The Effect of Scale Centredness on Patient Satisfaction Responses

High satisfaction rates and the lack of response variability are problematic areas in survey research. An important area of methodological concern for self-report survey is the sensitivity and reliability of the instrument. This research examines the effects of a positive (right) centred scale on the distribution and reliability of satisfaction responses in a positive respondent population. A total of 216 participants were randomly assigned to one of the following three experimental Likert scale conditions: 5–point equal interval balanced scale; 5–point positive (right) packed scale; 5–point positive (right) centred scale. The distribution of responses occurred in the direction hypothesized. Comparable discrimination was found across the three conditions. Although, the study findings did not prove to be significant, the equal interval balanced scale produced the lowest mean score, contrary to previous research findings.

Feasibility of a Small Scale Intensity Correlation Interferometer

Demand for high-resolution imaging capabilities for both space-based and ground-based imaging systems has created significant interest in improving the design of multi-aperture interferometry imaging systems. Interferometers are a desirable alternative to single aperture imaging systems due to the fact that the angular resolution of a single aperture system is dependent on the diameter of the aperture and the resolution of the image recording device (CCD or otherwise) which quickly results in increased size, weight, and cost. Interferometers can achieve higher angular resolutions with lower resolution recording mediums and smaller apertures by increasing the distance between the apertures. While these systems grow in both size, mechanical, and computational complexity, methods of testing large scale designs with small scale demonstration systems currently do not exist. This paper documents the performance of a small scale multi-aperture intensity correlation interferometer which is used to view a double slit image. The interferometer consists of 2 avalanche photo-diodes connected to a data acquisition computer. The image is produced by shining light through the double slit image an image containment system. The sensors are placed at the far end of the image containment system, and their voltages are recorded and digitally filtered. This study presents the formulation of the design parameters for the interferometer, the assembly and design of the interferometer, and then analyzes the results of the imaging experiment and the methods used to attempt to prevent unwanted noise from corrupting the expected interference pattern. Codes in C and C++ are used to collect and analyze the data, respectively, while Matlab® was used to produce plots of binary data. The results of the analysis are then used to show that a small scale intensity correlation interferometer is indeed feasible and has promising performance.

Validation Of The Facet Satisfaction Scale (Fss): An Evaluative Approach To Assessing Facet Job Satisfaction

Job satisfaction has, and continues to be an important construct of interest to researchers and practitioners alike. However, conflicting operational definitions and inconsistent measurement systems have reduced the efficacy of the construct in predicting important job-related outcomes for organizations and their employees. The Facet Satisfaction Scale (FSS) was designed to overcome these deficiencies by creating a facet-based measure that assesses job satisfaction in accordance with recent definitions of the construct. Reliability and validity analyses were conducted on both the complete and shortened version of the scale. The FSS exhibited evidence of reliability (ranging from .52 to .93 for the shortened FSS, and .53 to .96 for the complete FSS). Evidence of scale validity was also obtained through the use of construct, content, and criterion-related validity measures. Implications of the study on future research on job satisfaction are discussed.

Numerical modeling of gas migration into and through faulted sand reservoirs in Pabst Field (Main Pass East Block 259), northern Gulf of Mexico

The further exploration and development of Pabst Gas Field with faulted sand reservoirs require an understanding of the properties and roles of faults, particularly Low Throw near Vertical Faults (LTNVFs), in gas migration and accumulation at a reservoir scale. This study presents numerical modeling of gas migration and accumulation processes in Pabst Field. Based on studies of the reservoirs, structure, faults, and fluid properties of the field, reservoir scale modeling was performed to determine the gas supply style and the fault properties by means of hundreds of iterations in which the fault properties and gas supply pattern were modified to match the gas distribution obtained from modeling with the gas distribution inferred from seismic data constrained by well data and production data. This study finds that in the main three sand reservoirs of Pabst Field the overlying younger sands cut down into the underlying older sands, so that partial connections between the three sands allow gas communication among the sands. Meanwhile, three fault families break up the three sands into numerous compartments. A primary fault and large synthetic and antithetic faults act as gas migration pathways: the synthetic and antithetic faults are inlets for gas flow and the primary fault is an outlet, and LTNVFs act as barriers to gas flow. Modeling requires fault properties in the field to change while the field is formed. The porosity and permeability of the faults in Pabst Field are 10% and 0.1 md, respectively, during gas charging of the sand reservoirs. But when there is no gas charging and large gas columns are maintained, the porosity and permeability of the faults decrease to 6% and 0.001 md, respectively. Pabst Field probably has an impulse gas charge history. Fault opening and closing, gas charge and recharge, and replacement of gas by formation water may occur. A combination of stratigraphy, structure, overpressure and gas charge rate control gas migration style, gas charge history, and gas distribution in the field. The significance of the study is that this improved numerical approach for modeling gas migration into and through specifically faulted sand reservoirs fills the gap between basin modeling and production modeling.

A study of a Scale-sized Model for Analysis of Vehicular Antennas

In this study, we establish a car model which better resembles a real car and compare with the simplified car model as a reference. When taking the circular polarization antenna into consideration, we need the refined car model in the simulation. Besides, TPMS antenna measurements are conducted and the results are compared with the simulation to verify the accuracy of our simulation. The result of the simulation shows that the signal cannot be received when TPMS antenna is mounted on the rear tires. Proper solution is suggested to alleviate this problem. Due to the limitation of the measurement environment, we consider using scale-sized car model for the measurement of the antenna radiation pattern. Also, we compare the radiation pattern in the scale-sized car model with that in the full-sized car model. For the measurement of the vehicular antenna, we find that using the scale-sized car model for the preliminary estimation of the antenna radiation pattern is feasible and practicable.
