Propriedades mecânicas de fios de NiTi e CuNiTi com efeito memória de forma utilizados em tratamentos ortodônticos / Mechanical properties of NiTi and CuNiTi wires used in orthodontic treatment

Marco Abdo Gravina 21 September 2007 (has links)
Leveling and aligning orthodontic wires must be able to generate light and continuous forces. Thus need to have high springback and flexibility. For this purpose it was suggested a variety of supereslatic and termoactivated Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) wires that may offer a load-deformation curve, in a constant plataform. Copper NiTi wires are presented as exhibiting better thermoactivating properties for optimum-forces system with better dental movement control. The aim of this study was to compare 8 NiTi superelastic and thermoactivated wires of six different brands (GAC, TP, ORMCO, MASEL, MORELLI and UNITEK) to Copper addicted wires (CuNiTi 270C and 350C, ORMCO) to verify if the mechanical properties of Copper NiTi would support its clinical use. Stress-strain tests were done in Engeneering Military Institute (IME-Brazil), through test machine (EMIC- DL 10000 model). Scanning electronic microscope with energy dispersive spectroscopy (JOEL, JSM-5800 LV model) was used to determine chemical composition and superficial topography of the wires. Results showed that, in general, thermoactivated NiTi wires exhibited lower deactivation loads when compared to NiTi superelastics. Among the thermoactivated, the GAC and UNITEK ones are the lighter ones. Among the superelastics, the Copper NiTi 270C (ORMCO) were the lighter ones, statistically similar (ANOVA) to thermoactivated NiTi from UNITEK, for 4% strain. Once Copper NiTi 270C showed deactivated loads 62% lower than Copper NiTi 350C , under 4% strain. As regard to Scanning Electronic Microscopy results for superelastic NiTi wires, better superficial burnishing were found for MASEL and MORELLI ones. On the other hand, the worst were ORMCO Superelastic NiTi and CuNiTi 270C. The thermoactivated ones were superficially visibly marked with inadequate superficial topography. Copper NiTi 350 C and UNITEK showed the worst burnishing among the thermoactivated wires, linked to microtags. It was concluded that CuNiTi 350 C showed the greatest deactivation loads and not favorable superficial burning.

The alloys were melted, homogenized during 12h by 850ºC and machined using wire electroerosion. Then, the samples were quenched in water at room temperature and subsequently analyzed by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, using energy dispersive x-ray, differential scanning calorimetric analysis and x-ray diffractometry. For samples quenched successively, it was found a large change in PTPT after 22 quenching, there is no reverse transformation in this range. From the 34th quenching, the PTPT remained constant around 420ºC and severe changes in your micrographs were detected. Nevertheless, there was no change in Cu/Al able to change the PTPT. Alloys with containing nominal composition 0.4% and 0.2%Be indicated strong influence of the Be in the PTPT. When analyzed by x-ray diffractometry, the sample with 0.2Be indicated the presence of β' and γ' phases, when aged by 530ºC. For quantifying the residual deformations, the samples were subjected to static tensile and loading/unloading tests. When subjected large deformation and temperature near Ms, the results showed a great residual deformation, whereas small deformations with temperatures above Af showed not to be viable. The alloy Cu-11.8Al-4Nb-2.16Ni-0.5Be when tractioned, showed excessive weakness even after treatment of solubilization.

Role of Plasticity in Nitinol Fatigue / Role of Plasticity in Nitinol Fatigue

Shayanfard, Pejman January 2021 (has links)
Simulace metodou konečných prvků poskytují komplementární informace o průběhu napětí, deformací a martensitické transformaci, zejména o vývoji jednotlivých složek celkové deformace, tj. elastické a plastické, a vývoji zbytkového pnutí a s ním souvisejícím zbytkovým martensitem.

Hodnocení vlastností NiTi nástrojů v současné endodoncii / Evaluation of the properties of NiTi instruments in current endodontics

Bumbálek, Michal January 2022 (has links)
Introduction: One of the key prerequisites of high-quality endodontic treatment is the use of endodontic NiTi instruments for the preparation of root canals. The purpose of this dissertation is to evaluate the effect of individual factors which influence the life of endodontic instruments during the clinical treatment of root canals. The dissertation will evaluate the effect the curvature of the canals, the shape of the tip of the instrument, the speed and type of rotation, and the influence of sterilization. The effect of low-temperature plasma nitriding on the fatigue life of the instruments will also be investigated. Materials and methods: Several endodontic systems used for the machine preparation of root canals were studied. The study focused predominantly on the cyclic fatigue of rotary endodontic instruments, wherein the files were rotated in artificial curved root canals. Additionally, the influence of sterilization on the life of the instruments was also examined. Finally, the instruments were treated using thermal plasma nitridation for the purpose of improving their properties. The instruments were then analyzed using a scanning electron microscope and a microhardness meter. Results: Testing cyclic fatigue in artificial root canals with radii R3 and R5 revealed that instruments with a...

Studium funkčních vlastností tenkých vláken NiTi pro aplikace v smart strukturách a textiliích / Investigation of Functional Properties of Thin NiTi Filaments for Applications in Smart Structures and Hybrid Textiles

Pilch, Jan January 2011 (has links)
PhD thesis focuses the field of textile application of modern functional materials, namely metallic shape memory alloys with unique thermomechanical properties deriving from martensitic transformation in solid state. Particularly, it deals with the development of a nonconventional thermomechanical treatment of thin NiTi filaments via Joule heating by electric current and related basic research involving thermomechanical testing and modeling of functional properties of the filaments, investigation of martensitic transformations and deformation processes in NiTi and investigation of the fast recovery and recrystallization processes in metals heated by short pulses of controlled electric power. The method was developed and called FTMT-EC. In contrast to conventional heat treatment of metallic filaments in environmental furnaces, this method allows for precise control of the raise of the filament temperature and filament stress during the fast heating (rate ~50 000 °C/s). As a consequence, it is possible to precisely control the progress of the fast recovery and recrystallization processes in heat treated filaments. In this way it is possible to prepare filaments with desired nanostructured microstructure and related functional properties. A prototype equipment for application of the method for heat treatment of continuous SMA filaments during respooling in textile processing was designed and built. Comparing to the conventional heat treatment of SMA filaments in tubular environmental furnaces, this approach is faster, saves energy and allows for preparation of filaments with special functional properties. International patent application was filed on the method. It is currently utilized in the research and development of smart textiles for medical applications.
