A proposta metodológica procura integrar a formação intelectual, a trajetória profissional e a obra como etapas necessárias de uma sociologia das idéias. Interpreta-se a trajetória profissional e intelectual de Rebouças à luz de contextos sociais e políticos distintos: durante a primeira metade da década de 1860, Rebouças completou sua formação intelectual nos quadros da burocracia militar, na condição de tenente-engenheiro, absorvendo da Escola Militar a crítica fomentada pelo oficialato às instituições imperiais; durante as décadas de 1860 e 1870, participou, na qualidade de engenheiro civil, ativamente do processo de modernização material do Segundo Reinado, inserido na burocracia de Estado mas ao mesmo tempo buscando formas associativas que fugissem à centralização estatal; na década de 1880, projeta se enquanto reformista social, visando articular o movimento abolicionista a projetos de reforma do estatuto territorial. Nesse sentido, a hipótese do trabalho é a de que a diferença entre as perspectivas modernista e reformista pode ser explicada recorrendo-se ao contexto de crise da sociedade escravista e das instituições monárquicas / Abstract: The aim of this work is to analyse the signification of the engineer André Rebouças' ideas (1838-1898). In this way, the metodological proposal seek to integrate his intellectual formation, his professional trajectory and his work as necessaries stages of a sociology of ideas. I explain his professional and intellectual trajectory by unequal social and political contexts: during the first half of 1860 decade, Rebouças completed his intellectual formation in military bureaucracy, as a lieutenant-engineer, feelling and shareing whit enthusiasm the critic of monarchyst's institutions fomented by the military officer; during the 1860 and 1870 decades, he participated activelly, as a civil engineer, of the Second Reign modernization process, inserted in the State bureaucracy, but seeking associated forms who get out of the centralization of the brazilian state; during the 1880 decade, he projected him self as a social reformist, in the aim to articulate both abolitionist and land propriety reform movements. In this way, this work assuption is that the difference of the modernist and reformist perspectives can be eXplained in the search of the slavery society and monarchyst's institutions' crisis / Doutorado / Doutor em Ciências Sociais

“The children think that if their parents manage to live like this, they can too.” : Children´s learning difficulties in Banco da Vitória/Ilhéus, Brazil.

Many scholars have argued that the education system in Brazil tends to strengthen the pattern that reproduces inequalities, where families with higher income are likely to be the ones holding the majority in education in Brazil. The focus lies in ten interviewees, thereof five parents/caregivers and five professionals that works/worked with the children who were interviewed in Banco da Vitória /Ilhéus, south of Bahia, Brazil 2012. This qualitative study intends to analyse the underlying social causes from a sociological perspective in how the informants reflect upon the child´s/children learning difficulties at the elementary school, Casa da Criança /Escola Daniel Rebouças in the shantytown Banco da Vitória. It will try to answer questions such as; which are the main social causes that affect a child´s learning difficulties in Escola Daniel Rebouças, according to the informants/interviewees? How has the informant´s situation affected their own perception in the child´s/children’s learning difficulties? This paper studies marginalised people who lives in a marginalised district, Banco da Vitória. It will highlight home environment and education to show a continuing pattern that causes the child´s/children´s learning difficulties. This study will demonstrate the necessary cooperation between the school, government, teachers, and parents/caregiver in order to improve the children´s education and well-being.

Seu objetivo principal era a aplicação dos conhecimentos científicos e técnicos na atividade produtiva, buscando a sua maior racionalização com a finalidade da promoção do progresso econômico. Entre seus membros mais ativos estavam profissionais com formação em cursos de ciências naturais, matemática, física, médicos e engenheiros. A influência da economia política nas propostas de reformas socioeconômicas de alguns desses membros é o tema principal desse trabalho. O período a partir de 1850 é de grande importância, pois com a disponibilização do dinheiro antes utilizado no tráfico de escravos, abriu-se a possibilidade de dar maior ênfase às propostas de reformas socioeconômicas. A corrente de pensamento da economia política que teve maior influência aqui foi a de um grupo francês que se caracterizava pelo liberalismo econômico, que se preocupava com a formação de uma sociedade baseada na economia de mercado. Destacamos André Rebouças neste trabalho e fazemos um estudo mais aprofundado da influência da economia política em suas propostas reformistas, por ser ele, não só um dos membros mais ativos e identificados com os objetivos modernizantes da Auxiliadora, mas também por demonstrar maior conhecimento das ideias dos economistas políticos aqui referidos / Abstract: The Sociedade Auxiliadora da Indústria Nacional was one institution whose existence went through the entire period of imperial Brazil, from 1927 until 1892. Its main purpose was the application of scientific knowledge in the productive activity seeking its greater rationalization whose goal was the promotion of economic progress. Among its most active members were professionals with courses in natural sciences, physics, mathematics, doctors and engineers. The influence of political economy in the reform proposals of these members is the main theme of this work. Considering the limitations imposed by the slave order, it was precisely in the period from 1850, with the provision of the money before used in the slave trade, which opened-up the possibility of considering reforms that, through the instrumentalization of political economy ideas, would make possible de dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge and its application in economic activity. The economic thinking that had influence here was of a French group of political economists which was characterized by defending the economic liberalism, and was concerned with the formation of a market society We highlight André Rebouças in this work and make a further study of the influence of the political economy in his reform proposals, because he is not only one of the most active members and identified with the Auxiliadora¿s modernizing goals, but also because he demonstrated greater knowledge of the ideas of the political economists refered to herein / Doutorado / Historia Economica / Doutor em Desenvolvimento Economico
