Factors affecting the achievements of intellectually gifted children / Intelektualiai gabių vaikų pasiekimų veiksniai

Šimelionienė, Aida 31 January 2012 (has links)
The aim of the study - to analyze the main factors of learning achievements of intellectually gifted children. The sample consists of 16 - 18 year old students (N = 54), whose Reasoning Total (RT) scores in Intelligence Structure Test 2000R (I-S-T 2000 R, Amthauer R., Brocke B., Liepmann D, Beauducel, 2001) are 90 percentile or higher. This thesis analyses the peculiarities of intellectual activity of intellectually gifted 16- 18 years old students, their learning achievements and has the objective to determine individual and environmental factors of their learning achievements. The results show that Intellectually gifted 16 - 18 year old students have unique intelligence structure when fluid intelligence (Gf) is higher than crystallized intelligence (Gc) and numerical abilities are higher than verbal abilities. Part of older intellectually gifted students are underachievers and their learning achievements are not related to their intelligence. Learning motivation, study/organizational skills and gender are the most important factors of learning achievements of intellectually exceptionally gifted and gifted 16 - 18 year old students and they not depend on the level of their intellectual abilities.

Dalaudier, Francis 25 June 1986 (has links) (PDF)

Salvador Villà, Marta 26 January 2005 (has links)

Bottlenecks in the Freight Forwarding sector in West - coast Africa

Abdallaoui Berrada, Chakir, Ciro, aida January 2009 (has links)

Problem – The expansion of global trade and supply chain integration has put great emphasison logistics, particularly in the intermediary sector, freight forwarders. Whilst in developedcountries freight forwarders benefit from competitive markets and trade facilitatingpolicies, this sector in West coast Africa exhibits low logistics performance levels. Inorder to address such issues, one needs to analyse the problem and identify the causes; thisthesis focuses on identifying the bottlenecks in the freight-forwarding sector in west coastAfrica.Purpose – The main purpose of this study is to identify the bottleneck/s within thefreight-forwarding industry in west coast Africa, namely: Angola, Cameroon, DR of Congo,Gabon, and Nigeria.Method – This thesis employs a pre-study and case study method, to ensure sufficient collectionof relevant material, taking into account the lack of research in this subject. We usedthe material obtained from the interviews and the secondary source, to structure our purpose, research questions, and to define the case of our study. Results – The study concludes with a series of interesting findings; First, the activity of aFreight Forwarder depends on a series of factors that do not depend on the Freight Forwarderper se. And second, Freight Forwarders in order to accomplish their tasks, have accessto services that are shared by all providers, and that are beyond their control. To conclude, the study identifies infrastructure as a major bottleneck in the Freight Forwarding sector.

Marketingová strategie horského ubytovacího zařízení / Marketing Strategy of a Mountain Guesthouse

Königová, Jitka January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this Master's thesis is to describe the creation of a marketing strategy with a practical example (a mountain guesthouse). The theoretical part of this thesis emphasizes the methodology and techniques of creating a marketing strategy which is then applied in the practical part. Special attention is paid to the application of theory from which the marketing strategy can be defined. The marketing strategy that has been formulated in the thesis is what will be recommended to the guest house as their future course of action.

Statistical Inference From Complete And Incomplete Data

Can Mutan, Oya 01 January 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Let X and Y be two random variables such that Y depends on X=x. This is a very common situation in many real life applications. The problem is to estimate the location and scale parameters in the marginal distributions of X and Y and the conditional distribution of Y given X=x. We are also interested in estimating the regression coefficient and the correlation coefficient. We have a cost constraint for observing X=x, the larger x is the more expensive it becomes. The allowable sample size n is governed by a pre-determined total cost. This can lead to a situation where some of the largest X=x observations cannot be observed (Type II censoring). Two general methods of estimation are available, the method of least squares and the method of maximum likelihood. For most non-normal distributions, however, the latter is analytically and computationally problematic. Instead, we use the method of modified maximum likelihood estimation which is known to be essentially as efficient as the maximum likelihood estimation. The method has a distinct advantage: It yields estimators which are explicit functions of sample observations and are, therefore, analytically and computationally straightforward. In this thesis specifically, the problem is to evaluate the effect of the largest order statistics x(i) (i&gt / n-r) in a random sample of size n (i) on the mean E(X) and variance V(X) of X, (ii) on the cost of observing the x-observations, (iii) on the conditional mean E(Y|X=x) and variance V(Y|X=x) and (iv) on the regression coefficient. It is shown that unduly large x-observations have a detrimental effect on the allowable sample size and the estimators, both least squares and modified maximum likelihood. The advantage of not observing a few largest observations are evaluated. The distributions considered are Weibull, Generalized Logistic and the scaled Student&rsquo / s t.

Vliv latentní toxoplasmosy na inteligenci infikovaných osob / Influence of latent toxoplasmosis on intelligence of infected subjects

Chvátalová, Veronika January 2012 (has links)
There remain inconsistencies in the literature concerning the intelligence of subjects infected with latent toxoplasmosis. The main goals of this work are to find out whether, a) latent toxoplasmosis influences the intelligence of infected subjects and b) whether Rh negative and Rh positive subjects respond to the infection in different ways. In this work we used a complex test of intelligence, The Structure Intelligence Test I-S-T 2000 R. We were able to statistically control for the confounding variable the size of the place of residence in childhood. This had benefits when compared to previous studies. The differences in intelligence were measured in students of The Faculty of Science. The sample used included 46 toxoplasma-infected and 188 toxoplasma-free individuals. Using nonparametric tests we found lower numerical, fluid and general intelligence in toxoplasma-infected subjects compared to noninfected subjects. In addition, these tendencies were also observed in the results of parametric tests. Further to these components of intelligence there was also found to be a lower component of numerical knowledge in toxoplasma-infected males. By contrast, no differences between infected and noninfected individuals was found to occur in the female test subjects. No statistically significant...
