Study on the change of coastal topography-A case study of Fu-Long coast

Liu, Chia-Cheng 20 July 2011 (has links)
The reasons to cause the variation of the Fu-Long resort area have been investigated in the study. The resort area is the spit extended from the northern coast of the Shung-si River located at the northeast part of Taiwan. Historical coastlines and the bathymetry surveyed in the last 15 years have been used to interpret the cause of the coastline variation. Numerical simulation of the wave and flow field is performed to assist the interpretation. It is found that the spit may be eroded during typhoon season by the flood from Shung-si River and recovered in the next year if the typhoon occurred in monsoon season in which the eroded sediment carried by northward monsoon waves will be merged to the coastline by the following southward northeast season waves. On the contrary, if the typhoon occurred during northeast wind season, the accompanying southward will carry the eroded sediment further south and the spit may not recover in the next year. It is further found that the source of the sediment from the river has been decreased in the last decade and the coastline retreated in responding the source decrease. Man-made fishery port close to the spit also deposited some sediment and may cause the variation of the coastline.

Zeng Dynasty and His Reigning over Taiwan

Song, Guei-long 04 July 2008 (has links)
The movement of history will not be isolated from any outside and has the absolute impact on the rest of the world. Before "Formosa" (Illa Formosa) was found, Taiwan is not excluded from the historical evolution, and of developing their unique characteristics. The Portuguese discovery of Taiwan and countries around the world is the key to the connections of historical development and allowing Taiwan into the era of sailing. Taiwan's prehistoric times to illustrate the unique historical and cultural evolution; Han Chinese enter Taiwan for the sake of survival, and further change in Taiwan's existing constitution. Besides changing from hunting to farming technology has greatly improved the lives of local residents, a large number of Han Chinese Immigration has also developing the continental culture; trade demand from the Netherlands, Taiwan is seen at the world stage, also the first time for Taiwan to accept the baptism of different cultures; Prior to this, Japan desires Taiwan for a long time, but their moves and policies end up giving up invasive intentions. While Spain for the sake of trade and dissemination of cultural purposes to compete with the Netherlands, Taiwan has already evolved into East Asia as the most important geopolitical position. The Zengs¡¦ developments in Taiwan, showing they play essential role in the history of Taiwan. As establishment of the first regime, it is absolutely a glorious event. Moreover, its implementation in the military, economics, political, internal affairs and diplomacy, until the present Taiwan still had far-reaching impact. The cultural monument and place names can be powerful proof. Zeng and Qing¡¦s proposals can reflect the status quo in Taiwan and the failure of Zeng¡¦s regime can be a good lesson for leaders in Taiwan. If Taiwan can not get lessons from history, the tragedy will be inevitable. The ultimate solutions can be extracted from the lesson. Facing the rising power of China, the Republic of China undergo severe political environment, which is comparable to Zeng¡¦s condition. The focus of this study hope to provide different points of view to review the past and develop a future module.

私有地上的生態保育:以雙連埤的協力治理為例 / Ecology Conservation on private lands: Collaborative Governance in The Case of Shuang-Lien Lake

林易萱, Lin, Yi-Hsuan Unknown Date (has links)
Conservational policies have been known more applicable to public lands. Yet endangered species can not tell and thus have suffered from the economic activities on private land, leading to an inevitable tragedy. This thesis adopts Shuang-Lien Lake as a case to demonstrate the possibility of an alternative, community-based approach. Through in-depth interviews with policy makers and major stakeholders, this research indicates how collaboration between local government and voluntary citizen groups could overcome the oppositions by local residents against conserving valuable ecologic system on private land.

The tanci "Feng shuangfei": A female perspective on the gender and sexual politics of late-Qing China / Female perspective on the gender and sexual politics of late-Qing China

Liu, Wenjia, 1981- 09 1900 (has links)
x, 276 p. A print copy of this thesis is available through the UO Libraries. Search the library catalog for the location and call number. / The late-Qing tanci "A Pair of Male Phoenixes Flying Together" (Feng shuangfei ; preface dated 1899) is unusual for its depiction of a wide variety of gender issues and sexual relationships. Because the 52-chapter work is credibly attributed to the female poet Cheng Huiying, who is known to have written the poetry collection Beichuang yin 'gao , the tanci gives scholars a unique opportunity to see how a gentry woman thought of the gender roles and sexual politics of the late Qing. My dissertation contains two major sections. Chapters I and II look at Cheng Huiying and her work as part of the `talented women" ( cainü ) culture. These two chapters demonstrate how Cheng Huiying deliberately establishes herself as a unique female writing subject and advocates women's agency in determining their own marriage arrangements. one of women's biggest concerns in premodern China. Chapters III to VI put Feng shuangfei into the larger context of male-authored fiction and examine how it adopts and rewrites the conventions and motifs common to xiaoshuo fiction from a female writer's perspective. I first argue that Feng shuangfei can be considered a serious literary work due to its sophisticated structural design and characterization, although tanci are usually considered as more popular literature. I then evaluate how the female author of this tanci subtly reinvents three gendered motifs that commonly appear in male-authored xiaoshuo fiction. The three motifs are male same-sex eroticism and homosociality, female same-sex desires, and the stereotypes of shrew and ideal wife. Through subtle twists in the plot, the tanci suggests the possibility of the expression of female subjectivity and agency within patriarchal Confucian society even while it follows and supports the normative Confucian order. The perspectives on gender norms and sexual practices offered in this tanci both display how a gentry woman thought about these issues in late imperial China and suggest how the rapid and vast social and ideological changes occurring during the turn of the century opened new spaces for Cheng Huiying to imagine increased agency and autonomy for women within the domestic sphere. / Committee in charge: Maram Epstein, Chairperson, East Asian Languages & Literature; Yugen Wang, Member, East Asian Languages & Literature; Tze-lan Sang, Member, East Asian Languages & Literature; Ina Asim, Outside Member, History
