Power Effect Control for IEEE 802.15.4 Based Wireless Devices

Holmstedt, Elise January 2012 (has links)
The goal of this project was to develop a method that can control the power level of IEEE 802.15.4-based wireless devices by analyzing the incoming signal and steering the strength of the transmitted signal in a way that diminishes the power requirements while keeping an adequate signal. Local wireless networks connecting simple devices e.g. sensors or power switches, use the standard IEEE 802.15.4 and within it comes a number of built in methods for analyzing the quality of a signal. By studying their behaviour it is determined that the link quality indicator is best suited for these circumstances. Its statistical behaviour is studied for a range of power- levels to create a foundation for the simulations and to map the expected target areas. A model is constructed in Matlab and a method for power-steering is built. The method analyzes the statistical parameters of the last 16 messages of the incoming signal. Based on where these are in relation to the map created earlier a message is included to the other device about whether to increase or decrease the signal strength. To create more stability as soon as the signal is within the target area the number of sampled messages is increased to 160. This method is implemented on the IEEE 802.15.4-based wireless devices and the stability is observed. To explore the method further four different target areas are implemented for different requirements of the network and experiments are made with each.

Informationssystem i professionsorienterat arbete

Svensson, Ann January 2009 (has links)
This thesis investigates the challenges within the work of different types of professions; technical professions and human caretaking professions. These professions are faced special challenges in use and development of information systems. Professions within two different complex and critical work practices are focused; aircraft maintenance and emergency medical care. Within the work of these professions some judgements and decisions can imply risks for life and equipment. The use and development of information systems in general is emphasised, decision support systems and other systems for specific tasks have not been studied. The research question in this thesis is: Which challenges can be related to use and development of information systems within complex and critical work practices, from a profession-oriented perspective? Two ethnographical studies have been performed within two different work practices. The studies have been rather explorative and inductive. One study has been performed within the aircraft maintenance in the Swedish Airforce and the other study has been performed within the emergency medical care within NU Healthcare, Västra Götaland, Sweden. From the thesis it has been derived three main challenges for professions within complex and critical work practices; trust, knowledge integration and professional barriers. The main contribution in the thesis is about certain aspects, which can have an impact on a profession-oriented view on use and development of information systems. These aspects concern bridging professional barriers and managing knowledge integration. Furthermore the thesis reflects that a hard systems thinking on use and development of information systems is prevalent within the human caretaking professions, while a soft systems thinking is obvious within the technical professions.

Automotive Sensor Fusion for Situation Awareness

Lundquist, Christian January 2009 (has links)
The use of radar and camera for situation awareness is gaining popularity in automotivesafety applications. In this thesis situation awareness consists of accurate estimates of theego vehicle’s motion, the position of the other vehicles and the road geometry. By fusinginformation from different types of sensors, such as radar, camera and inertial sensor, theaccuracy and robustness of those estimates can be increased. Sensor fusion is the process of using information from several different sensors tocompute an estimate of the state of a dynamic system, that in some sense is better thanit would be if the sensors were used individually. Furthermore, the resulting estimate isin some cases only obtainable through the use of data from different types of sensors. Asystematic approach to handle sensor fusion problems is provided by model based stateestimation theory. The systems discussed in this thesis are primarily dynamic and they aremodeled using state space models. A measurement model is used to describe the relationbetween the state variables and the measurements from the different sensors. Within thestate estimation framework a process model is used to describe how the state variablespropagate in time. These two models are of major importance for the resulting stateestimate and are therefore given much attention in this thesis. One example of a processmodel is the single track vehicle model, which is used to model the ego vehicle’s motion. In this thesis it is shown how the estimate of the road geometry obtained directly from thecamera information can be improved by fusing it with the estimates of the other vehicles’positions on the road and the estimate of the radius of the ego vehicle’s currently drivenpath. The positions of stationary objects, such as guardrails, lampposts and delineators aremeasured by the radar. These measurements can be used to estimate the border of theroad. Three conceptually different methods to represent and derive the road borders arepresented in this thesis. Occupancy grid mapping discretizes the map surrounding theego vehicle and the probability of occupancy is estimated for each grid cell. The secondmethod applies a constrained quadratic program in order to estimate the road borders, which are represented by two polynomials. The third method associates the radar measurementsto extended stationary objects and tracks them as extended targets. The approaches presented in this thesis have all been evaluated on real data from bothfreeways and rural roads in Sweden. / IVSS - SEFS

Molnet och dess möjligheter och  utmaningar : En kvalitativ studie i hur molnet förändrar systemutvecklingsarbetet

Älmeblad, Jonas January 2011 (has links)
As companies grow, their need for computing power will increase, which traditionally resulted in companies having to invest in more IT resources. Now, with cloud computing, companies can easily hire computer power over the Internet, on-demand. Cloud computing offers a highly scalable environment where companies can store data and host their services. This paper employs a qualitative study with interviews and literature studies to explore opportunities and challenges associated with cloud computing from a system developer perspective. The aim of the paper is to find out how cloud computing changes the conditions for system development. The paper contributes with four different opportunities and challenges that the system developer must handle to succeed in the world of cloud computing. A conclusion is that it is not the work of system development that changes; instead it is the role of the system developer that evolves.

TV- produktion i ett förändrat mediesamhälle : En fallstudie på Go’kväll på SVT

Nilsson, Manda January 2011 (has links)
The media society of today is changing. Because of a media convergence, traditional media distributers like television, radio and newspapers have to rethink their place and their purpose in the world. This paper brings a new angle to this area of research, conveying how creativity, workflow and media convergence is related to each other. A deeper understanding of these relationships gives us a clue about how media convergence can change the practice of TV- production. In this paper, a case study at Go’kväll in SVT is presented. Through interviews, observations and literature studies, some conclusions have been made. It is shown that Go’kväll has a very pre-determined workflow. Although, in between their routines and their pre-determined ways of doing things, they have some room for creativity. This is a workflow that works very well for them; their format of TV- programme doesn’t need more creativity than that. The media convergence instead brings something new to the table, something that makes their workflow creative in a new way.

Critical Success Factors in ERP Implementation

Fang, Li, Patrecia, Sylvia January 2005 (has links)
ERP systems link together an organization’s strategy, structure, and business processes with the IT system. The different way of handling the process of ERP implementation brings about many success and failure stories. By doing research on 1) what are the critical success factors in the implementation of ERP 2) why are these factors critical 3) what is the criticality degree of each factor 4) how important are these factors for customers, consultants, and vendors, the report aims to to identify the critical success factors in ERP implementation and understand the criticality degree of each factor from the perspectives of three parties (companies, consultants & vendors). The research is proceeded with combined methods of qualitative and quantitative. The qualitative method for the interviews was chosen in order to get the information in depth. A semi-structured interview helps to provide some basic questions as guideline. Furthermore, the quantitative approach contributes to manipulating the data for a more comprehensive analysis of empirical findings. This report states 11 CSFs (Critical Success Factors) from three points of view: strategic, tactical, and cultural. They are: Top management support and ERP strategy, Business Process Reengineering, Project team & change management, Retain the experienced employee, Consultant and vendor support, Monitoring and evaluation of performance, Problems anticipation (troubleshooting, bugs, etc.), Organizational culture, Effective communication, and Cultural diversity. By testing the perceived CSFs in six respondents (VSM Group, Scania, Sogeti, SYSteam, Oracle, and SAP), this report puts the 11 factors into three overall ranks (most critical, medium critical, and less critical), gains 3 other new critical factors (testing, business model, and client’s resources), and clarifies the diverse opinions about CSFs from customers/companies, consultants, and vendors. The most critical factors are Top management support, BPR, Project team & change management, and Effective communication. The medium critical factors go to ERP strategy, Consultant and vendor support, and Organizational culture. And the remaining 4 factors belong to less critical category. For the differences, their agreement comes into the 4 most critical factors. In monitoring and evaluation of performance they agree on its less criticality. All customers, consultants and vendors have quite different opinions about the remaining 6 factors. Reviewing the research questions, this report has fulfilled the main objectives and purpose. With better understanding of the comprehensive identification of CSFs and criticality rank of each factor, management will be able to judge and allocate essential resources that are required to bring ERP implementation into success.

Om informationslogistik är svaret. Vad är frågan? / If information logistic is the answer. What is the question?

Alfengård, Kristina January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to identify information logistical problems and needs in work of change. This within the following work of change areas, strategy, organization and IT. And thereby show what kind of problem and needs information logistics can solve. The reason of choosing these work of change areas is because that information logistics is a multidisciplinary subject. That include informatics, logistics and economy/management. The research within information logistics show how IT can be used for a user – demand information supply. In summary the research area expresses how information can be stored in data warehouse and can be processed with business intelligence. The underlying approach of how different IT solutions can give the right information to the right person at the right time is logistics. The research area show different perspectives of information logistic and what the word refer to. The question is of there is any relevance and use for organizations to handle information logistic. The method of this study is based on Grounded Theory. Whose purpose is to let the collected empirics navigate the studies theoretical framework of references. Which in the context are most suitable. The approach of this study is hermeneutic with a qualitative method. The empirical groundwork has been collected through telephone interviews with special advisers such as consultants. Within scope of consulting services as strategy, organization and IT.  Through the analysis it has been identified that it within a work of change exist three types of information flows. Structured information flow. Restructured information flow. Unstructured information flow. Besides above information flow it has also been identified situations where the information is dynamic respective stable. The analysis has therefore made a difference between the flow of information and the information as such. The following terms will show problems that are regarded as information logistics Develop business plan. The information is seperated from the users demand. Cannot reach out with the information that is on paper. Management wants information in one way and the co-worker on another. Consultants take over information management. Organization of process and people The information is kept separated and affect process execution.
