Stellvertretung as vicarious suffering in Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Randall, Samuel January 2018 (has links)
Stellvertretung represents a consistent and central hermeneutic for Bonhoeffer. This thesis demonstrates that, in contrast to other translations, a more precise interpretation of Bonhoeffer's use of Stellvertretung would be 'vicarious suffering'. For Bonhoeffer Stellvertretung as 'vicarious suffering' illuminates not only the action of God in Christ for the sins of the world, but also Christian discipleship as participation in Christ's suffering for others; to be as Christ: Schuldübernahme. In this understanding of Stellvertretung as vicarious suffering Bonhoeffer demonstrates independence from his Protestant (Lutheran) heritage and reflects an interpretation that bears comparison with broader ecumenical understanding. This study of Bonhoeffer's writings draws attention to Bonhoeffer's critical affection towards Catholicism and highlights the theological importance of vicarious suffering during a period of renewal in Catholic theology, popular piety and fictional literature. Although Bonhoeffer references fictional literature in his writings, and indicates its importance in ethical and theological discussion, there has been little attempt to analyse or consider its contribution to Bonhoeffer's theology. This thesis fills this lacuna in its consideration of the reception by Bonhoeffer of the writings of Georges Bernanos, Reinhold Schneider and Fyodor Dostoevsky. Each of these writers features vicarious suffering, or its conceptual equivalent, as an important motif. According to Bonhoeffer Christian discipleship is the action of vicarious suffering (Stellvertretung) and of Verantwortung (responsibility) in love for others and of taking upon oneself the Schuld that burdens the world.

Fabre, Karine 26 November 2008 (has links) (PDF)

The EC-merger control; a transforming merger control.

Hedbom, Adam January 2003 (has links)

Isochronal: A Suite for Jazz Orchestra

Guzman Borrero, Jose E. 01 May 2016 (has links)
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF José E. Guzmán Borrero, for the Master of Music degree in Music Theory and Composition, presented on April 8, 2016, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: ISOCHRONAL: A SUITE FOR JAZZ ORCHESTRA MAJOR PROFESSOR: Dr. Christopher Walczak The suite is a three movement composition for jazz orchestra in which I integrate contemporary compositional methods with the harmonic idioms of the jazz genre. The first movement, “Flight,” takes a minimalist (ca. 1970-1990) approach through the beginning of the piece, then incorporates a development section reminiscent of music from the Classical period with the use of two and three voice counterpoint. Followed by a traditional jazz solo section. The second movement, “'Round Ten” is a ballad featuring the post-tonal compositional method of dodecaphony (ca. 1925-1950) in tandem with melodic and harmonic jazz expressions reminiscent of Thelonious Monk. My compositional use of tone rows is similar to the methods of Benjamin Britten and Alban Berg, who used the row as a compositional guideline or tool. This is unlike the initial use of the row by its founder, Arnold Schoenberg, which restricted the composer by the necessity of using all twelve pitches (with no emphasis on a tonal center) and using it in a predetermined order. The ballad section of the second movement is similar to Thelonious Monk's music in its use of non-harmonic tones and sharp dissonances mixed with a repetitive melodic contour. The third and final movement, “Lights Out!” is an up-tempo piece that uses the dense harmonies reminiscent of Don Menza and Thad Jones’ arrangements. The harmonic structure of the piece is from the modal jazz period of the 1960s in which composers pushed the boundaries of the typical 32-bar song format. The melodic material in this movement includes material from the two previous movements.

Ressalta-se a responsabilidade do profissional da comunicação em saúde com os cidadãos no cotidiano, na visibilidade de suas necessidades e ampliação de espaços de diálogo, repensando as próprias práticas como lugar de reflexão e transformação / Communication practices, which incl ude dialogue, participation, production, circulation and apropriation of information, are observed in social interactions related to women's experiences of illness in the control of uterine cervix cancer in Northern Brazil, where there is high incidence an d mortality. The research focuses a dialogic approach in communication studies, in which the human link appear as an object. In a transdisciplinary axis that enables integration between theory and practice, dialogy is identifying as a constituent element o f social, cultural, political relations where symbolic disputes occur. This reflects on the communication rights and its implications in human right to health. The right of communication has in dialogue studies the theoretical basis and reference for a bid irectional and democratic process, which includes participation in the construction of public policies. The background and experiences are linked to the tripod concepts - dialogue, law and linkage - which are constituent of health integrality. The applicab ility in management and health services everyday is in recognition of users as political subjects. Th e dialogue involves reciprocity through which people perceive and elaborate discourses, right includes visibility for the demands and access to spaces to e xert citizenship and human link is materialized by understanding the needs and respect for people ́s knowledge. Two questions guided the research: one theoretical and epistemological nature, linking theories and practices in order to understand the communic ation in different aspects and contexts in the field of communication and health; another, methodological, invests on a strategy to relate the communication practices with the right to health, both in the daily lives of women users of health services and i n the public policies. The methodological approach strategy followed therapeutic itineraries, monitoring reports about illness and care with 16 users of the Brazilian Unified Health System. It was interviews with 15 managers of the national, state and muni cipal health systems. Users tell of experiences in which the difficulty in being heard and considered - base of communication rights - interfere with the guarantee of their right to health. The instrumental use of communication is naturalized in the daily units and healthcare institutions, do not show political aspects or interests that underlie the practices, which are mainly based on the transfer of information on standards or procedures for users. Although there are speeches open to user participation, p ublic policies and services tend not to include them in the construction and evaluation guidelines or actions. The responsibility of professional health communicators is emphasized in daily life, in the visibility of needs and expansion of opportunities fo r dialogue, rethinking the practices itself as space for reflection and transformation
