiments for the 90 degree configuration showed that the guidance efficiencies for the 0.75 inch (19 mm) spacing were greater than those for the 1.0 inch (25 mm) spacing, while the head losses for the 0.75 inch (19 mm) spacing exceeded the head losses for the 1.0 inch (25 mm) spacing by more than 10 percent. Linear regression analysis indicated that 53 percent of the variations in head width are explained by changes in the length of the eel. Results of the hydraulic evaluations were used to develop a new head loss equation that has a correlation coefficient of 98.6 percent. The results of the hydraulic and biological assessments provide a basis for quantifying the impacts of bar rack design on hydropower operation and downstream passage for American eels.
