Syftet med denna studie var att observera sjuksköterskors hygienrutiner vid insättande av perifer venkateter (PVK). Dessutom avsåg studien att undersöka vilka hygienrutiner som förbisågs och om det förelåg någon skillnad mellan sjuksköteskornas handlande utifrån yrkesverksamma år. Studien genomfördes på två kirurgiska avdelningar och totalt observerades 34 insättande av PVK och 14 sjuksköterskor deltog i studien. Resultatet visar att sjuksköterskor i stor utsträckning inte följer de hygienrutiner som finns för insättande av PVK och att de främst brister på att desinficera händerna före patientkontakt. Vid jämförelser utifrån yrkesverksamma år som sjuksköterska visar resultatet att det föreligger en viss skillnad. Anledningen till att sjuksköterskorna inte följer vissa hygienrutiner tror författarna beror på bland annat tillgänglighet samt svårtolkade riktlinjer. / The purpose of this study was to observe the hygienic routines of nurses when inserting PVC. Furthermore, the study aimed to examine which of the hygienic routines that were disregarded, and if there was a difference between nurses’ actions based on the amount of years that they have been working in the field. The study was conducted in two surgical wards, and included the observation of 34 insertions of PVC by 14 nurses. The results show that nurses, to a great extent, do not adhere to the hygienic routines that exist for the insertion of PVC, and that their main neglect is the sanitizing of their hands with alcohol before making contact with the patients. The results also show, through comparisons based upon nurses' active years within the field, that there is a certain difference. The authors believe that some of the reasons for nurses’ disregard of certain hygiene/hygienic routines is availability, and ambiguous guidelines, among other things.
