The Perception of Patient Satisfaction among Public Health and Pharmacy graduate students: A Retrospective Analysis

Obeso, Chris, Phan, Hoang, Ho, Tan, Urbine, Terry January 2016 (has links)
Class of 2016 Abstract / Objectives: To explore the difference in patient satisfaction with pharmacy services between Public Health and Pharmacy students. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the results of a 20-item questionnaire regarding patient satisfaction with community pharmacy services that was administered to pharmacy and public health graduate students at the University of Arizona. Pharmacy students (n = 95) and Public Health students (n = 67) completed the questionnaire and a Chi Square test was utilized to compare the results. Scores of 4 and 5 (Very Good and Excellent, respectively) were compared against 1, 2, and 3 (Poor, Fair, and Good, respectively). Questions were stratified into domains of “Friendly Explanation” and “Managing Therapy.” Results: Sixty-two percent of pharmacy students answered “Excellent” and “Very Good” on all 20 questions compared to 37% of public health students (p<0.001). In the “Friendly Explanation” domain, 73% of pharmacy students answered “Excellent” and “Very Good” compared to 57% of public health students (p<0.001). The “Managing Therapy” domain also yielded a higher percentage of satisfied pharmacy students compared to public health students (48% vs 36%, p<0.001). Areas with the highest degree of difference involved availability of the pharmacist, professionalism of pharmacy staff, and promptness of pharmacy services. Conclusions: Pharmacy students were more satisfied with pharmacy services than public health students. Increasing the availability of the pharmacist to answer patient questions, improving professionalism of staff, and providing prompt services may improve patient satisfaction with community pharmacy services among the general public.

A retrospective analysis of the utility of myocardial perfusion imaging using single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) for differentiating ischaemic from non-ischaemic left ventricular dysfunction

Singh, Alosha January 2017 (has links)
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Health Sciences in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Medicine, in Internal Medicine at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. September 2017 / Differentiating ischaemic left ventricular dysfunction (ILVD) from non-ischaemic left ventricular dysfunction (NILVD) is crucial since appropriately selected patients may benefit from coronary revascularisation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic utility of myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) in patients presenting with left ventricular dysfunction using coronary angiography (CA) as the gold standard. Methods This single centre retrospective study was conducted in 52 patients with heart failure with a reduced ejection fraction (EF< 40%) who had both MPI as well as CA at CHBAH between January 2005 and December 2012. ILVD was diagnosed when the distribution and severity of coronary disease on CA was sufficient to account for the degree of left ventricular dysfunction. Results From a total of 52 patients, 33 (63%) had ILVD and 19 (37%) had NILVD. As compared to patients with NILVD, those with ILVD were more likely to be Indian and White (p=0.0014), have more coronary risk factors (5(2) vs 3(2), p < 0.0001) and more commonly have q waves on the ECG (0% vs 55%, p < 0.0001). MPI had a sensitivity of 100% (95% CI 66-100%) and specificity of 52.63% (95% CI 30.18 - 75.08) for the diagnosis of ILVD. The presence of fixed perfusion defects on MPI was the best predictor of ILVD. Conclusion MPI has high sensitivity but low specificity for the diagnosis of ILVD. This makes it a useful screening test for the exclusion of coronary artery disease in patients presenting with heart failure. / MT2018

Medication Expenditure and Resource Utilization Among Patients with Musculoskeletal Disorders: Analysis of 2007 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Data

Atreja, Nipun 30 April 2013 (has links)
Objective: To estimate the national prevalence and direct incremental expenditures of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD's) using the 2007 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey data.
Methods: A retrospective database analysis was conducted and individuals with MSD's (ICD-9-CM codes 274.00; 710.00-738.00) were identified. Dependent variables were total health care and other service category expenditures. The study utilized descriptive and regression analyses.
Results: In 2007, the national prevalence of MSD's was 33 million with incremental costs of $886.49 per person. The inpatient expenditures ($33,461.85) were the highest cost component in MSD's and the predictors of total health care expenditures were age, marital status, and presence of the disease condition.
Conclusion: The systematic assessment of MSD's and their associated incremental costs to the society is essential in increasing the awareness of decision makers to implement intervention strategies that are effective in lowering the disease incidence and in reducing the overall cost of disease management. / Mylan School of Pharmacy and the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences / Pharmacy Administration / MS / Thesis

Approche rétrospective des cycles phénologiques chez quelques espèces guyanaises : vers une nouvelle branche de la dendrochronologie ? / Crown development and growth rhythms in some tropical rain forest canopy trees of French Guiana : a retrospective analysis

Mangenet, Thomas 12 March 2013 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to study retrospectively the crown development of large canopy trees of French Guiana. We choose several species expressing various ecological behaviors, architectural developments and phenologies which had at least one morphological or anatomical marker usable in retrospective analysis. We described well sun exposed branches that were representative of individuals' height-growth and reproduction. Simultaneously, we conducted a monthly phenological survey in order to compare our hypotheses from the retrospective analysis to the phenological data. The retrospective analysis allowed us to reconstruct the last 10 to 15 developmental cycles within the branches in mean, sometimes up to 40 cycles in some species. Data give information on the species' intrinsic phenological organization as on growth modalities and reproduction. We could access to the meristems history within the branches and in some case, we could approach meristems interactions on a trophic level. Finally, we could compare species with various phenological strategies within the same relative temporal frame given that is given by the retrospective analysis. The retrospective analysis appears to be a reliable complementary tool that gives access to new and original results in tropical tree study.

Influence of Child and Adolescent Psychopathology on Adult Personality Disorder

Ramklint, Mia January 2002 (has links)

Individuals afflicted with childhood and adolescent mental disorders have an increased risk for poor outcome in adulthood. The progression of psychopathology from childhood to adult life may be influenced by a multitude of interacting variables, both biological and psychosocial. There is limited information on the relationships between child psychopathology and adult personality and personality disorders. The main aim of this thesis was therefore to gain better knowledge concerning adult personality outcome in patients with early onset of mental disorders.

Former child psychiatric patients as compared to controls had a significantly higher prevalence of all DSM-IV personality disorders (38.0 vs. 10.9 percent, p<0.001) and also a considerably higher personality disorder co-morbidity. They also had more psychosocial and environmental problems. This was exaggerated in those diagnosed with a personality disorder. Major depression, disruptive disorders and substance use disorders at a young age were strong predictors for adult personality disorder.

Patients with an early onset major depression had more personality disorders and more deviant personality traits than those with a late onset.

Forensic psychiatric male patients diagnosed with a previous conduct disorder as compared to those without had more cluster B personality disorders, and more repeated violent criminality and mixed abuse.
