The diploma thesis focuses on ascertaining the satisfaction of boarders, pupils and students of three school lunchroom in South Bohemia. Through a questionnaire, their opinions on variety, quality, atmosphere of the place and the attitude of the staff were ascertained, as was the overall satisfaction with the lunchroom. The satisfaction of boarders differs in individual aspects, in overall perspective, and it also develops in time. Mostly, the respondents were satisfied with the attitude of the staff and the variety of food in the first phase of the questionnaire. Compared to it, the variety in the second phase did not change much (it dropped slightly) and the attitude of the staff was satisfactory too. The quality of meals changed positively as did the atmosphere of the lunchroom and the overall satisfaction.

An Analysis of Advisory Committee Activities in a Successful Public School Bond Election

The purpose of this study was to determine the perceived effectiveness of specific advisory committee activities during a school bond proposal and election process. The study began with an extensive review of the literature on the use of advisory committee activities in school districts for the purpose of promoting a school bond issue. This revealed that school officials maintaining a low profile, the presence of a diverse community task force, focusing on YES voters, involving the committee in early planning, focusing on disseminating information, and focusing on benefits to children and the community are all important in the passage of a school bond election. A survey was developed and administered to committee members, school board members and school district administrators in a North Texas school district that had successfully completed a bond election. Survey respondents consistently supported the practices put into place by the studied school district, which closely mirrored the activities espoused in the research. Respondents believed the diversity of the task force and the roles of the committee members to be crucial to the passage of the bond. The only subcategory of questions that drew mixed reviews and positions of support was that of the need for the administration and board to maintain a low profile. Participants in the survey viewed having a diverse community task force, focusing on YES votes, involvement in early planning, focusing on disseminating information, and focusing on benefits to children and the community as being important to the successful passage of the school bond election, with clear dissemination of information being the most important activity of the committee.

Who are these people that control the purse strings of one of the largest businesses in the state? What do we know about the men who hire more employees than any other business in the state? What are the educational accomplishments of these people that seem to fit them for the task of determining the educational training of the youth of our state? Are these people parents having a direct personal interest in the schools? Another reason of great importance for knowing more about our local board members is the fact that Florida is one of two states allowing the payment of large salaries for board members. How much time do they devote to the duties that fall upon their shoulders from the management of this business? What compensation do they receive for the performances of these duties? THE INFLUENCE OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON SCHOOL BOARD EFFECTIVENESS AS PERCEIVED BY THE SUPERINTENDENT

<p>  </p> <p>The positions of the school board and superintendent have been in place for years and in that time not only have the dynamics of education changed, but the societal structures have also evolved. This quantitative study examined the relationships that exist between the school board’s engagement in training and professional development and their effectiveness in the areas of creating a vision, using data, establishing goals, communication, and trust. All aspects of the board’s effectiveness and engagement in training were scored based on the superintendent’s perception of them using the <em>Effective Board Leadership Practices Survey. </em>Using the Spearman’s <em>p </em>correlation coefficient, significant correlations were found between board training and all five of the forementioned characteristics. The strongest correlation was found between the board training variable and the goal-setting variable. While still significant, the weakest correlation was found between the board training variable and the use of data variable. The impact of this study for superintendents is to gain a better understanding of often used educational terms in the strategic planning process and offer potential improvements in implementing these different characteristics. The study recommends that superintendents should build trust with their school boards by facilitating ongoing training in the processes used to develop the district’s vision, processes used to define the district’s goals, and using data to not only make decisions, but to monitor the progress of those decisions. The study also recommends that superintendents need to understand the importance of working with the board to effectively communicate these different processes with the community stakeholders. </p>
