Tragedin bakom järnridån : Sudettyska socialdemokraters diskurser om fördrivning, förräderi och försoning i svensk exil 1944–1948 / The Tragedy Behind the Iron Curtain : Sudeten-German Social Democrats’ Discourses on Expulsion, Treason and Reconciliation in Swedish Exile 1944–1948

Funke Gómez, Felix January 2024 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the emotional discourses of the association for Sudeten-German Social democrats in Swedish Exile (TG), which in its journal "Blätter" reported on the development of the group and the homeland lost in 1945. This study is limited to an examination of the discourse during the end of the war and the years immediately following, from 1944 to 1948. It also explains how the representatives of the association felt betrayed by so-called phenomena of rupture. The 'history of betrayal' goes back to 1918 and the peace treaties after the First World War, intensifies during the Munich Agreement in 1938 and finally reaches its climax when the Czechoslovak government in exile and even former comrades of the TG turn their backs and instead negotiate with the Soviet Union. This changes the discourse after the end of the war from a positivist perspective, with good connections to Czechoslovakia, to desperate appeals for reason to end the collective guilt, ethnic cleansing and finally develops into ironic anti-communist polemics, as the communists are structured as a scapegoat in the discourse. The anticommunism also serves an integrative function in the Swedish political and social democratic context. Ultimately the communist coup in Czechoslovakia of 1948 made the association feel vindicated in its ideals, but also felt melancholic, as the homeland was now considered lost forever. The purpose of the association is therefore limited to an integrative and culture-preserving function in exile. My research shows that the polemic against an omnipresent Other is more likely to serve the purpose of influencing the Swedish Social Democratic-led government to bring more Sudeten Germans to Sweden after the expulsion, so that a new homeland may be created there, than to directly provoke the Soviet Union or Czechoslovakia for change.

Kozlová, Tereza January 2016 (has links)
The thesis analyses prince Max Egon Hohenlohe-Langenburg's relationship to Czechoslovak Republic from its origin to year 1945. It focuses on the issues of prince's role in Czechoslovak politics and his attitudes to all the situations which affected the aristocracy in the 20th century in ČSR - land reform, Sudeten crisis and postwar turn of events. In the first chapter the thesis concentrates on foundation of ČSR and its impact on aristocracy and thus also on prince Max Egon at the time. The second chapter deals with consequences of land reform on property of Hohenlohe-Langenburg's House, the third chapter is about Sudeten German crisis and prince Max Egon's role in it. The last chapter shows aristocracy's situation after year 1945. The author comes to conclusion that the personality of prince Max Egon was very ambiguous - he always tried to get on well with everybody in effort to gain personal profit, and for fear that he could not keep his property in the extent that he had had since the time Hohenlohe- Langenburg's family settled down in current Czech border. ŠAFOV – OBNOVA OBCE V POHRANIČÍ / ŠAFOV – URBAN RENEWAL OF A VILLAGE IN THE BORDER REGION

Ličmanová, Eva January 2016 (has links)
Thesis deals with Šafov, small village located near Austrian border. History of the village is quite dramatic. Population is ten times smaller nowadays than during its greatest prosperity. At the village there was a jewish part destroyed during and after World War II. Nowadays there are only a few houses and jewish cemetary. Continuity was extremely aborted after World War II, when most residents had to leave their homes because of German nationality. New comming people early had to live very close to Iron Curtain. After many years Šafov can breathe freely but stigma of the past is still evident. I try to preserve dramatical history but also design new active plan. Thesis is divided to three parts: urban planning, architecture and landscape. There are some bigger interventions and also small and easily realizable ones.
