Deník Prostor jako fenomén české fotožurnalistiky / Prostor daily as a phenomenon of Czech photojournalism

Kubicová, Markéta January 2017 (has links)
The thesis Prostor daily as a phenomenon of Czech photojournalism focuses on the analysis of the journalistic photographs in two dailies established after 1989 - Prostor daily and Metropolitan/Metropolitní telegraf daily. The analytical part of the thesis consists of the quantitative content analysis and the qualitative analysis of the pictures; the thesis also contains interviews with seven former members of the photographic department of Prostor daily - Radovan Boček, Karel Cudlín, Jaromír Čejka, Jan Jindra, Zdeněk Lhoták, Roman Sejkot and Tomáš Štanzel. The aim of the thesis is to define the differences between Prostor daily and the other dailies at that time, why it was 'visually extraordinary' and why it became a phenomenon of Czech photojournalism.

An American Slave Hunt : Attitudes in Sweden and in Östgöta Correspondenten Concerning the American Civil War

Liedberg, Gustav January 2011 (has links)
The news reports from the American Civil War 1861-65 were observed with interest and excitement of the contemporary reading public in the countries of Europe. Therefore there were prevailing attitudes also in Sweden and this has been studied by several historical researchers. The aim of this study was to examine the news reports of the newspaper Östgöta Correspondenten about the American Civil War, and to compare the appearing attitudes with other Swedish attitudes and the general liberal opinion on the conflict. Since I intended to interpret attitudes in the newspaper’s news coverage of the conflict, I examined the source material with the help of text analysis. With this qualitative approach, I have reached an awareness of how the newspaper looked upon the conflict. For the analysis to be meaningful, it has been put into relationship with a theoretical context, so that the significance of my results can be examined. Through analysis of the newspaper’s source material, I have been able to show that the newspaper had a liberal attitude to the American Civil War, focusing on the freedom aspect of slavery. The newspaper reported criticism that the issue of slavery was neglected for the American Union’s dissolution, but supported on the whole Lincoln and the Union’s objectives. Previous research shows that the newspaper fitted into the Swedish public opinion about the American Civil War, which was generally of the liberal nature.

Poštovní systém v Koreji v letech 1884-1905 / Postal system in Korea between 1884 and 1905

Kocinová, Kateřina January 2019 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the topic of modernization of communication means in Korea during the late 19th century, namely with the intruduction, organizational structure and development process of the West-inspired postal system in 1884-1905. It further examines the extent of actual utility, accessibility and importance of postal services from the perspective of the then Korean society and government. This work is divided into two parts. The first one covers approximately the first half of 1880's, exploring the situation regarding the very brief existence of the first Korean post office, Ujŏngch'ongguk. This part also briefly deals with the alternative medium of modern communication, telegraph. It was, however, not until more than 10 years after the abolishment of the first post office that Korean postal services were resumed. In the second part of the thesis I inquire into the postal system's development throughout the period of so-called kabo reforms (1894-96) and the Korean Empire (1897-1905).
