Occasionally, there is also a requirement to provide an alternative to radar tracking at those locations where it exists. TRADAT VI satisfies both requirements by providing vehicle positional from telemetry. In addition, it also provides real-time trajectory plots by its graphical display.

An Approach for Standardization of Datalink Systems

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 25-28, 1993 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / The paper explores the concept of standardization of datalink systems and makes a call for industry involvement in the process of defining an approach to standardization. The objectives are to reduce the Department of Defense (DoD) cost of Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) operations, to improve interoperability, to have the flexibility to meet unique user needs, to have compatibility with existing systems and standards, and to have the ability to evolve to a next generation of datalink systems. The paper describes several current DoD Central Test and Evaluation Investment Program (CTEIP) projects and shows how dependent and interdependent they are on datalink systems. A new Joint Service CTEIP project, Standard Interoperable Datalink System (SIDS), will become the facilitator in the process of defining a standard datalink, including weapon system/platform telemetry, time-space-position information, target command and control, voice communications, time correlation data, and possibly video.

The system consists of receiving antenna, wideband feed, antenna pedestal, telemetry/tracking receiver antenna controller and computer console. Its characteristics are as follow: Single Channel Single Pulse Tracking Feed, 2. 5m Antenna Diameter, 500MHz BW, LHCP and RHCP Dual - Channel Polarization Diversity Receiving. The servo system uses rate - gyros as stabilized element being based on the micro - processor to realize the digital servo control. Computer console performs the status monitoring and management to the whole system. The system design, the main system specification and important test results are given.

Monopatch Antenna for Balloon Telemetry Applications

In the past, simple monopoles have been utilized as transmit antennas on balloon payloads. The monopole radiation pattern has an inherent null along its axis. This causes an undesirable loss of signal when the balloon is directly overhead. To prevent this occurrence, a microstrip antenna patch was incorporated into the monopole design. This combination, a "monopatch" antenna, provides sufficient coverage even when the balloon is directly over the ground station. The monopatch has been successfully flown on high altitude balloon flights.

Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. / Current underwater acoustic communication systems operate in the frequency band of 1 - 10 kHz and utilize various forms of signal processing to improve data rates. In this work, the influence of the environment on long-range propagation of acoustic signals will be examined over the band of 1-5 kHz. The transmission loss (Th) as a function of range over the bandwidth will be one measure to determine the optimal operating character of the communications channel. Additionally, estimates of signal variance over the bandwidth as a function of range will be computed. The variance will be generated from source platform motion and interface roughness. Particular attention will be paid to the 2 - 4 kHz band of certain operating systems for long-range transmission / Lieutenant, United States Navy

This </p><p>means that the cargo itself and not the vehicle transporting the cargo will be observed. </p><p>This has the advantage that a change in the transportation method can be made without </p><p>interrupting the tracking device. T4 System is not only a simple tracking device which only </p><p>monitors the transportation conditions; it also interacts with the chain of transportation </p><p>in case of a faulty situation, to provide the possibility to correct the error. </p><p>To keep the transportation process as transparent as possible T4 System uses a two way </p><p>communication and control strategy which allows, e.g. the customer, to check and/or </p><p>update the transport conditions or measurement parameters, respectively, in run-time, </p><p>when the situation demands it.</p>

Minimizing Interference in Simultaneous Operations between GPS and Other Instrumentation Systems

Currently many airborne platforms (missiles, targets, and projectiles) contain multiple instrumentation systems to cover the functions of GPS and either telemetry, beacon tracking and/or flight termination. Most of these platforms are not very large, so mounting of various antennas to support these functions are physically close to each other. As a result, unwanted interference (in the form of RF coupling between them) is unavoidable. This paper will discuss the design considerations involved to minimize this interference as well as some lessons learned with its implementation.
