Knowledge is essential : A qualitative study about social workers meeting and work with abused woman in intimate partner relationship with men.Olsson, Lisa, Persson, Josefin January 2015 (has links)
Nyckelord: Socionom, våldsutsatt kvinna, kunskap, helhetssyn, bemötande / Male violence against woman in intimate partner relationship is a global problem and present in all countries, classes and cultures. The purpose of this study was to examine how social workers in social services describes their work with women, exposed to intimate partner violence. This study a qualitative method, five social workers focusing on this problem, were individually interviewed. The empirical data was analyzed with content analysis. The analysis resulted in a theme, the latent content, which was recurrent through the categories named “knowledge is essential “. Two categories “a passion for having an active interest” and “ it´s all about what glasses you wear” with their sub-categories describe the manifest content in the result. The result has been analyzed from one theoretical perspective system theory and also from the possible room for manoeuvre/ action and bureaucracy. The analysis demonstrates that a holistic view of a womans life situation is an important part of how the work will proceed. The result in this study shows that ”knowledge is essential” in how to receive abused woman and this can reflect in the social workers passion working with abused woman. Also claims that co-workers don´t have enough knowledge to receive abused women. The result shows that municipalities and social workers performing the work in a similar way leads to increased legal certainty from an organizational perspective, but also from the abused woman. The social workers in the study experience that interaction between organizations works well. The result shows that education is important in the work with abused woman. Be received in a good way was seen to be an important foundation in the meeting. In order to work out from the law and new routines and guidelines, the result in the study shows that education both in the university training to became a social worker and at work places in municipalities is needed to open their eyes to be able to recognize the abuse and put more effort in increasing the knowledge in the organizations. This is important to be able to meet the problem in the right way and also prevent the violence that women exposed. Keywords: Social worker, abused woman, knowledge, holistic, treatment.

Hassan Said Neama, Lejla January 2015 (has links)
Abstract The purpose of the study was to gain knowledge about how social workers perceive the underlying factors that may be behind clients’ need of social assistance for longer periods. A qualitative approach has been used and six telephone interviews with social workers from two different municipalities in Stockholm have been performed. The results show that the social workers’ views are that individuals are in need of social assistance because they are unemployed and because they can not speak Swedish, but it also depends on the client's relationship to the social worker and the municipality's employee turnover. The social services can help to prevent clients from being trapped in a long term need of social assistance, for example by clarifying the municipal rules and regulations, by developing and introducing new activities in the municipality and / or by reducing employee turnover and workload.
Aim: Violence does not stop with age. There are many studies on the topic of domestic violence but few focus on the elderly and the role of the social worker in dealing with this issue. The purpose of this study is to analyse and describe how social workers in the field of gerontological social work are actively identifying cases of domestic abuse involving the elderly. Method: This study has a qualitative approach and the data has been gathered through ten semi structured interviews with social workers. The gathered material has been analysed through content analysis. Results: The result of the study highlights various means of identifying abuse such as asking direct questions about violence, asking for assistance by managers and other professionals, adapting the conversation with the client to the given situation, being watchful of physical or abstract signs of violence. In spite of these strategies, the analysis shows that organisational deficiencies puts a large responsibility burden on the individual social worker. Lack of adequate training and standardised questions leads to the social worker having to gather information themselves in order to perform their duties. Keywords: Social worker, elderlies, domestic violence, need assessment

Permanency Planning for Youth in Foster CareArteaga, Elisa 01 June 2018 (has links)
Despite the efforts to shorten the time youth spend in foster care, every year about 37, 362 youths emancipate from the foster care system without reaching permanency. Permanency for foster youth has not received adequate attention from the child welfare community due to the belief that youths are unadoptable. Using a qualitative approach, this study will explore the social workers’ perceptions related to permanency planning for youth with behavior problems and/or juvenile involvement in foster care and analyze the influence of the social workers’ perception on permanency planning for these youths.
This research study found that social workers considered the mental health of youths as most important in considering placement and permanency options. They believe that reunifying the youths with their families of origin was the optimal permanency outcome. However, when this option was not available, they felt that placing the youths with extended family members or family friends under legal guardianship was a good permanency outcome. This study also found that most of the participants limited the youths’ permanency options to only those known family members or friends already named by the parents; they did not consider reinstating reunification services to the parents, reaching out to incarcerated parents, searching for maternal and paternal extended family, or searching for lost siblings. Implications for social work research and practice are discussed.

Barn och ungdomar som begår sexuella övergrepp : Socialsekreterares perspektiv / Children and adolescents who commit sexual assault : Social workers perspectivesNilsson, Liselotte January 2012 (has links)
Introduction: The National Board of Health and Welfares conclusion was that today there was a low awareness about children who act sexually toward others and how their problems can be handled. This requires extensive work by school personnel and social workers to give the children the support they need. Aim: The aim was to investigate social workers perception in cases concerning children and adolescents who committed sexual assault. Method: A qualitative method was utilized with semi-structured interviews to describe social workers perceptions in cases concerning children and adolescents who committed sexual assault. Four social workers from different communities were interviewed in southern Sweden. Results: The result described social workers experiences from working with these cases, investigations, treatments and preventative work. Analysis: The study shows that social worker experience the work with children and adolescents who committed sexual assault as difficult. It could be hard to decide which sexual behavior that was normal in the different ages. Teamwork between schools and social services are important to detect these cases. It is also important to work with children- and adolescent psychiatry and private companies that specialize in investigation and treatments in these cases. Conclusion: Children and adolescents who commit sexual assault seem to be an unknown area even within the social field. With more education to personnel who work with children and adolescents knowledge can be improved in this subject. The personnel need knowledge about which signs to be aware of.

Homelessness : A study of social workers' reasoning about housing solutions for homeless.Reisdorff, Johanna, Forslund, Sara January 2014 (has links)
The aim of the essay was to examine how the social workers reason about the client’s reason for being homeless and how the social workers think about the housing solutions and if possible highlight the ambivalence that can be seen between the client’s reason for homelessness and the housing solutions that are at hand. This essay is based on interviews with six social workers with various titles within the same municipality. The theories that have been used are symbolic interactionism and stigma theory. The results show that these social workers have different attitudes with regard to the approach of the causes of homelessness. Based on the housing solutions of the municipality the social workers approached the homeless clients differently. Some social workers opinions were that there were too many requirements for the homeless to live up to and too few housing solutions to place them in. The social workers that were interviewed said that they believed that the housing model Housing First will be a great addition to the options in housing for the homeless. The reason for this attitude towards the model is that it is based on the requirement for abstinence. The social workers thought that the responsibility for the homeless ought to be on a society level, in other words it is not the individual itself that has created the problem but the social system. In a longer perspective this means that homelessness is created by society.
