Adaptives Vokabellernen : Eine Studie über adaptives Lernen mit automatisierten Vokabelapps / Adaptive Vocabulary Learning : A study about adaptive learning through automated vocabulary apps

Selzer, Dominik January 2017 (has links)
This study analyzes the effectiveness of adaptive methods for learning words in a foreign language with the help of the adaptive learning app Memrise. First, a brief overview over what has been said about word acquisition, adaptive learning, and motivation to learn is given. Secondly, the method of this study is explained, describing both a control group, working with the app, and an experimental group, working with an ordinary wordlist. Results show that students using the app learn words better over a short period of time and also remember the words longer than students who do not work with the app. It can also be said that the motivation to work with the learning app is only effected positively when working in small groups that like to compete for points given in the app itself. The essay concludes that adaptive learning, especially with an app, can offer an effective way of teaching vocabulary in terms of gaining a bigger vocabulary in a short time.
