This thesis aims to study and describe the evolution and transformations of female archetypes appearing in the production of symbolist art movement during the time period 1880 1914. It focuses on all used variants of symbols and personifications of womanhood, and it tries to present the complete iconographic overview. The main goal is to learn whether symbolists were using maily symbols of a destructive antiheroine or whether there was a wider spectrum of positive and honorable female icons. There are also examples used from the decadent literature which include those symbolic figures.

This thesis examines the Temptation of Saint Anthony in the last quarter of the 19th century in France and Belgium. By analysis of particular art works it shows the variability of iconography and complexity of the Temptation theme which reflects the contemporary relation to religion, history, science, exotism, eroticism and other areas, which man living in the era of greate changes was confronted with. The importance of "The Temptation of Saint Anthony" by Gustave Flaubert is emphasized as an inspirational source for fine arts and on the general level the relation of text and visual presentation is discussed. The final part of the thesis dealing with "fin de siècle" art references the metamorphosis of the Temptation of st. Anthony in literature and fine arts as well as historical, social and religious relations in the context of which the character of Saint Anthony gradually became a permanent part of French culture.

The theses Maxmilian Pirner - The conception of allegory and symbol in the work of one artist on the end of 19th century discusses the work of Maxmilian Pirner and his attitudes to allegory and symbol. Becouse at the end of 19th century was the allegorical system in crisis, Pirner reflected it by its' modernization. The modernisation of system in his own conception consisted in gradual rejection of traditional allegory and admission of symbol. The these is trying to answer the question how this process came through and why it was unique. The main focus of the theses is to describe Pirners'role in the process of development in art since neoromantism to symbolism at the turn of 19th and 20th century.

ТITLE The Concept of Childhood in Fyodor Sologub's prose ABSTRACT: This Master thesis deals with the topic of childhood in prose works of the Russian writer, novelist and teacher Fyodor Sologub. The research presents his biography, traces the development of his personality, as well as his perception of the world and interests. It focuses on the events, which determined the extent and significance of the chosen topic for Sologub. There are also revealed lesser known facts of his childhood that influenced his choice of the topics and its embodiment in his literary works. The writer's biography is complemented by the views of critics and contemporaries who studied his works and shaped public opinion. The main topics of the analysis are: dualistic vision of the world, children's death, faith in God, children's patriotism. The ideal world of children is presented in the novel The Created Legend. The thesis also reveals the popularity of the topic of childhood in other 19th and 20th century writers' oeuvre in comparative analysis with Sologub's work. It also depicts the importance of two literary movements - symbolism and decadence, their representative Sologub was. The questions raised by Sologub remain relevant to the present day. (in English) Initially, this master's degree thesis exposes the professional life and the evolution as author of Laura Restrepo, pointing out her work and direction in literature. Then, an introduction to the studied novel, Delirio, is presented and its style, the formal and narrative techniques and the synopsis is developed. Second part of the thesis analyses key elements of the novel that are thematically linked with madness (the room, childhood, seeing beyond, sexuality, lying, water, delirium and green color). The symbology of these elements is analyzed, which is later applied, in the last part of the thesis, to deepen the possible symbology of some concrete scenes of the novel, in which the protagonist decides to paint the walls of her apartment in green.
