The topic of this thesis is the theater play „Mary Stuart“ written by F. Schiller. Theoretical part is divided into four chapters. First chapter briefly describes the life of author and his body of work. The second chapter analyzes his play “Mary Stuart”. The third chapter describes three contemporary theater productions of plays dating to the Renaissance period with focus on costume design. The fourth chapter deals with Renaissance in Europe and clothing of that period. The practical part presents the costume design itself for the play Mary Stuart. An analysis of scenes and figures of the play is carried out and the process and artistic decisions made during the design of costumes is described. The practical part closes off with sketches and pictures of the final costume design.

Jakob Steinhardt (1887 - 1968) has been ranked among the most significant German-Jewish artists of the 20th century. He became famous for his woodcuts depicting Jewish motives such as his Pessach-Haggada. He was also an important representative of the so-called Jewish Renaissance. The aim of this thesis is to present his persona in the context of German-Jewish history in the first three decades of the 20th century. The thesis tries to reconstruct his circle of artists and to analyse the Jewish constructions of identity. Methodologically, the thesis is based on the concept of cultural transfer; at the same time it also draws from historical analyses of social bonds and from the Visual Turn writings. The primary sources consist of individual pieces of visual arts, Steinhardts` guest books, his diaries, memoires of his wife and the then press. This thesis is dedicated to the life and time of Jan Blahoslav, the bishop of the Unity of the Brethren and his relationship to the Unity. The aim of this work is to show Blahoslav's opinion of higher education from 2 points of view: a humanistic man of his time and also a member of the Unity. The thesis is divided into 8 chapters which focus on 3 main topics: Jan Blahoslav and the Unity of the Brethren, humanism and education. In the first chapter, the time of the Renaissance and humanism is introduced, the second is dedicated to the history of the Unity of the Brethren and the third one is actually the biography of Jan Blahoslav. In the fourth chapter, Blahoslav's main writings are described. The second half of the thesis focuses on education in the time of scholasticism and humanism from the European point of view, the system of education of the Unity of the Brethren and the pedagogical contribution of Jan Blahoslav.

Práce zpracovává renesanční fasádní nástěnné malby a sgrafita v Prachaticích. Časově je práce vymezena 16. stoletím, kdy město vlastnili Rožmberkové. Největší rozkvět města je spojen s vládou Viléma z Rožmberka v 2. polovině 16. století, kdy ve městě také vnikly všechny výpravnější figurální výzdoby domů. Výzdoba jednotlivých domů odráží postupný majetkový vzestup prachatických měšťanů. Realizace z 50. a 60. let 16. století jsou spíše výtvarně a také technologicky skromnější. Největší vzepětí jak majetkové tak také umělecké lze sledovat od začátku 70. let. Hrdost měšťanů a jejich estetické nároky nejlépe dokládá výzdoba Staré radnice. Nesmírně zajímavá a kvalitní výzdoba prachatických domů otvírá jako celek řadu otázek. Vedle dílenských a uměleckých souvislostí s ostatními jihočeskými městy, je to problém autenticity památky. Na některých fasádách, které byly pokládány za renesanční, se již s renesanční malbou ve skutečnosti nesetkáme. Jedná se o barokní novotvary, které motivickými částmi navázaly na původní výzdobu. Výrazné jsou odkazy na Rožmberky, které připomíná téměř každá fasáda. To nelze vysvětlit jinak, než jako výraz subordinace majiteli panství a tamnímu panovníkovi. This master’s thesis focuses on the reconstruction and new making use of Moravský Krumlov Chateau. The chateau’s premises include multi-purpose halls, leisure centres for the city’s inhabitants, a hotel and exhibition showrooms for tourists. The main idea was to design a “Chateau for the City”, that is to reconstruct the isolated chateau so that it meets the practical needs of the inhabitants of Moravský Krumlov. The new constructions of geometric shapes are designed to impress and, at the same time, reflect the needs of the operation of the chateau complex.

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate certain artistic pieces with motives of Italian Theatre of Renaissance. Further, this work discusses the literature dedicated to this topic in the framework of Czech and foreign history of art and theatre. In this regard, attention is drawn to analysis and the interpretation of particular pieces of an art from the formal and iconographic perspectives. The introduction is concerned with the key historical aspects and personalities of the Commedia dell'arte in connection with chosen pieces of art. Based on provided facts, this thesis comes to an acquired evaluation and comparisons of motives with the character of theatre performance.

The aim of this work is to examine the pastoral theme in literature, including its origin, the main characteristics, and its transformation from ancient times until the Renaissance, with particular focus on the author's originality, cultural environment, and social progress. This work is divided into five chapters and the conclusion. The second chapter deals with the origin of this genre and analyses idyllic poetry of the Greek poet Theokritos and his Roman follower Vergilius who introduced the pastoral tradition in literature. The third chapter focuses on the persistence of this tradition during the Middle Ages, and the manner in which the theme was incorporated into Christian literature. The Boccaccio's stories of nymphes and shepherds will be analysed. The fourth chapter explores the arrival of humanism and introduces the figure of Lorenzo de'Medici whose pastoral compositions carry on the tradition of mythic Arcadia wherein the shepherds suffer repeatedly the anguish of unhappy love. The popularity of this genre exceeds the limits of humanism and impacts the renaissance poets as well. The fifth chapter presents the life and work of Jacopo Sannazaro. This disertation is a contribution to our knowledge of music and musical culture in the Old Town of Prague between 1526 and1620. The first methodological chapter, Musical culture of a Renaissance city as a topic, discusses different views on the problem of musical culture in the city, both in domestic and foreign academic literature. This text is followed by a survey of the present state of research entitled Musical Culture in the Old Town of Prague 1526-1620 in the light of present literature. It focuses only on the items that contributed significantly to the topic. The third chapter, Focus on the musical privacy of Prague citizens in the period before the Battle of the White Mountain, opens the main part of the dissertation with the results of newly-undertaken research. It discusses eight concrete samples of inventories and shows the presence of musical scores and instruments in citizens' households and their function in life in those times. This thesis deals with the personality and life of the Tuscan Renaissance scientist Galileo Galilei, a time in which he lived, and his relationship with the Catholic Church. The aim of the thesis is to acquaint the reader with the life of Galileo Galilei and Renaissance society, and thus capture important moments and influences that shaped Galileo's personality and life orientation. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first part deals with the Renaissance period and the related European Reformation. It focuses on the Renaissance in Italy, then education, religious situation and seeing the world. The second chapter is dedicated to Galileo's biography, with regard to his work and then researchers who were with Galileo joint activity. The last part refers to the religious situation of 16th to 17th century, considering the Council of Trent, the Roman Inquisition and the cosmology of how the people regarded it in antiquity and later the Catholic Church and scientists in the early modern period. This part especially illustrates the conflict Galileo and the Church. It describes the reasons of the conflict, the trial of Galileo and the consequences that flowed from it.
