Nomadic Computing : Security assessment of remote access to workplace systems

Karlsson, Johanna January 2003 (has links)
Nomadic computing is about communication on an anytime anywhere basis. Security in this area is today not high enough and at the same time nomadic computing is increasing. In this thesis, security in the area of nomadic computing and remote access to company systems is assessed. The purpose is to investigate the security in this area today but also in the future in order to answer the main question of how and when secure nomadic computing can be offered. For this purpose a futuristic scenario has been used as a method to identify challenges within nomadic computing. After looking at the state of the art of wireless communication and security techniques, evaluating the focused techniques and looking at future trends, some preliminary conclusions could be made. A model of technology uptake has been used. The main concept of the model is to show that the uptake is depending on a co-evolution between different parts and not only the technique. One conclusion is therefore that the users must have confidence in the technique, but also in the organisation and the organisational use of the technique or else they will not use it. Security is important in order to create this trust and is thus of decisive importance to the technology uptake. Another conclusion is that the three focused techniques; rule-based access, authentication and policy/contract can be used today, but also in the future to increase the security for remote access. Finally, education and user awareness seems to be important in the future, even though the users interact less in the security management.

Outsoursing účetnictví / Accounting Outsourcing

Kubiš, Tomáš January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe the process of outsourcing of accounting from the initial steps, when the companies decide whether to use the outsourcing of accounting, through collaboration with the outsourcing provider to the eventual termination of cooperation. In the practical part you can find the description of the selected companies using information technology to provide outsourcing of accounting, that enables the most efficient course of action.

Remote access capability embedded in linked data using bi-directional transformation: issues and simulation

Malik, K.R., Farhan, M., Habib, M.A., Khalid, S., Ahmad, M., Ghafir, Ibrahim 24 January 2020 (has links)
No / Many datasets are available in the form of conventional databases, or simplified comma separated values. The machines do not adequately handle these types of unstructured data. There are compatibility issues as well, which are not addressed well to manage the transformation. The literature describes several rigid techniques that do the transformation from unstructured or conventional data sources to Resource Description Framework (RDF) with data loss and limited customization. These techniques do not present any remote way that helps to avoid compatibility issues among these data forms simultaneous utilization. In this article, a new approach has been introduced that allows data mapping. This mapping can be used to understand their differences at the level of data representations. The mapping is done using Extensible Markup Language (XML) based data structures as intermediate data presenter. This approach also allows bi-directional data transformation from conventional data format and RDF without data loss and with improved remote availability of data. This is a solution to the issue concerning update when dealing with any change in the remote environment for the data. Thus, traditional systems can easily be transformed into Semantic Web-based system. The same is true when transforming data back to conventional data format, i.e. Database (DB). This bidirectional transformation results in no data loss, which creates compatibility between both traditional and semantic form of data. It will allow applying inference and reasoning on conventional systems. The census un-employment dataset is used which is being collected from US different states. Remote bi-directional transformation is mapped on the dataset and developed linkage using relationships between data elements. This approach will help to handle both types of data formats to co-exist at the same time, which will create opportunities for data compatibility, statistical powers and inference on linked data found in remote areas.

Routing and Network Design in Delay Tolerant Networks

Zhao, Wenrui 11 October 2006 (has links)
Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) are a class of emerging networks that exhibit significantly different characteristics from today's Internet, such as intermittent connectivity, large delay, and high loss rates. DTNs have important applications in disaster relief, military, rural Internet access, environmental sensing and surveillance, interplanetary communication, underwater sensing, and vehicular communication. While not the common case for networking, DTNs represent some of the most critical cases, where the ability to communicate can make a huge difference for human lives. Supporting effective communication in DTNs, however, is challenging. First, with intermittent connectivity, DTNs are often extremely limited in capacity. Second, given resource limitations and uncertainty in DTNs, it is critical to deliver data efficiently and robustly. The situation is especially acute for multicast which sends data to multiple destinations. This thesis seeks to address these two issues. To enhance network capacity in DTNs, we propose a message ferrying scheme that exploits the use of special mobile nodes (called message ferries) and controlled device mobility to deliver data. Message ferries are utilized to transport data via mobility between sources and destinations. We develop a foundation for the control of the mobility of message ferries, and nodes if possible, to cooperatively deliver data under a variety of conditions. We also study another approach which deploys new nodes called throwboxes to enhance capacity. Throwboxes are small and inexpensive wireless devices. By relaying data between mobile nodes, throwboxes are able to create data transfer opportunities that otherwise would not exist. We systematically investigate the issues of deployment and routing, and develop algorithms for various deployment and routing approaches. Based on extensive evaluation, we obtain several findings to guide the design and operation of throwbox-augmented DTNs. To address the issue of efficient and robust data delivery, we focus on DTN multicasting. Given the unique characteristics of DTNs, traditional solutions such as IP multicast can not be simply ported to DTNs. We identify the limitations of IP multicast semantics in DTNs and define new semantic models for DTN multicast. Based on these semantic models, we develop and evaluate several multicast routing algorithms with different routing strategies.
