Lycka : Kvinnor behöver uppskattas, män prestera

Eriksson, Birgitta, Norling, Emma January 2013 (has links)

A study of scientific story integrated in science science curriculum

Wang, Yuh-Chao 07 August 2003 (has links)
The objective of this research is to discuss the scientific story intergrated in science curriculum about the students¡¦ attitude towards science and conceptions of the nature of science . This research made use of the Static-group comparison design method for use in quasi-experimental research. The first step was to collect the related scientific background and a scientists¡¦ information, and then create a fictitious story according to the situation in an experimental teaching process, and finally issue a questionnaire in order to understand the students¡¦ experience and conviction. Our research samples were 4 grade 5 classes from a school in Kaohsiung, selected as our test group. Our control groups were 5 classes chosen from another school in Kaohsiung City. We made use of both quantitative and qualitative analysis to collect the data and analyze the information, and the research included the original Questionnaire on the nature of science, Questionnaire on learning science, and an interview information sheet. The questionnaire on the nature of science was analyzed using descriptive statistics and the t-test to obtain a quantitative analysis. The questionnaire on learning science uses percentiles and inductive analysis to obtain a quantitative analysis, with an interview providing qualitative information. The research results indicated that the students enjoyed the fictitious story curriculum, and especially enjoyed hearing about the scientists¡¦ background, as the students believed the stories could assist them in their learning. The students¡¦ attitudes were found to be positive, as the stories were thought to assist them in their learning. Thus, the students were highly interested in the curriculum, though the attitude towards the image of the scientists was not as positive, as was their attitude towards science career planning. On the point of the nature of science, students in the test group were modern minded, and the test group achieved more than the control group. On the quantity and quality of the students¡¦ knowledge, there were significant differences between the test group and the control group. Therefore, the recommendation of this research is that teachers, if interested in this teaching approach, should attempt to collect information on the scientists and their backgrounds. Also, the history of science should be taught to training teachers during their teaching training program. This will assist the teacher in becoming an effective aid towards the students learning of science.

Short fiction creative writing: storytelling with a film perspective

Francis, James 29 August 2005 (has links)
The research and material contained in this thesis will examine short story theory from current perspectives in the field and provide a response to questions posed about the composition of short fiction. A critical introduction will take into account these theories and lead into a collection of five short stories written from a filmmaking perspective. The collection of work provided represents an attempt to break stereotype in the construction and formatting of what is considered standard short story material. Focus for the collection concerns sensory perception, elements of film (flashback sequencing and extended exposition) and gender/race identity. Through the critical introduction and short story collection, the completed thesis will prove that the study and practice of creative writing cannot be regulated by a set of technical guidelines.

The Effects of Advance Organizers and Causal texts on Reading Comprehension for Fifth Graders

Lin, Yi-feng 31 August 2009 (has links)
This study used a 2 (advance organizers: paragraph vs. item) ¡Ñ 2 (story structures: hierarchical vs. sequential) experimental design to explore the effects of advance organizers and story structures on fifth graders¡¦ reading comprehension. The results were listed as following: 1. No matter the hierarchical story structure or the sequential story structure, students receiving the paragraph advance organizer recalled better on the total number of words and the idea units than the students receiving the item advance organizer. 2. The different advance organizers had different effects on students recall. Students receiving the paragraph advance organizer had a better recall on the main ideas, comprehension level 1, Comprehension level 2, and causal chain than students receiving the item advance organizer. 3. For the hierarchical story structure, students who receiving the paragraph advance organizer had a better recall on the detailed ideas and sequential recall than students receiving the item advance organizer. For the paragraph advance organizer, students receiving the hierarchical story structure had a better recall on the detailed ideas and sequential recall than students receiving the sequential story structure. 4. For the recall on dead-ends information, on the hierarchical story structure, students receiving the paragraph advance organizer had better recall than students receiving the item advance organizer. Also, on the item advance organizer, students receiving the sequential story structure had better recall than students receiving the hierarchical story structure. 5. The different advance organizers and story structures had effects on students¡¦ inferential ability. On the hierarchical story structure, the paragraph advance organizer performance surpassed in the item advance organizer. On the item advance organizer, students receiving the sequential story structure had better performance on the inference than students receiving the hierarchical story structure. 6. The different advance organizers had different effects on the literal comprehension. Students receiving the item advance organizer had better performance on the literal comprehension than student receiving the paragraph advance organizer. The different advance organizers and story structures have different effects on students¡¦ reading comprehension. Thus, teachers should to choose different advance organizers to present the reading material depends on the structure of the reading materials. Also, teachers should choose the story structure of the reading material based on which ability that students need to be strengthened.
