Developing a Reference Framework for Measuring the Supply Chain Capability

Hsuan,Chia-Ying Unknown Date (has links)
Because the business environment has changed (e.g., volatility in demand, curtailment of product life cycle, changing of information technology, and so forth), corporate supply chains become more network-connected and involve more business partners. Whether the company has the capability to operate well in such supply chain network becomes a significant issue. To fulfill this need, this research aims to develop a framework for measuring the supply chain capability. The literature review and company interviews allow us to propose four capabilities and relative measurements. A field survey is then conducted in the Taiwan PC industry to assess the measurements. To ensure the measurements are valid, we apply two-step measurement assessments: the factor analysis and initial reliability are first conducted and then followed by item-total correlation, optimal reliability coefficients, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. The resulting model is an 18-item and three-dimension construct. The three dimensions are: (1) reducing transaction related risk, (2) promoting good relationship, and (3) managing environment change. The confirmatory factor analysis then suggests us to arrange the three dimensions in two groups. The first group includes the first dimension, indicating the firm capability, and the second group includes the other two, expressing the inter-firm capability. We further explore the relationships between the supply chain capabilities and IOS adoption, as well as supply chain roles. It is interestingly to note that different IOS requires different capability and so does different supply chain roles. Therefore, the contribution of this research can be two-folded: first, the managers can use this reference framework to diagnose the supply chain capability of their own firms, finding their strength and weakness. Second, managers can use the framework to evaluate the capability of their partners and better gauge the characteristics of the supply chain collaboration. This research can also contribute to the IT literature as the researchers can build upon this model to further examine of the factors that are discovered.

The impact of IT standardization and IT integration on supply chain management performance

Tsai, Ya-Ting 01 August 2011 (has links)
Supply chain management plays an important role in contemporary enterprises and its operations include materials procurement, manufacturing, logistics, sales and service. Good supply chain management relies on information technologies that facilitate the sharing of process and production-related information. Hence, information technology plays a key role in supply chain management. In order for information sharing to be effective, standardizationand integration are important. The purpose of this study is to examine how standardization and integration of information technologies in a supply chain may affect its performance. Four dimensions of information technology standardization and integration are defined: business process, data, technology infrastructure, and application system. We also include supply chain capability as a mediating variable. This study used questionnaire to collection date, and used SmartPLS and SPSS to analyze data. The results indicate that: (1) IT standardization has significant influences on supply chain capability, but IT integration does not; (2) supply chain capability has significant positive impacts on supply chain performance; and (3) IT standardization and IT integration do not have direct influences on supply chain performance.

The impact of dynamic capability on supply chain capability and customer satisfaction

Chen, Te En Unknown Date (has links)
Dynamic capability is about how firm should adapt and adjust to retain their competitiveness in this constant changing dynamic environment. David J. Teece brought up the concept, and since then, has been the center of attention for scholars all over the world. In this research, we talk about the relationships between dynamic capacities, supply chain capabilities, and customer satisfaction, dynamic capability is further dissected into adaptive capability and coordinate capability. According to past research, dynamic capabilities are characterized as higher-order competencies, and it can impact firm’s performance through enhancing its operational capabilities, or the second-order competencies of the firm. In the past, many discussions were conducted with marketing capability, manufacturing capability, technology capability, etc., as the operational capability, while few link the concept of dynamic capability with supply chain management, we wish to shorten the gap between the two. Our data came from the fourth round of HPM (High Performance Manufacturing) project, with a total of 71 Taiwanese manufacturing companies. We use SmartPLS 3.0 software to run our analysis. Our findings suggest a positive relationship between dynamic capabilities and supply chain capabilities, an increase in either adaptive or coordinate capability will result in enhancing supply chain capability, while an increase in supply chain capability will results higher customer satisfaction. We further discovered that companies with higher dependency on information technology will have a stronger relationship between adaptive capability and supply chain capability.

Mature supply management as an enabler for rapid product development and product portfolio renewal

Verrollot, J. (Jordan) 27 March 2018 (has links)
Abstract Bringing new products faster to the market is increasingly critical. To reach this goal, companies have been improving their product development practices and processes. Rapid product development (RaDe) is a type of incremental product development model, in which new sales items are created by redesigning existing products quickly and inexpensively. This study examines the RaDe challenges and enablers, particularly the ones from the perspective of supply management (SM) and product portfolio management (PPM). The main objective of this study is to recognise and describe the significance of mature SM for RaDe, resulting in successful and efficient product ramp-ups and portfolio renewal. The present study follows a qualitative research approach, which consists of reviewing the literature and analysing the relevant practices and current process settings of several companies representing diverse business areas and industry types. The principal results of this study involve acknowledging and describing the role of mature SM and organised PPM for effective RaDe implementation and product portfolio renewal. The study examines the mature SM from the perspective of 1) the definition of the SM objectives; 2) the alignment of the list of recommended products, buy-items and suppliers; 3) the creation of the product design guidelines, targets and metrics from the SM perspective; and 4) the establishment of the supply capability creation process. The main implications of the present study highlight the importance of the SM maturity that can support managers in RaDe related planning and implementation activities. The originality of the study resides in the emphasis of the SM significance in terms of different aspects that are beneficial to RaDe implementation and product portfolio renewal. / Tiivistelmä Uusien tuotteiden tuominen markkinoille nopeasti on enenevissä määrin tärkeää yrityksille.
