This thesis is devoted to Jozef Tiso. It deals with the time of his reign amd the subsequent evaluation of his goverment in slovak historiography. It comes partly from authors who directly collaborated with Jozef Tiso as well as from those who are against this person strongly determine the events between 1948 does not forget nor authors who have worked abroad and then in 1989 returned to Slovakia. It is also the current controversies about Jozef Tiso, which are still present among Slovak historians. A separate chapter is devoted to the Catholic Church and its attitude to Jozef Tiso.

The aim of this diploma thesis is to study how nonhuman agents are introduced and employed as a replacement for social reproduction by analyzing the environment and types of exchange practiced in the countryside of post-socialist Russia. The farm where my fieldwork took place exhibits many types of exchange, among which cryptocurrencies, seen as a socio- material algorithm, are used for the redistribution of essential goods and/or favors in a method similar to those used in former socialist and post-socialist economies. Drawing from the anthropological discussion on gift-commodity logic in the area, I look at cryptocurrencies as a hybrid - they hold the qualities of a gift (authority, name) and could be used to speculate with on the crypto stock-exchange (commodity). The thesis focuses on the developement and role of Czechoslovak advertising and promotional agency Merkur, which was the main organization for the management of the commercial and promotional activities of socialist Czechoslovakia. The aim of thesis is description of its origins, development as well as the concrete advertising campaigns to give a comprehensive picture of its existence and production. The work is divided into four main chapters. The first chapter is focused on the political and historical background of the agency's establishment. It brings important milestones in the media development and the overall social-political climate in the socialist promotion area not only during the establishment period but also throughout her existence. The second chapter is devoted to the position and characteristic of advertising in the Czechoslovak period. It describes the origin of television and radio advertising as well as the advertising agencies in Czechoslovakia, with an emphasis on foreign trade agency Rapid, which played an important role in Merkur's work. The penultimate part of the thesis deals with the origins and development of Merkur itself, the subject of its activity, its employment base and its structure. The topic of the thesis is changes that occurred in Venezuela in last 20 years of its development. The aim of the disertation is to evaluate the shift of the development of Venezuela after the fall of Hugo Cháves and the rise of Nicolás Maduro to power. The theoretical part of the thesis is aimed on Hugo Cháves' rise to power and characteristics of governing body of his successor Nicolás Maduro. The analytical part is divided into two sections - political changes and social-economical changes. Topics like internal and external politics of the country, changes in social and security policies, foreign trade and political issues, changes i the social system and dependance of the country on oil trade are furthermore described in the analytical part. The last section deals with the development of the country based on selected macro-economical markers.

The aim of the thesis is a reflection of the phenomenom military service in the Czechoslovak People's Army in the seventies of the twenties century in the men's collective memory who fulfilled military service in these times. The research was based on a narrative analysis data which have been obtained during oral history interviews with contemporary witnesses. Then, the data were compared with written historical sources. The thesis is focused on a soldier's everyday routine in the military service. The empirical part is focused on the reflection of the military service from the view of narrators.

THE SCREEN OF LAUGHTER AND REMEMBERING Collective Memory and Representations of State Socialism in Czech Cinematography This dissertation has very little to say about state socialism. Rather, it is a work about the memory of state socialism in the post-socialist Czech Republic, about the ways in which state socialism can be remembered in the present. From the perspective of collective memory, "it is not only the ancien regime that produced revolution, but in some respect the revolution produced the ancient regime, giving it a shape, a sense of closure" (Boym 2001, xvi). And there are indeed many, often conflicted modes of remembering this particular past. Françoise Mayer, for example, has identified several distinct types of remembering the "communism" in Czech society (Mayer, 2009). And her list is by no means exhaustive. At the centre of this treatise is the Czech post-socialist cinema. My dissertation thesis was prompted by the question of how cinematic representations bear on the collective memory of state socialism in the Czech Republic. . Dissertation Title Polish Workers in Czechoslovakia: Unwelcome Friendship Specific features of temporary labor migration in the socialist system Author Ondřej Klípa Summary The aim of the dissertation is to study the case of Polish workers in Czechoslovakia who were employed on conditions set by intergovernmental treaties. Most of them were women. This case had two specific features. First, it was highly regulated by both of the co-operating states. Second, the state bodies tried to control intensively both the workers in order to isolate them from local population and the public discourse of this topic. In this study I argue that both of the features arise from fundamental elements of socialist system, which are "economy of shortage" and totalitarianism. These elements were identified in the work of Hungarian economist János Kornai. Instead of totalitarianism as a coherent concept I use only certain totalitarian practices that were exercised with variable intensity, depending on circumstances. This master thesis deals with topic of specific urban political régime of the town of Zlín between years of 1923 and 1938. In the interwar period Zlín was ruled by monopolist rule of Baťa Shoes Company. This firm had dominant economic position in the respective town and it created own candidate list composed of company managers which was winning municipal elections. Town of Zlín is example of specific phenomenon of capitalist paternalism (our own term) realized over area of so called company town. In our study we provide basic historic background of mentioned terms. Then we explore particular aspects of Baťa's rule over Zlín like factors of cultural, economic or employment policies. After all of these aspects we try to create whole picture of Baťa's régime. We compare it with other flourishing régimes of the period too. Baťa's Zlín régime ("batism) had strong modernist and emancipatory effect on its participants. In the same time it formed and manipulated with these respective participants without expectable defense reactions of these people. We would like to examine specific power relations of Baťa's rule and to describe its behavior and reception in Zlín society of interwar time.

This diploma thesis deals with theme of so called Bataism as specific kind of societal order realized in the frame of so called company town. Bataism is characterized by that kind of political power sui generis which primarily depends on economic strength of Bata Shoes Company. Political power of Bata is substantially realizing its political power especially in the frame of town of Zlin. By researching Bataism we define term of so called capitalist paternalism which primarily describes specifics of capitalist/paternalist rule over enclosed area of his own company town (de George, Salt), then historically secondarily also specifics of his rule over broader area (Ford). By researching Bataism from an angle of political science we concentrate on the definition of its power structures and the very character of that power itself. For these purposes we use concepts of Michel Foucault as disciplinary power and model of so called Panopticon. In addition we provide definition of Bataism from the perspective of ideology and utopia. Aim of our work is describing and explaining (seeming) paradox: political program of Bataism is continually legitimized by democratic method although its performance can be seen generally non- democratic.

Diploma thesis How media helped to create life-style of Czechoslovakian people deals with life in socialistic Czechoslovakia in two chosen newspaper perspective. Diploma thesis examines how in Lidová demokracie (published all over the republic) and Pochodeň (published in region of east Bohemia) informed about life-style, what a reader could know from their articles. Life-style is a wide topic, that is why we have chosen just these areas: flat building, culture of building concerning flat lay-out, furniture, textiles and decorations, next leisure time activities focused mainly on recreation represented by mass union recreation, pioneer camp, "cottaging" and camping. Last area is fashion as an integral part of life-style. Fashion is aimed at woman's fashion. In socialism, man's fashion was not interesting topic. Those texts we have found are divided also into three groups - news, publicism and advertisements. To category of publicims we included also advices for household, recipes and this kind of texts. In advertisements, we used also consumer's goods you can use at home or during your holidays (kitchen machines, televisors, tents etc.).
