Putrenko, Alex, Oppor, Philip January 2019 (has links)
This study explores the relationship between the use of framing within crowdfundingcampaigns of technology startup companies and the funding outcomes of these campaigns. We examine how the presence of cognitive framing categories of opportunity, threat, noveltyand commonality within crowdfunding pitches of technology startups affect the chance ofsuccessfully receiving funding. In order to examine the effect of framing on the funding outcomes of crowdfundingcampaigns, a qualitative, explorative research approach is employed. With the use of anexisting framing framework, we identify, categorize and analyze the content of crowdfundingcampaigns. The data sample we analyze is comprised of publicly available technologycompany crowdfunding campaigns collected from Kickstarter, a crowdfunding platform. The results suggest that the presence of novelty and opportunity framing withincrowdfunding campaigns is most closely associated with successful funding. We alsodiscover that several other campaign components, both prose and non-prose, which did notconform into the framing cognitive categories outlined, may also be important for thesuccessful funding of campaigns.

This thesis focuses on the implementation of Industry 4.0 in medical technical industry (med tech). The aim of the thesis is to get a sufficient evaluation on the Industry 4.0 implementation in a German medical technology enterprise, and also to find suggestions for improving the implementation. Two main research questions are studied in this thesis: “What is the maturity level of Industry 4.0 in a German med tech enterprise with comparison to automotive enterprises?” and “How to overcome barriers and improve the Industry 4.0 level in the med tech enterprise?” The thesis uses qualitative analysis with case study as the main research method. Automotive industry is used as reference and supporting the comparative case study. A historical review and a survey with open and closed questions are used for the data collection and analysis. Compared with automotive enterprises, the med tech enterprise is limited in the aspect of smart factory/production with Industry 4.0 implementation by various special regulations, but nevertheless there is much space and potential to develop Industry 4.0 in other aspects like smart business, smart product, and smart customers, as well as some new business modes.

Internationalisation des PME technologiques issues des économies émergentes : une analyse basée sur les opportunités d’affaires / Internationalization of technological SME from emerging economies : an analysis based on business opportunities

Mejri, Issam 09 November 2017 (has links)
The last two decades have been marked by the rise of emerging economies and the emergence of start-ups and Hi-Tech SMEs with high international growth. This trend has spawned a new area of research, international entrepreneurship in emerging economies. The purpose of this qualitative research is to study the factors that influence the process of identifying international opportunities in technological SMEs from an emerging economy, Tunisia. To this end, we are studying the process of internationalization of seven Tunisian technological SMEs in the information and communications technology sector. The results of the intra- and inter-case analysis identify entrepreneurial personality traits, international entrepreneurial capabilities and relational networks as the three main categories of factors that influence the identification of international opportunities. Our research results in the formulation and discussion of eight proposals that make it possible to schematize an explanatory model of the internationalization of technological SMEs emerging from emerging economies.

Impact of Government R&D Subsidies on Innovation Efficiency of China’s High-tech Industries

Li, Jiazhong January 2020 (has links)
Innovation efficiency is a key factor influencing the position of high-tech industries in the global value chain. Through stochastic frontier analysis, innovation efficiency of China's high-tech industry from 2000 to 2016 was estimated and analyzed. Through five random frontier analysis models, innovation efficiency of new product sales revenue and number of patent applications are analyzed. Results show that the overall level of innovation efficiency in China's high-tech industry is not high. Government subsidies for innovation have a positive impact on the R&D results of new product income from China’s high-tech industry, but have a negative impact on the number of patent applications. Scale of enterprise, degree of openness of enterprise, quality of the labor force and export delivery have a positive impact on innovation efficiency of China's high-tech industry. R&D capital stock and R&D human capital stock have a positive effect on high-tech industry innovation. In high-tech industry's transition from patents to new products, there will be a low conversion rate. Results of economic analysis can help the government to make the basis for management decisions. Conclusion of innovation performance analysis provides practical normative guidance for these high-tech industries.

Behind the Screens: Understanding the Social Structures of the Video Game Industry

LaLonde, Michelle 01 May 2020 (has links)
This study focuses on video game developers and their working environments in a growth industry. While some research documents the culture of video games and the people who play them, much less is understood about the labor environment for those who make games. I conducted 20 personal interviews with game developers in order to learn more about what inspired them to select this field, how they gained entry to it, and what their work is like today. Using insights from the interviews, I analyze how workers contend with its male-dominated culture and how creative skilled laborers deal with the challenges of corporate control and precarious work in the new economy.
