This diploma thesis deals with the transport of dangerous goods by rail in order to present and map this issue. Carriage of such cargo poses a threat to persons, animals, property and the environment, therefore it folllows the special rules established in the international agreement RID. The emphasis is placed on its analysis and subsequent application of acquired theoretical knowledge to a practical example of transport of dangerous flammable and toxic substances to the East European country.

The aim of the thesis Impact of rail transport on tourism development in the Czech Republic is the analysis of correlation between rail transport and tourism in the Czech Republic with reference to global trends in this field and proposition of appropriate steps to deeper and more effective cooperation. The first chapter is devoted to definition of rail transport, history of rail transport in the Czech Republic, characterization of the current state of railways in the Czech Republic, position of rail transport on the Czech transport market and use of rail transport in tourism. Second chapter concentrates on analysis of three chosen tourist destinations in terms of the availability of rail. In the last chapter overall situation in this field is analyzed and suggestions for the further development are given.

The main objective is to prove the increasing trend of increasing volume of shipments, respectively the number of trains dispatched from Asia to the European Union (Westbound), respectively from the European Union to Asia (Eastbound). The first chapter is devoted to describing the history of the Trans-Siberian Railway. In the second part is the creation of a common CIM / SMGS and organization OSŽD. In the third chapter are described rail corridors from Asia to the EU, respectively from the EU to Asia. A final fourth chapter is practical analysis of rail transport on the basis of documents of companies that use these rail corridors.

This thesis addresses various concerns of maritime and rail transport of goods between East Asia and the Czech Republic. Its conceptual part outlines the present situation of sea freight transportation with the emphasis on the container use. Furthermore, the thesis describes the rail infrastructure between East Asia and Europe. In the how-to part, the author describes working procedures of an actual freight forwarding company carrying out an import shipment from China into the Czech Republic, utilising ocean and rail carriers. The last part of the thesis contains a summary of the main differences when employing various types of transport, and of their comparison based on the time of the shipment and on its cost.

In order to reform the monopoly structure of the railway sector in the Czech Republic the railway operation was separated from railway infrastructure. Despite the mentioned organization reform current intensity of rivalry of the competition in the passenger rail transport segment stays considerably limited and high subsidy demands are made to ensure the public rail transport operation. This thesis analyses funding of the passenger rail transport and tries to discover the causes of high subsidy demands. It also tries to quantify potential savings of the public funds that are provided to operate long-distance passenger rail transport.

The thesis deals with the situation in public transport on public personal transport service between Prague and Brno. In the thesis, it is analysed the current situation between Prague – Brno from the technical and economic point of view. There is a public rail transport subsidized by Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic through payment of provable financial losses and private public coach services operated by private carriers on their own business risk. In the context of the current situation, the thesis suggests the focus of the basic parameters for a balanced assessment of the competitive environment for further development of passenger transport (rail, road) with regard to the existing demand and socio-economic aspects in the region.

O expressivo crescimento do setor ferroviário com o processo de privatizações das operações a partir de 1996, fez com que a modalidade aumentasse sua participação na matriz de transportes brasileira. Porém, essa expansão, obtida essencialmente com a substituição e aumento de locomotivas e vagões, juntamente com a modernização do sistema de controle de tráfego, deverá em breve encontrar limites impostos pela geometria e superestrutura da malha ferroviária. O objetivo da dissertação é analisar como esses fatores afetam a capacidade de processamento de trens através de uma linha ferroviária singela. Para alcançar este objetivo desenvolveu-se um modelo capaz de identificar as características da via que restringem as velocidades e o headway das composições ferroviárias. O modelo proposto permite, através da análise de desempenho em cada um dos arcos de um trecho de linha ferroviária, obter uma medida de desempenho global no trecho e identificar os gargalos. O método adotado para determinar a capacidade do trecho para cenários operacionais alternativos é o da utilização de diagramas espaço-tempo. Os diagramas espaço-tempo são elaborados através de um algoritmo em MatLab que soluciona os conflitos nos cruzamentos para um determinado tempo de cruzamento nas estações e efetua a contagem de pares de trens. O desempenho dos trens em cada um dos arcos, dado de entrada do algoritmo, é adquirido através de um modelo de simulação de desempenho de trens elaborado pela Association of Amerian Railroads (AAR). Como aplicação prática apresenta-se uma análise de capacidade para um dos principais corredores de exportação, um trecho da Brasil Ferrovias S.A. entre as cidades de Santa Fé do Sul e Araraquara no estado de São Paulo. A análise dos resultados mostra que o principal fator limitante da velocidade média no espaço dos trens é a atual condição da superestrutura ferroviária e que, uma vez eliminada esta restrição, a supressão de passagens de nível e a relocação de estações de cruzamento, produzem ganhos expressivos. / The expessive growth of the railway sector due to the privatization of the operations since 1996, is increasing the participation of this mode in the brazilian transport matrix. However, this growth is obtained mainly from the replacement and increase of the rolling stock and the modernization of the traffic control system, and will soon reach some important limits imposed by the railway geometry and superstructure. The thesis objective is to analyze how these factors affect the capacity to process trains through a single track railroad line. To reach this objective, a model that identifies the restrictions that impose limits to the speed and headways of the trains was developed. Through the performance analysis on each arc of a railway segment, the model obtains a global performance measure for the whole segment and identifies the bottlenecks. Time-space graphs are developed to determine the capacity of the segment for different operating scenarios. To build the space-time graphs, solve the conflicts at the crossings for a given time to cross and count the trains per day, an algorithm using the MathLab software was developed. The train performance on each arc is obtained through a simulation model developed by the Association of American Railroads (AAR). As a practical application, a capacity analysis of one of the most important export corridors is presented, a segment of the Brasil Ferrovias S.A. network between the cities of Santa Fé do Sul and Araraquara in the state of São Paulo. The analysis of the results shows that the present railway superstructure condition is the main train average space speed limiting factor and, once this restriction is eliminated, the supression of at grade crossings and the relocation of the crossing stations produce expressive gains.

Esse trabalho analisa a trajetória do Tramway da Cantareira em sua relação com o desenvolvimento das regiões atendidas por seus ramais, notadamente a zona norte do município de São Paulo e Guarulhos, tendo como recorte temporal os anos de 1893 a 1965, período de funcionamento dessa linha férrea. Para isso, além da bibliografia pertinente acerca do assunto, utiliza como fonte de pesquisa amplo conjunto documental de cunho arquivístico e, de forma complementar, periódicos que circulavam na época. Subdividida em quatro capítulos, esta tese analisa inicialmente a crise de gestão dos recursos hídricos na capital de São Paulo na segunda metade do século XIX com vistas a compreender as razões de o governo estadual ter iniciado a construção do Tramway da Cantareira. Em seguida, estuda os primeiros anos de funcionamento da ferrovia, momento no qual ela presta importante contribuição nas obras de infraestrutura da capital, com destaque para aquelas relacionadas ao abastecimento de água e saneamento básico. Uma vez analisada a história de seus anos iniciais, o trabalho busca compreender a percepção que a população, a imprensa e o governo tinham em relação aos seus serviços, examinando os projetos que previam desde o seu arrendamento à iniciativa privada até a sua extensão para além dos municípios de São Paulo e Guarulhos, em uma fase na qual o transporte de passageiros já se tornava a sua principal atividade. Por fim, examina o processo de anexação dessa linha férrea à Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana até o momento de sua desativação, em 1965. / This study analyzes the trajectory of the Cantareira Tramway in its relation with the development of the regions served by its branches, notably the northern part of the municipality of São Paulo and Guarulhos, focusing in the years from 1893 to 1965, period of operation of the railroad. To this end, besides the pertinent bibliography on the subject, this study uses as a research source a large set of archival documents complemented by periodicals circulating at the time. Subdivided into four chapters, this thesis initially analyzes the crisis of water resources management in the capital of São Paulo in the second half of the 19th century, in order to understand the reasons why the state government started the construction of the Cantareira Tramway. Subsequently, it studies the first years of the railway operation, when it makes an important contribution to the infrastructure works of the capital, especially those related to water supply and basic sanitation. Once the history of its initial years is analyzed, this study tries to understand the perception that the population, the press and the government had concerning the Cantareira Tramway services, examining the projects it predicted from its lease to the private sector until its extension beyond the municipalities of São Paulo and Guarulhos, in a period where transportation of passengers was already its main activity. Finally, it examines the annexation process of this railway to the Sorocabana Railroad until it was decommissioned in 1965.
