Jorsäter Engström, Denise, Khazeny, Jasmin January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate and analyze the potential effects on a number of social workers that may arise from listening to stories of domestic violence, and how these social workers deal with the potential effects. The study is based on qualitative interviews with seven social workers that work with domestic violence. The theoretical perspective that we used was the theory of coping. The results of this study have indicated that the respondents have been affected of listening to the stories of domestic violence. Examples of different impacts that the work has had on some of the social workers is that they avoid movies and/or books with elements of violence, they are more aware of the domestic violence in the surroundings and there has also been changes in their cognitive schemas. The respondents have also developed coping strategies such as feelings to cope with a situation and collegial support. Another significant coping strategy is the organizational aspects such as professional tutoring, a balance in the workload and additional education. The aforementioned results and the results from previous studies are comparable, and we have been able to identify some similarities, which could indicate vicarious traumatization.

"Otherwise you are cooked" : -A qualitative study of work-related stress that social workers experience in working with abused children.

Kaya, Fatma, Elkilany, Rania January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate what type of work-related stress that social workersexperience in working with abused children and how they handle this stress. The study uses the qualitative method approach, which has conducted interviews with six social workers who are professionals in three different municipalities in Stockholm. The results of the interviews were further analyzed using coping theory, which is the theoretical methodology of the study. It was clear from the results that all interviewees experienced feelings of, for instance, grief and anger while working with abused children. They also stated that the interaction with this group of children; and the organization's workload; added different types of work-related stress. Despite the help of long work experience, the majority of the interviewees have managed to acquire different strategies for coping with the work with these children. Strategies such as support from colleagues, managers, self-care, and relaxing from work were consistent aspects; in the results for dealing with work-related stress.

Vad gör vi den här gången? : Om återaktualiseringar inom socialtjänstens barnavård / What to do this time? : About re-actualizations within the social services´ childcare

Leal, Pernilla, Sjöstedt, Sara January 2022 (has links)
With re-actualization within the social services’ childcare as a starting point, the aim of this study has been to understand and analyze how social secretaries describe how the organizations framework affects their work. In addition to this, the aim of the study has been to examine how social secretaries experience their work with re-actualizations. The empirical material has been collected through seven qualitative semi-structured interviews with social secretaries who are active in the same municipality. To process and interpret the collected empirical data, a thematic analysis has been used along with Lipsky’s theory. We have also used previous research in the analysis, which have centered on re-actualization, the social services’ efforts for children and adolescents, and organizational challenges. The conclusion drawn from this study from an organizational perspective, point to no differences being made between re-actualization and those that are actualized for the first time. On the other hand the study do show that social secretaries have both unspoken and spoken guidelines and routines that they adhere to when working with children, adolescents, and their parents that are re-actualized. In addition, the study shows that social secretaries in the municipality in question experience that it is usually children of parents with cognitive impairments who are re-actualized. A lack of the right kind of efforts to offer this client group is also mentioned. Divided opinions among social secretaries about whether re-actualization is a problem or not has also emerged in our study. Finally, the study shows that the organization creates challenges for social secretaries in their work with re-actualized clients and they often see re-actualizations as a result of their own work not being effective enough.
