Blahanravau, Yauheni January 2009 (has links)
This thesis is dealing with the problematic of relationship between information technology and business, IT and business alignment and the role of CIO in these processes. The further topic I describe in my thesis is the evaluating of the investing projects into information technologies. In connection with this I analyze various financial methods for evaluating of investments in information technologies. The mail goals of this work are: analyze and create a detailed description of modern trends in information technology management and in business and IT alignment, another goal is make comparison of the financial methods and frameworks that help to measure the efficiency of investments in IT and show how these methods can be applied. The further goal is analyze in details the real potential of improvement method and create new set of tools (spreadsheets) for the complex support of this method and show how it can be applied in practice. In the theoretical part of my thesis I focused on the analysis of the role of information technology and CIO in modern organizations and on ways of effective communication of added value to top management of the organization. Analysis is based on the literature review and aimed on searching of skills and knowledge that the modern and successful CIO must have. In this relation were made the analysis of popular financial methods, their comparison and examples how to apply it. Practical part of this work was aimed on the detailed analysis of the real potential of improvement method and how to use it in practice. In this chapter I described the basic principles of this method and created a set of MS Excel tools for better efficiency while using the method of the real potential of improvement. After creation of the tools the practical application of it was shown as an example of improvement of one business process in organization.

Designing, developing and evaluating a management information system for vitamin a supplementation programme managers in the Eastern Cape through action research

Wagner-Meyer, Rolene M. January 2003 (has links)
Magister Public Health - MPH / Periodic high doses of vitamin A supplementation has been demonstrated to have a dramatic impact on vitamin A status and general health of children, significantly improving child survival. The Eastern Cape Department of Health has therefore adopted a provincial policy on vitamin A supplementation to improve the high child mortality and vitamin A deficiency rates experienced in the province. This study outlines a participatory approach to designing, developing and evaluating the implementation of a management information system (MIS) that will support district level Maternal, Women and Child Health programme managers in problem identification, planning and decision-making when implementing the Eastern Cape policy on vitamin A supplementation. It is an iterative process that: • Begins with a situational analysis • Uses this situational analysis for the conceptualisation of the MIS • Develops this MIS as a part of the vitamin A supplementation programme, embedding the MIS in the management structure and operational systems and • Evaluates the implementation of this MIS The study introduces the concept of trace tables, an integral part of the MIS. It is a unique tool that the researcher has developed to assist programme managers to monitor the implementation of the various elements of a primary health care programme like vitamin A supplementation. The researcher discusses the key findings of the study, the participatory nature of this action research, and elements unique to this study in terms of the vitamin A supplementation programme, the development of a MIS, an action research approach and the context within which the development of the MIS occurred. The study is concluded with key lessons to be learnt from this research and the postulation of a model on a participatory approach to the development of a MIS for Primary Health Care programmes.

Metody ukládání uživatelských hesel v operačních systémech / Password deposition techniques in operating systems

Pavlík, Martin January 2009 (has links)
This master thesis deals with ways to store passwords in current operating systems. Specifically, this work focuses on Windows, Linux, BSD and OS X. These systems are examined for ways of hashing passwords and on resistance of resulting hashes against various attacks. First (theoretical) section describes the procedures and algorithms that are needed for user authentication. This part also describes methods of hash storing. At the end of the theoretical part are generally described some possible attacks against hash functions. In second (practical) part is described and tested tools for obtaining hashes of the investigated operating systems. Subsequently practical attacks were conducted against obtained hashes by using appropriate tools. Furthermore there are presented results of the attacks. In the conclusion of the work there is a comparison of tools and methods which were used to obtain plaintext passwords from operating systems.

Performance evaluation of urban rail traffic management techniques / Évaluation de performances pour les techniques de régulation du trafic ferroviaire urbain

Kecir, Abd-El-Karim 05 July 2019 (has links)
Urban rail traffic is subject to numerous disrupting events that drift it from its nominal behavior. In order to minimize the impact of these disturbances, rail operators rely on a set of techniques. Despite their efficiency, performances of theses techniques are rarely well studied, nor are they of proven optimality; a direct consequence of them being empirically built. It is in this particular context that comes our work to provide solutions that allow for the evaluation of such techniques and for the comparison of their relative performances in various scenarios. The proposed approach is based on variants of Petri nets as models, and on the Monte-Carlo method for the simulation of their execution. This combination has led to the development of SIMSTORS, a tool for the simulation of urban rail systems, and more generally, stochastic systems under dynamic rescheduling. Additionally, this thesis addresses the question of timetable realizability; that is whether or not a given timetable is indeed realizable by a system for which it was built. Indeed, a timetable is meant to drive the behavior of a system but there is no guarantee as to its realizability. We therefore propose a method for the verification of the realizability of timetables with a strictly positive probability.
